1350 calories max per day; clean eating; low refined carbs; one "free" meal per week (Saturday night)

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
Will be doing a road trip to visit family this summer and want to get compliments on my weight loss. :)

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
I was on one last summer(?). I really liked the team support but got suspended for not posting on time two weeks in a row. (I think I got confused about posting Friday vs. Saturday.) I was bummed about that but decided to give it another try this year as I did find the group support helpful. I'll be sure to follow the rules better this time.

2 random fun facts about you?
I'm an American now living and working in Canada. My adult kids are back in Washington State.

Anything else you would like to share?
Acknowledging non-scale victories is helpful for me as my fluctuating hormones also means a fluctuating scale a lot of the time. I often take 2 steps forward and one step back on the scale. I also need to not let one instance of overeating make me give up on the whole thing.

Knit, crossstitch, gardening. Not fun, fun but things I can do and enjoy

What diet are you following?
1950s meat and two veg. (87 yr old mum) does most of the cooking because she still can.

What is your favorite exercise?
Couch potato, but I do walk a fair bit

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
I have a gift of afternoon for two for a posh hotel and a posh frock I havent worn since my nephews wedding because it wont fit round me the size I am and Ive earmarked it for the event. I do have till March 2019 to fit back Into the dress but sooner say September October should be doable.

Ive been on several but dropped out this year to get myself sorted out. Lots of personal issues that didnt need the extra stress of food watch too

2 random fun facts about you?
Folk admire my smiling face. (They should see the one that sometimes wants to be out there)
If I set my mind to something I CAN do it. Maybe I should try making it work for the clothes size issue. I DO want to be a British size 12 again

Anything else you would like to share?
I need help to motivate myself past the first week of portioned eating and a kick up the rear to get up every morning and fit in the exercise before other folks needs kick into my day

What do you like to do for fun?
There are 3 stores where I live that sell $5.00 movies, we buy and watch them at home. I also walk a lot and take many free MOOC courses online through university's. I also do surveys online.

What diet are you following? 50% carbs., 30% protein, 20% fat for the next 12 months to help rebuild hip bones that were removed and put in my mouth, as well as bones from both sinuses and 3 mouth operations.
Total 6 operations in 2.5 hours. June 1 operations. Recently on liquid diet and have food intolerances, also need a high Iron diet. So I use "EAT THIS MUCH" for accurate numbers at $60.00 for 12 months. It forwards to my local discount grocery store for delivery as i am on a walker for 3 months. I must walk daily to improve hip

My favorite exercise?
Always has been walking.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season?
Yes 6 operations on June 1 with a 3-4 month recovery, So a long process.

I did and lost weight on them.

I love to take long walks
I like to sing in public and have,last time 8 years ago with "Elton John" in Las Vegas on stage. I was in my own band when younger, he and other people remember me, I never met him before.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

What do you like to do for fun? craft - I work with paper, mostly rubberstamping, but I also like to make Christmas ornaments and also make some beaded crosses, I also like to play games on my phone/computer or with others, I love to bake and decorate cakes.

What diet are you following? none really, still trying to figure out what works, I am trying to be 100% gluten free though

What is your favorite exercise? kickboxing, zumba, dancing, and aqua classes/swimming

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Over the summer, I work 4 days a week, with Fridays off, and I am exhausted after the long days, I also need to lose at least 30-40 lbs for my wedding dress to fit again, will explain below.

2 random fun facts about you? I danced (tap, jazz, ballet, hiphop) for 35 years, love tap dancing, and want to do it again, I collect elephants

Anything else you would like to share? I am a newlywed, we were civilly married June 24, 2017, we are waiting for his annulment to get approved through the Catholic archdiocese, and we want to convalidate our wedding vows in the Catholic church, where we will have the wedding ceremony all over again, so I will be wearing my wedding dress again, and I need to be able to fit into it. We do not have a date yet, but I need to lose weight anyway, my primary really wants me to have weight loss surgery, and I don't want to lose weight that way.

What diet are you following? None specific, just trying to cut down on highly processed foods, doing more home cooking from scratch, eating more fruits and veggies

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, especially through the forest preserves. Also like kick boxing and weights

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Emotional/stress eating. Blood pressure was high last doctor visit, and cholesterol too. Not enough that I have to go on meds (yet), but need to get both down so I don't have to. Heart problems, stroke, high cholesterol, and diabetes also run in my family, so doing all I can to prevent those from happening.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Was in the Tiger Monarchs several times. Enjoyed it, lost weight, and made lots of new friends. Broke my ankle right after I had joined the first time (4 years ago this month), so had to drop out, but it healed enough so I could do the Fall session.

2 random fun facts about you?

Anything else you would like to share? Watching my active toddler grandson during the school year, since my daughter is a teacher. They will be moving back in with us as soon as I can get things ready here.

What do you like to do for fun? Love crocheting, making beaded wire
jewelry newly added scrapbooking. Love star gazing. Bird watching. Spending time with nature when the weather and heat allows. Finally I like to watch lighting.

What diet are you following? I have some health concerns so I am trying to follow a healthier way of eating.

What is your favorite exercise? Love walking but only able to walk inside die to some wicked allergies. Recently brought a mini trampoline. Seems I am always on the look out for a new exercise I am able to do. LOL. Asthma is a factor in my life.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? health...high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes which is well controlled. new IBS from stress caused by divorce but I am better off with out the person from which is gone. I have a adult special needs sons of which I care for.

What do you like to do for fun? Reading, Gardening, Knitting, Going to the Gym, and mostly playing with my little dog Daisy

What diet are you following? No diet - I try to get a lot of protein every day but the rest is whatever suits me.

What is your favorite exercise? Life Barre - reminds me of my younger days as a dancer.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Balancing my time at the gym with all the other responsibilities in my life.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several now and I love them all. The challenges provide just enough motivation to go out and walk a few more steps or pedal the stationary bike for just a few more minutes!

2 random fun facts about you? I had 3 daughters, found myself pregnant and ended up with twin boys! I have now been married to my second husband for longer than I was married to my children's father.

Anything else you would like to share? 15 months ago I had a total knee replacement, which is what eventually led me to the gym. While I still have pounds to loose, my body is stronger today than it's been in more years than I can remember!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Getting 10K a day steps and doing pilates/Yoga daily

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done a few.I like to get at least 120 minutes a day in to help land the plane.

2 random fun facts about you? I love animals and working on (STILL) trying to firm up the belly fat.

Anything else you would like to share? I am working on trying to be more of a minimalist
and trying to simplify our lives.

What is your name or nick name? My name is Jen, short for Jeanette


What do you like to do for fun? My fun thing to do is work on the Spark team(s), mostly the Firecracker and BLC teams right now. Have been a FC since 2008 so am a devoted FIRECRACKER---will be back working with them this challenge. MUST MENTION PLAYING WITH MY MALTEST BABY. she is the light of my world.

What diet are you following? I don't ever work well with a set of rules, so I watch what I eat closely and never over-do anything. One normal helping of the main dishes, no desserts, few, if any sweet snacks and it has really worked for me. I know it wouldn't work for all, but then I've 'been there, done that, with "diets" that don't work for me, including WW etc. I've lost over 50 lbs so it is working for me.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking only, right now. Fell 2 times and healing slowly. Walking has really helped lately.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Yes, as above, fell rather seriously, no breaks but badly banged up: black eye, bumped head, ribs very sore-(not broken-x-rayed-ok) , still having issues. So still dealing w/ some pain issues. Getting there emoticon

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Always do good, not really great, but good.

2 random fun facts about you? 1. I am a preachers wife and very active there. 2. I have 3 great grands who are adorable.

What is your name or nick name? My Name is Nikki though some call me Kolie

What do you like to do for fun? Spending time with my daughter and walking.

What diet are you following? Sparkpeople, logging food and getting information

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, I love walking

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Yes, In September, I fell on vacation and have 2 spinal injuries, a shoulder injury and having issues with my left leg. I have had the spinal injury surgery in my neck and the shoulder surgery. I am exploring other options currently to try to avoid lower spinal surgery. So with this being said, exercise is challenging but I am up and walking and trying to make the best of it.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the challenge leading up to the September vacation and loved it. The people were great and very motivational. I love the 5% challenges. I did have to drop out because the first couple of months were to much to handle at first.

2 random fun facts about you? I love to walk, just for the fun and stress relief it brings me. Reading to me is like chocolate to many!

Anything else you would like to share? I need this motivation to get up, get around this down feeling and get healthy!

What do you like to do for fun? I love walking and exploring

What diet are you following? Keto/Paleo

What is your favorite exercise? I'm getting into the gym thing again. I love walking, but that's not enough any more. Going to try and get into swimming again.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Personal challenge is 10k steps minimum a day, get heart healthy and drop 15 pounds.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I love the 5% challenges. This will be my 4th or 5th, I can't remember. I love the support and the challenge and how interactive this group is. All my other groups are pretty dead, but this challenge and the motivation help me to keep pushing forward.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a software developer for a credit card processing company and sit on my booty all day (need exercise). I love to read and try to read 3 books minimum a month.

Anything else you would like to share? Thank you for inviting me once again, I really look forward to these challenges and I'm excited to help lead this time around.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to read, take walks and spend time with my family

What diet are you following? No true diet, spark plan - lower calories and trying to eat healthier - more whole foods and more protein.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Not really, Busy life - 2 jobs and aging parents (Dad hasn't driven since last September)

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. My first 5% Challenge was the Spring 2018 one. I enjoyed it but didn't do as well as I thought I could have. I will work harder this time!

2 random fun facts about you? My son was born on Christmas day. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs.

Anything else you would like to share? My husband works 2 part time jobs and I work 1 full and 1 part time job. One of my husband's jobs is working the weekends and holidays for the county health department inspecting temporary food events (fairs, special events and carnivals), to be able to see him on the weekends I usually ride along.

For fun, I like to visit places, sing, go to the movies (even if it is in my home sometimes) teach Sign Language, and people watch.

What diet are you following?
I am attempting the Ketogenic Diet.

What is your favorite exercise?
Stretching is my favorite exercise.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
I have just learned to walk again after more than two years, so I just want to make my legs stronger and go as I am able.

I have done many 5% Challenges and they are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Not only do I get educated in so many different ways but the comradery is AMAZING!!!

2 random fun facts about you?
I loved serving in the military.
In the movie theater's I am very animated and interact, out loud, with the movie.

2 random fun facts about you? I owned a Fleet Feet running store for 8 years. Im not an elite runner, in fact I only run 2 times a week. I walked the first 20 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, hoping to do more of it this year.

I want to go down a size before I go on cruise in July.
Hypothyroidism, and being a senior, have slowed my metabolism.
Have to be careful about type of activity because it can aggravate foot, knee, hip, back issues. Walking is easiest on my body.

I have never done a 5% Challenge.

2 random fun facts about you?
I did the CN Tower Edge Walk in Toronto last month.
I have done ziplining and white water rafting in my senior years, and I've flown in a glider.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? In 2012 I broke my knee and now I can not bend it more than 78 degrees. At the same time I broke my knee, my leg artery tore and so a cardiovascular surgeon did a vein stripping and made me a new artery. Because of this my right leg swells all the time.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Yes, I did a few challenges, before I broke my knee. I did not lose much weight in the challenges.

2 random fun facts about you? I worked in Africa from 1977 to 2014 as a Missionary nurse. I am now retired and in the States.
I got married 19 months ago at age 67.... for the first time!!! I will turn 69 years old during the challenge.

Anything else you would like to share? I will do my best in the challenge, even though my bad leg prevents me from doing as much walking as I did in the past.

What diet are you following? No C.R.A.P. diet ....staying away from processed carbs and pre-packaged anything, aiming for a 80% plant-based food plan with lean meats and dairy in moderation.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? To add in some variety to my exercise choices and begin some strength training with hand weights.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Yes - Began with the Winter 5% challenge. I did not reach my 5% goal by final weigh in, but did hit it during break. I am in the Spring 5% challenge and very close to hitting 5% this round, so Saturday will tell. Either way I consider both 5% challenge sessions a personal success because they provided the motivation and encouragement I needed to work towards my long-term goal weight.

2 random fun facts about you?

I am an entrepreneur who helps individual stop living life by default and instead choose to OPTIN2LIVING life with intent and purpose. I do this by encouraging them to ditch the toxic things in their lives that they may have in their homes, around their families or even in their minds that pollute and undermine their wellness and life balance.

I am also a artist and had a full art gallery showing of my work locally a few years ago that still is a highlight of just how my life has been changing over the past 5 years once I decided to stop believing the 'stinking thinkin' in my head!

Anything else you would like to share?

I am returning to the 5% challenge this summer round as an EL (Extra Leader) with the Rowdy Rebels who I am blessed to call my 'tribe' and with who I plan to stick with 'for life'!!!

- Misha

What do you like to do for fun?
- Same as the last time. Reading and Drawing, as well as gaming.

What diet are you following?
- I'm following the Keto diet with intermittent fasting as well.

What is your favorite exercise?
- Swimming. I'm a total water baby.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
- Trying to work on stress management and eating right.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
- I have been a part of the Shooting Stars the past couple of times. It was a great way for me to hold myself accountable, despite not reaching my goal each of those times. I have high hopes for this season, though.

2 random fun facts about you?
- I am an artist. My nephew is now 1 year old.

Anything else you would like to share?
- As with before, my schedule for work is a night time schedule, so my posting times will be later in the evening. I will try to post on time, but some days may be combined.

What do you like to do for fun? Reading and writing book reviews, card crafting.

What diet are you following? Healthy choices, mindful eating and staying within recommended calorie range.

What is your favorite exercise? Pilates 100's I do two sets a day, love them.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Physical issues, artificial joints limit some exercises.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the Spring Challenge and removed 7.5 pounds. My body releases weight at its own pace.

2 random fun facts about you? I'm a determined optimist and love dogs.

Anything else you would like to share? I have a long journey ahead but love every step of the way. I'm happy to be alive and love to laugh.

I enjoy reading, spending time with my grandkids.

I have not had much success following any diet, per say. I will count calories for the up coming challenge.

Walking

I have done 4 Challenges. This Spring Challenge I have been an Extra Leader for the Awesome A Team. I have really enjoyed that and it has given me a lot of respect for the leaders over me. They do a lot! The Challenges help me stay logged into Spark People more often and doing that helps me stay connected with others who are going through similar things. It is very encouraging.


2 random fun facts about you?
I am #2 of 6 kids
I grew up on an Asparagus farm :)
