I was approved by my insurance so I have my date. May 10th. Last Thursday was my EGD and was a breeze. I hope the operation goes as smoothly. I am the seventh person where I work to have it done by same surgeon. He should offer a discount like two for one!
Anxious and excited and will not fall for the "Last Supper Syndrome". Ironic around Easter!

Thanks Cindy. I've been trying the Fusion Bariatric protein powders that are sold at my surgeons office Juice bar. They have 8 flavors. Of those I have only found 2 that I can tolerate. Mint Choc Ice Cream and Strawberry shortcake. I don't know what others I'm allowed to look for elsewhere or try. I emailed the nurse at the office to ask as I tried Choc Peanut Butter Friday night that is by Body Fortress sold at Walmart and that was pretty good. My brother bought it accidentally and tried it any way. Both him and his wife like it. (she had this surg Aug of 2010 and I'm having the same doc AND we work together. She is down almost 120 lbs already!)

Because I'm doing lap, I start the liver reduction diet on 3/17. I have also bought some single packets of the Nector juice. I've tried Twisted Cherry with a crystal light lemonade packet and it's awesome. Also tried Fuzzy Navel with walmart brand packet of peach iced tea. THAT was really good too. I have a couple more that I bought to try. I can't get over the price on these protein things. The bariatric vitamins are expensive too. But I did find out I can get my doc to right a script for "lifetime" and pay it through my flex card.

My surgeons office has support group meetings 2 x's a month. I've attended one. This Tuesday is another and I will start going on a regular basis. On 3/24 they will have their spring clothing exchange so I plan on going to that to get some "smaller" outfits for after. I've already set my sites on with Salvation Army and Am-Vets stores in our area carry the best variety. :)

I've bought my sugar free popcicles, jello and yogurt too. The first two I can use towards my 64oz of clear liquid while on my 2 week liver reduction diet in between my meal shakes.

Congratulations Tammy, Glad your husband is on board and stepping up to help you succeed. That is very important. Support will get you through the rough spots. When will you start the pre-surgery diet? I ended up on the pre-surgery diet for 4 weeks due to surgery delays. I started trying various protein drinks a couple of months before surgery. It took around 50 brands to find 3 that I like the taste of and still use sometimes to this day (almost 6 months out).

Do find a local support group now and go to the meeting before surgery so you can ask them questions.

Thanks Deborah. Everyone that I've talked to say even though it's hard in the beginning they wouldn't change the fact that they did it. I know it'll be hard as I'm such a huge foodie and when I cook I taste taste taste. My hubby is already talking to my boys about meals HE will be cooking as I won't be able to eat with them for a bit. My husband is also a Sparker and he has started back on the band wagon today. He'll need to be able to keep up with me after 3/31!

Congratulations on getting a surgery date. I understand being nervous, this is a life changing decision.
I had surgery Aug, 2009. It was the best decision I ever made. I hope it works out for you in that way as well.

Hi I'm Tammy. I turned 41 on March 1 and that is the day I received my call for my date. My surgery is scheduled for 3/31. My RnY Gastric Bypass is being done laparoscopic. I will go for my pre-op tests sometime the week of 3/14. I start my Liver Reduction Diet on 3/17 and am fearing that big time as I'm having a VERY hard time finding the Bariatric Fusion portein powder shakes in flavors that I can tolerate. I will be having 3-4 shakes per day for these 2 weeks plus the week after surgery.

March 22 is my nutrition/exercise class AND the day I see my primary doc for medical clearance. I'm nervous and excited. More nervous now I think.

I have a great support system in my family. My husband is behind me 100% and very happy for me. My MIL and SIL had their surgery on the same day in 2005. I have another SIL who had it done last August. So I have a lot of folks to talk to.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do about the protein shake issue, I welcome them with open arms!

Make all those changes in eating a habit. Do them consistently while you aren't struggling so that it will be habit if you do start to struggle. You will be in really good shape for the future.

Thanks everyone. Rest, yes I find that is very important. I have never been so tired before in my life. Several days I was ready for bed right after supper. I had my 2 week check up and everything is going very well. As I have not had any reactions or problems they said I will need to rely on lifestyle changes. Measuring my food, watching what I eat, etc will become very important as I don't get that full feeling, nor do I feel all that hungry either. Honestly I don't feel like I have had surgery at all except that I know I'm surviving on a small amount of food which before would have caused severe hunger, depression and frustration. They said I can add in my B12 drops so will start doing that, maybe that will help give me back some energy. Thanks for your feed back!

Great job Dina. Be sure to get enough rest, which is hard when you go back to work. Your body went through a war during surgery and needs lots of rest.

I had my surgery Feb, 16th and started back at work on the 25th. I feel great! The first 4-5 days were rough but other then not being able to eat as much, not being hungry and my battle scars which are now itchy (had it done laproscopic), I wouldn't even recognize that I have had surgery. Getting the protein and water in though is a daily challenge and goal. Water more so then anything. Also chew chew chew that food to applesauce consistency. I did notice this morning I ate way too fast for breakfast. Think I will switch my protein shake to breakfast so I can take it with me. Feeling great and have lost a total of 35 pounds from my presurgery diet to now.

Congratulations on getting your surgery date!

I do not remember seeing an email with the list of people who are having surgery this week. So I will just send a general get well message to all --hoping everyone with surgery this week comes through surgery well and recovers fast.

I have my last required support meeting on March 16th and then my follow-up doctor's appointment on St. Patty's Day... I'm hoping it will bring me some luck with a surgery date... I'm trying to arrange for sitters for my three little ones and manage how I am going to be able to be up and about... Any ideas on how long it took everyone???

I can always dream of no more insulin but so far I still need a little insulin although it is about 80% less diabetes meds than before surgery. I am thrilled that I now only take a little bit of insulin! I can easily celebrate the victory of going from 6 shots a day to only 2 shots.

10 days to go! Been on pre-op diet since Wednesday -- really not as bad as I thought it would be. Have to do my shakes every 4 hrs. Only problem I am having is blood sugars -have had to really adjust my pump pretty frquently-- was on 5.5 units/hr on Wednesday morning and am now at 2 units/hr today! Blood sugars in the 80-90's. I think that is a good sign that i may get to go home after surgery with no insulin!!!!!!

PRETTYNPUDGY was rescheduled for 2/25. Woo Hoo Here's hoping everything works (especially the power supply) and the surgery happens on time.
