Hi Ruth, welcome to the team. I thought we needed such a team since the popularity is soaring. I was just at the book store and saw her books right away after barely being there 5 minutes!

Any suggestions much welcomed. I hope the team grows this spring as people start to want to Spring clean.

I haven't gotten to my clothes but I have 2 bins I got from a dollar store that I want to use for socks and underwear. They are perfect. I am still working on doing this method. Being busy, it has been hard. I still have a lot to do and books is my biggest struggle.

I am glad your husband got into it too. I wish my kids showed an interest in it. They are kids though only 13 and almost 11.

I was so excited to see this team! I had read about The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up while I was still working, but didn't actually read the book myself until after I retired.

Let me preface my comments by saying that my mother is a hoarder, and I do NOT want to become one myself. Clutter and an over-abundance of things makes me feel overwhelmed and kind of depressed. Through a couple of moves, I had gotten rid of a lot of stuff, but still had too much. Somehow without being consciously aware of it, stuff seems to multiply and accumulate.

So after I retired, I got the book from the library and got to tidying up. To my complete surprise and with no urging from me, my pack rat husband decided he would go through his things as well. This was about a year or so ago. After my sister told me about the show on Netflix, I binge watched it and had another go at a couple categories of things, where I realized I'd kept too much when I did the initial go-round.

The major difference for me, in her method as opposed to other de-cluttering methods -- you are not looking for things to get rid of, you are focusing on what you want to keep. This has helped me tremendously. So much de-cluttering advice is along the lines of "get rid of one thing a day" or the like.

Honestly, this is going to sound kinda stupid, but the first thing I tidied up was my socks. And to this day, I still get a kick out of opening my sock drawer.

Hi Erika, welcome to the team! For me, it is 10 lbs I keep gaining and losing and gaining and losing over and over over the years on SparkPeople because I give up the program for half a year and gain it and then have to start all over! I realize now that is kind of silly.

I hope you find Marie Kondo as inspirational as I did. She apparently scares some people though from what I am hearing! LOL....she is so far from scary to me. Everyone has their opinion though so I respect she scares some people.

Congratulations on the marriage and the new house! I hope your move goes smoothly and maybe Marie can help you with clutter.

Good morning!
My name is Erika. I have used SparkPeople on and off for the past 10 years or so. I have lost 60+ pounds twice but have given up before I made it to my goal. I ran across your post on the public news feed and I definitely need some organization in my life. I have never heard of Marie Kondo, but I will be looking her up on my Netflix as soon as I get home! Like most, I run myself ragged and feel like I have to much clutter in all areas of my life. 16 months ago I married my best friend and between the two of us we have five kids. In about 6 weeks we will be moving into a house three times larger than our current home which should help the clutter immensely. I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday, and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone in this group.

Hi Val,

Thank you for posting. I know what you mean about mess. I feel the same way right now and have a headache and feel tired lately. I am stressed out about some upcoming snow and my kids and seeing them. I'm supposed to see them Thursday nights and I can't tell how the weather is going to be. I mean I get them on Friday night for the whole weekend anyway.

I have yet to clean and tidy a large portion of my life. It has made me feel better so hopefully I won't get discouraged either. Have you seen the TV show? If you don't get Netflix it might be on Youtube. I know there are things on there.

Thank you!
Sarah

Good morning y’all...
I have to admit that I bought MK’s book a few years ago, but I was unsuccessful in any true implementation of her methods.
I know I DO feel tremendously better after completing even minor decluttering projects (it’s been several months since I tidied up just one segment of our big bookshelves, but since it's the part I LOOK AT every morning as I drink my coffee, I can tell it helps my mood)
I read your appeal on our depression group, Sarah. I know I have a bad tendency to get bogged down in my profusion of “Things To Do” & as a result wallow around doing NOTHING!
Hopefully accountability in this group will help my motivation. Right now it feels like my home & my life are a MESS - I’m constantly pulled in at least 4 different directions between my farm, my son, my parents, & my clinic!

Best wishes,
Val

Hi welcome to my new team I just created regarding Marie Kondo. There was no team like it and I felt the need for it. I love her. The picture I had to use is my dresser that I had organized the best I could after hearing about her. You can not use any copyrighted works so I could not post a picture of Marie Kondo which was disappointing.

Any suggestions or anyone else who would like to be an admin just let me know. I have never run a team before. I just decided it was lacking and filled in the gap.

I will post on my blog and in other groups. I hope I get some new members today!

I have read the one book, the first one, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up but I have not read her second book yet. It has been too popular at my local libraries and everyone has all 11 copies out plus holds on it for those wanting it!

I stayed the night at a friend's house last week and she also was totally into Marie and the KonMari Method. It is so exciting to see.

I have depression and I have felt an improvement since trying to adjust my environment in this way.

I have been on Spark People for 10 years or so or almost! I have lost 20 pounds and hope to lose more. Well for more about me, you can check my page. I have 2 daughters, Michelle who is 13 and Megan who is almost 11 on April 2nd she will be.

Please introduce yourself in this topic! I hope this is a successful team. Feel free to contact me in any way!
