My name is Lynda, and I live in Mays Landing N.J.
I am joining Spark People, and I'm happy to be here! I have a long history of working out, and body building in my younger days, but about 4 yrs ago I went through some drastic changes, that not only affected me emotionally, but alo physically. I have never had an issue with weight control except for when I was pregnant many moons ago, and even with that I was my
pre preggers size within a year! I have always taken care of myself, and still do! What happened to change things is that I was robbed at gunpoint! About 3 weeks after that I woke up one morning and I was shaking so bad I couldn't hold a spoon to stir my coffee. A few days later i started to get heart palpitations. I spoke to my therapist and he suggested I start seeing a psychiatrist because he believed my nerves were interfering with his treatments, and I needed medication.

I went to the Psychiatrist and he suggested I get some lab work done to make sure I was ok for meds! I went and my next visit the results showed I had Hyperthyroid/Graves disease. I
Had no idea what this was, and he recommended a visit to an Endo who concurred with him.
I was put on medication, methimazole for thyroid, propanolol for the palpitations and high BP, cellexa, for anxiety, and klonopin for concentration and focus. At that time I weighed 106lbs, but within 6 mos I weighed 115lbs. Still not bad, I started working out again because I began to feel better except for my balance. I went back to strength training, and eating. The problem was the pills tasted horrible like metal and I had that taste in my mouth 24/7 When I ate is wennt away for about 15 min. I was never much of a breakfast eater so I figured I needed to do that to lose weight. I found out a couple of the pills I was taking were causing the weight gain, and now I was getting depressed. I started to fall asleep at the dinner table before dinner was over, told my Dr. and he put me on Amphetamines to keep me awake. They worked and I also lost the 10lbs I gained, but after a while yhey stopped helping with the weight loss, and since they are government controled no way was I going to increase the dose and become addicted! I was told by the Endo that your thyroid controls everything in your body including your metabolism, so this is what I have been up against the whole time!

The robbery happened 4 years ago, I gained 15lbs but the funny thing is I still wear a size 6, an 8 is way to big! I have bulked up, am told I look good, but I can't stand the excess weight, and I can't stand to see a muffin top on me! I'm hoping to get some tips here, I am 59 yrs old and will be 60 the end of this month, however I do not look my age! In my mind I'm still a Rock Star!!! LOL I have a son 38 yrs old, who is married and has two children, my grandson Colton going on 3 and my Granddaughter Carolina who will be a year old next month. I guess what I am saying about me weight sounds petty to you, but keep in mind that I have had a disease called Body Dismorphic Image since I was a child. This may not seem like anything to you, but to me it's an obsession! That's why I joined! My work is cut out for me because of my thyroid disorder and I can handle 130 lbs but I don't want ot to increase! I also quit smoking 4 months ago, but gained the weight before then. I'm only looking to lose 15lbs naturally! I look forward to this journey with you, and I know we can buddy up for each other!
