When I don't feel like swimming hard, I just play in the water, like kids do. I really like spiraling through the water...a couple of strokes back and then I flip over for freestyle. Then I play with my 'toys': fins, kickboards, etc...it is just fun and keeps me motivated to go back another day and do a hard workout.

Good luck with your medication and I hope you can find your mojo soon.

Hi and welcome, Elona! Heather is right, this is a great group with challenges and daily updates. I suspect Laurie will be along shortly, she's moderating a 2014 points challenge. Lots of ways to earn points, not just fitness minutes, and your timing is great- it's being reset for May with all the changes to make something for everyone to shoot for.

Hi,

Stamina or not, I think I'm going to the gym to swim this AM.

Thanks for writing. It's much appreciated!

Hi all!

After much thought and soul searching I have stepped down from "team leader" of "Around The World Swimming Challenge" team, due to health reasons, Unfortunately, I have need of more support for myself than I am able to give others at this time. Somehow, I feel this is a step up for me rather than a step down. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all and learn new things. Right now, I am in dire need of getting back to swimming regularly. At this time I am in the water five days a week as a Learn to Swim instructor for young children. But, in terms of doing laps for myself I am lacking in motivation. My stamina and endurance is low at this time. I seem to get discouraged lately especially with my freestyle. I am usually a stubbornly motivated swimmer, but due to health reasons my progress is slow and it frustrates me. Two months ago I was diagnosed as hypothyroid/Hashimoto's and was started on medication. My condition has not been stabilized yet. My movements are still slow and I fatigue easily. I don't feel like myself. No wonder I have not been able to loose weight despite all my past efforts these past few months. I am now at the point of putting my health problems by the wayside and starting anew. Normally, I am a cheerful, positive minded person where no obstacle is insurmountable. I am now willing to begin my new life with a new attitude. My low point has only lasted around a month, but it's long enough for me to feel down. It's time to look up and onward! I am very happy to have found this team. It looks supportive, educational and fun! I look forward to making friends, giving back what I have received and having fun while swimming away!

Upward and onward!! emoticon

Thanks so much!
