Hello. I am Kimi Anne (aka AFVChic). I am retired from the USAF, but still work fulltime and go to school almost full-time as well.

When I am not working, going to class, or doing homework I enjoy reading, checking out parks, historical sites, museums, traveling, cooking, and practically anything Disney related.

I meet with my nutritionist monthly. She has me focusing on protein, healthy fats, plus fruits/vegetables. I am using both SparkPeople and MyFitnessPal to track my daily food/water/exercise log, but it is a work in progress.

I enjoy working out, but have trouble making it the priority it needs in my life. I enjoy group classes like Zumba, step aerobics, water aerobics, and lately aqua Zumba. I am also interested in trying some yoga and pilates. I need to work on strength training as well. My husband and I are also trying to find dancing classes on days that do not conflict with my class schedule. This past winter, we read about the Virginia Capital Trail and decided we wanted to ride it this spring/summer. Working on building up the stamina (aka tailbone falling asleep/going numb) this 52-mile trail.

I came to know and browse SparkPeople many years ago, but only recently have gotten back into utilizing its many tools.

This is my second 5% Challenge; 2017 Winter 5% Challenge was my first. I was on the Rookies team. Even though I missed my goal I enjoyed it and want to continue.

I love the fact that my husband is my nearest and dearest friend. We have raised five wonderful children together (three girls - 22, 22, and 20; two boys - 19 and 18). We went from having a full house to just one kid remaining at home. Come this fall it looks like we will finally be empty-nesters.

I was 247lbs at my heaviest. I am currently 173.5lbs. My goal is not to be skinny, but healthy. To be so, I need to make working out more of a priority and consistency in my life, plus continue staying with the positive food changes Ive made this past year and not slip back into unhealthy habits.

What is your name or nick name? Laurie

What do you like to do for fun? Walk, read, kayak this summer I hope, travel - I am currently reassessing my life in a lot of ways --- since my left knee surgery in Sept, 2015, and then again in June, 2016 -- my knee has never come back to what I had expected it would, (now I am told that i have chondromalicia patella) and I am no longer able to do most of the active things that I loved to do. It makes me sad and frustrated.

What diet are you following? I have gone to Weight Watchers for years -- with some success. I have moved to a different meeting recently, and find I am feeling more motivated. I am also tracking on the SP tracker, as I like and dietary analysis it provides.

What is your favorite exercise? Stationary or elliptical Bicycle, Walking-but not too far because of my knee -- I take my 10 month old puppy, Leyden, with me and he loves going ! I love the leg press machine at the gym --- it helps me to feel that I am strengthening my left leg and knee -- at least now i can stand on my left leg in order to get my right leg into a leg on my pants !!

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I tried the Spring Challenge, but got too frustrated in trying to track -- didn't know how to find the places that I needed to get to. I quit it.

2 random fun facts about you? I am fun loving and social, caring and helpful to others - Love to go places and spend time with friends.

Anything else you would like to share? I was laid off after 27.5 years with the same company, in Jan, 2016 -- have since also retired. I am now 61. i am looking forward to this upcoming warmer weather season -- looking to get back outdoors and busier again. I have begun to enjoy more cooking lately -- never had time when i was working -- it is something new again, that i am trying --- wish my husband ate more veggies --- it would be easier.....

Hi! my name is Sue. For fun I enjoy singing in and conducting a small choir that visits five nursing homes each month, going to to a weekly knitting group, getting together with friends and reading - not to mention sparking! emoticon

I don't follow a specific diet - just tracking my food on Spark and staying within my calorie range. I enjoy walking either inside on a treadmill (especially this time of the year) or outdoors in good weather. I also strength train 2-3 times a week.

This is my fourth challenge - all with the Awesome A's. They're a great team and I've enjoyed my experiences during each challenge although I only met my weight loss goal in my first challenge last spring. The challenge keeps me motivated to work a little harder and has pushed me to try some things I might not do otherwise (like declutter!)

I like dancing to "oldies" music (late 50s, 60s, 70s for me) It'll be 10 years this June since I retired from teaching. emoticon emoticon

I am proudly Canadian! emoticon emoticon emoticon
I've lost 50 pounds in the past year by being consistently active on Spark! emoticon

Just joined the team. I made a personal goal to lose 10% of my weight in 2017. Hoping the exercise and nutrition I am doing for that will support my efforts here and maybe it won't take the entire year to lose 16 pounds.

8. Are you new to the 5 % Challenges or been here before: I successfully completed the Fall 5% Challenge, losing exactly 10 lbs in 8 weeks (goal was 9 lbs). I lost a total of 25 lbs in 2016 (yay!), but regained 6 lbs since the end of November (boo). No surprise, as I was working 65+ hrs a week and also spent the month of December moving to a new apartment, along with some other big life changes!

9. What do you consider your worst trigger food? Crunchy food like potato chips.

10, What eating plan are you following? I drive for FedEx which means I'm on the road, constantly in motion, 5 days a week. My main goal is to pack a healthy, substantial and interesting lunch every day (plenty of protein, fruits and veggies) and to stay hydrated, so that I get the fuel I need for physically-demanding work, and am not tempted by fast food.

11. What is your favorite exercise/workout? hiking, blues and swing dancing, and running outdoors. I ran two 5Ks in Nov/Dec, but haven't been able to get out much lately due to weather and my schedule.

Hi Everyone!! I'm poking around and was so excited to see I hadn't gone PAST the start date for the 5% challenge. I've seen this challenge around but the dates never fell right for me... except this one.

What is your name or nick name? Beth

What do you like to do for fun? Read, I've found audiobooks so that is a plus!! travel & spend time with hubby is at the top of the list as well!

What diet are you following? Right now I'm not on a specific "diet" more of I'm trying to take items out of my eating habits and focus on portion control.

What is your favorite exercise? elliptical then probably weight machines

1. Is this your first 5% challenge? No, I did the Fall challenge and enjoyed the accountability.

2. What do you like to do for fun?I like to read, play the piano, and knit. In the warmer months, I like to garden.

3. What diet are you following? No specific diet, just trying to eat more fruits and veggies, less processed food, less carbs.

4. What is your favorite exercise? Walking. Inside or out.
5. What is your occupation? I'm a registered nurse, and I currently work in a hospital, in an endoscopy unit, where we do colonoscopies. I love my job. :)

7. What are the areas you struggle with in this journey? Portion control, binge eating, emotional eating.

As a senior in high school, I received the John Phillip Sousa award, for best musician in my band. My husband also received the same award from his high school in another part of the state.

I took piano lessons from age 6 to 19. I'll play the piano anywhere I can. I love it!

What diet are you following? Plant based, limited meat and dairy, portion control

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, swimming and body weight exercises.

If you did a previous Challenge tell us about it. I've done previous challenges, some more successful than others.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a young retiree. I love trying new recipes.

Anything else you would like to share? I was obese when I joined SP in April 2011. I lost 55 lbs and reached a normal BMI. Fast forward and due to a combination of menopause, thyroid issues and loss of motivation, I have regained 15 lbs. I now feel fat and flabby and I miss being fit and toned.

Hello, My name is Sarah.

I love playing video games and going out with my boyfriend. I also like knitting and visiting my parents and granny-dogs as often as possible.

I don't follow a diet plan per se, I'm just trying to eat as unprocessed as possible to cut extra sugar out and make naturally present nutrients work for me.

I adore yoga. That would have to be my favorite exercise, followed closely by kayaking. I'm excited to start exercising for this challenge, as it is my first.

Two random facts about me:

I love to bake. All the time. I have left over milk or eggs and goodies just start appearing in my kitchen....Feeding people makes me happy. I also really like crocheting tiny key chain animals. Like so:



As an aside, I'm a graphic designer in training. My career is destined to be in front of a computer screen so I'm trying to prepare for taking care of my body for the rest of my life. I lost 20lb a year ago, but then I stopped trying and gained it all back. Here's to getting back on the boat!

Hi, all. My name is Angie, I grew up in southern Indiana, but I have lived in Tennessee for 26 years with my husband. I am 48 years old with no children however, we have two kitty cats (Bubba and Dora) and seven nieces/nephews. I teach mathematics at Middle Tennessee State University. I have been there almost 10 years and during the school semester I have 2 hour round-trip commute. In the coming year I am looking forward to renewed energy to be active with my husband (biking, hiking and maybe racquetball) and I look forward to continuing harp lessons. I have enjoyed swimmining the past.

I don't have any particular diet that i follow. I try to incorporate healthy habits that are supported by SP coaches and long time members.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done a few 5% challenges in the past, but none since I broke my ankle June 2015 and being pregnant 2016!

2 random fun facts about you? My ankle has 2 plates and 9 screws total. I have a 5 month old (tomorrow), hubby and pup that make me smile every day!

Anything else you would like to share? My ankle is still giving me daily trouble ... I have to go back to the surgeon at some point to see if hardware removal will help ... in the meantime, I have been doing what I can for exercise (but definitely need to ramp it up to get the scale moving)

Hi all! This is my first challenge. Love to run but have Achilles tendonitis which has me limited to non impact exercise.

Biggest downfall is tremendous appetite.

58 yr old w 2 sons and 1 grandson.

Long time WW, coming up only 6 yr anniversary next week. Have lost and kept off 60 pounds, too bad I need to lose 80, LOL. I attend weekly meetings and will use their WI weights to report here.

I am a recent widow and retiree.
I hate exercise and love to travel. My 5 GK's keep me busy.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I completed the Fall with the Determined Daisies and i was about 1 to 2 pounds off my goal.

What is your favorite exercise? HIIT, walking and weight lifting

If you did a previouss 5% challenge tell us about it. I started my first time in the Fall and had a great time. Very supportive and i really had a blast. I lost almost my 5% of total body weight which was great. I was frustrated about my lack of weight loss but i am learning to focus on the journey instead. I look forward to the next challenge. I hope to stay with the Determined Daisies but any group is perfect!

2 random fun facts about you? I love make up and I love to organize.

Anything else you would like to share? I have 2 kids, married 21 years, love clothes, shoes, purses and I love salty foods!

What do you like to do for fun? go to theme parks, swim & all water activities, wine and dine

What diet are you following? Tracking via SP, so basically trimming the calories

What is your favorite exercise? Strength training

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I joined my first 5% challenge in the fall of 2016 and I was impressed with the the momentum a community could build up. I felt dedicated to my team and was encouraged to exercise by not wanting to let my team down. I was successful during the time and met my goal weight!! :-)

2 random fun facts about you? I can always measure out leftovers into the accommodating sized Tupperware/container just by eyeballing it. Perfect every time. And - I'm really quiet and seem to "sneak up" on people and they get frightened. My husband calls me a ninja.

Anything else you would like to share? I'm totally excited about the challenge and looking forward to losing 4 kgs / about 10 more lbs.

After I retired from my career, I started a part time bookkeeping financial business that has turned into full time and has me much too busy....especially during tax season! I try to balance all this with making time for the family, especially my grandchildren. When the days are too short, I chop off the sleep I need, a very, very unhealthy habit!

I am excited about 2017 and with the Winter 2017 Challenge want to repeat the success of my very first Challenge I did! I am looking forward to our journey toward greater health and fitness together!

What do you like to do for fun? I like to travel, hike, sing. dance and play the organ..

What diet are you following? I use the spark tracker to keep me honest about what goes in y mouth and try to make healthy food choices ( most of the time).

What is your favorite exercise? I like Zumba, Jessica Smith, Tracy Campoli and the spark exercise site.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I only lost 3 % but I was thrilled with that. What was so appealing to me was the challenge helped me to remember to put me in as things that are important to my life. I have gotten stronger and some of the daisies kept it up during the off period and it has really helped me with my focus and strength.

2 random fun facts about you? I love to laugh and be silly. Although I am older than dirt as my children and grandchildren say, I have a young mind.

Anything else you would like to share? I am a retired nurse and am still in recovery from knee surgery 2 years ago and have found that although I have to modify many of the exercises they still work and I get better every time. I have found that as long as you keep trying you are not failing.

I am a young at heart 66 year old transplant from Manhattan, New York City who moved to Miami, Florida in 1974. I lived there until one month ago when I retired to Calamba, Philippines. For 30 years I practiced pediatric nursing. When my health turned not so good I changed careers and now I am a Red Cross swimming instructor and Lifeguard. I have two grown children, one grandson and one grandchild on the way. I started Spark People in order to improve my health through good eating and exercise about 4 years ago. SP is now my second home. I do love this site and work hard for myself and to support others on their journey towards a better and happier lifestyle.

What do you like to do for fun?
I have broad interests. I like swimming a lot. One day I want to compete in the Senior Olympics. I'm close to competition speed, but not quite enough for my liking. I like to walk and I hike sometimes. I like to explore and find adventures. I enjoy non-fiction books about people and science discoveries and love a good end of the world book, but no walking dead people please. Lol. I like to surf the net. I am on Facebook so I can share my photos and chat with family and friends. I'm in love with my new Sony Experian XZ 23 megapixel android phone. I'm obsessed with photography, I like editing and being creative. I never got beyond the 60's rock craze. I was a member here about two years ago. I was new and lacked confidence. Everyone seemed to be losing weight and I wasn't, but I stuck with it anyway. I left not losing weight and a little disappointed. I am ready now for a challenge My confidence is much better and so are my computer skills. Lol.

Anything else you would like to share?
Like many members here, I have health challenges. I have rheumatoid arthritis and chronic pain. I'm on medicines that have arrested the disease and I feel better than I have in years. Since RA is an inflammatory disease I have difficulty losing weight. I have to exercise a lot because my basal metabolism rate is only 900. I am on a 1200-1500 calorie meal plan. I don't find it hard to do. I just have to be extra vigilant to exercise one hour daily aerobically.
I am very grateful Spark People is here for me. It has helped me a lot. It also has given me the opportunity to give back.

What do you like to do for fun? I like singing and being around my family.

What diet are you following? I am following a salt restrictive plan.

What is your favorite exercise? I was pretty active for a senior until October, 2016. I started having excruciating pain shooting down my left leg. I found out that it was a sciatic nerve problem. Now I only do stretches to help minimize the pain. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do more activity.

What is your name or nick name? Margie

What do you like to do for fun? Computer games, listen to music, spend time with my extended family.

What diet are you following? Haven't been doing so well on that front lately. For the challenge, I'll go back to a modified Mediterranean diet, with input from my nutritionist.

What is your favorite exercise? Swimming, but don't have a gym here yet, so walking is the second favorite.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I think my first 5% Challenge was in 2010 shortly after I joined Spark People. I have done several since, then. They are always a great motivator to stay on track, and I love the LTGL challenge portion!

2 random fun facts about you? Fun?? Crazy maybe, we just sold our house on the central coast of CA and moved to Idaho the end of September. This is my first real winter in over 25 years :-) Moving wasn't so painful, that right after we got here, we signed a contract to have a house built so my free time has been taken up with building details.

Anything else you would like to share? I have been away from Spark for months, so happy to find this team on my first day back! I'm looking forward to a successful challenge, and wishing you all much success on your teams!

Hi, I thought I'd done this so if I did, hello, again. I'm Rita. I started with Sparks this fall. So this is my first 5% Challenge. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.
I've been on my weight loss journey since the spring of 2015. I was put on a limited carb diet. No more than 30gm/meals and no more than 15gm/snacks. Daily limit of 120gms. It worked well for the first 50 pounds. The last 10 have been slow going.

I'm looking at a different meal plan that makes more sense to me. I think it is the answer I've been looking for.

My mobility is limited due to injuries and several surgeries. SO...now that you know my weight loss is slow and my mobility is limited, everyone eager to be on the same Rookie team as me...please form the line here.

I have a recumbent exercise bike that I can peddle while watching TV so that is my go-to exercise. Am going to try to follow Spark People exercise videos and get some variety going.

I did these 5% challenges 4 years ago to lose weight for a trip to Africa. (which I have since gained back! argh!) I like the comradery and the competition it makes it fun and helped keep me going... thus I sought it out to do it again! emoticon

I went to Swaziland, Africa in 2013. (It is a tiny, poor country between South Africa and Mozambique.)

What diet are you following? Spark diet, no restrictions

What is your favorite exercise? Running, anything outdoors

If you did a previous Challenge tell us about it. In 2013, I made my 5% in all 4 challenges, reaching goal weight at the end of the Fall challenge.

2 random fun facts about you? I love cats and have 3 grandsons.

Anything else you would like to share? I have let some weight creep back on and need to focus to lose 5% again this challenge.

What do you like to do for fun? I like hiking and being outdoors, working on our family dairy farm, spending time with my family, sparking, surfing the internet, learning more trivia

What diet are you following? Nutrient-dense, minimal processed food, low complex carb, fruits, veggies and beans, fibre, quality lean meat, quality fat, coconut oil and kombucha every day and I have a daily calorie limit I try not to go over

What is your favorite exercise? hiking - in general all cardio like biking, running, swimming

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done about 8 and I like that these challenges are steps with breaks between the steps, so we can set reachable goals and achieve them. And the leaders are awesomely awesome in so many good ways.

2 random fun facts about you? I like frogs and I want to be a rock climber when I reach goal weight.

Anything else you would like to share? I am happy with my life and grateful for all the good things I enjoy.

What is your name or nick name? Jeannie My granddaughter gave me the name Awmma when she was a baby.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to knit, go to the gym, run walk or jog, I enjoy board games and putting puzzles together; my family is convinced that cleaning the house is my way of having fun so I am never at a loss for something "fun" to do.

What diet are you following? cut the bread and sugar down, and portion sizes.

What is your favorite exercise? running, step, dancing, warrior workout at the gym

What do you like to do for fun? the Hubs & I love movies, we can binge (& plan to all Xmas weekend lol.. somehow I gotta move a little though..right???) & I love to drive and see places! I could go on drives every day if I could!

What diet are you following? High Fat/Low Carb, closest to Ketogenic

What is your favorite exercise? The kick box/boxing part of my Tae Kwan Do class

How long have you been Sparking? since 2009 but only recently have I actually been involved

What are your proudest Spark achievements? taking on the Motivational Leader roll after being active 1 challenge my entire spark life!

If you did a previous Challenge tell us about it. I did the 5% Fall Challenge, this was my first social involvement with Sparkpeople since I joined. I always did things on my own & talked to no one. I started my new program & the challenge at the same time determined to make this time different. I definitely succeed because here I am!! (not knowing a thing of what to do or what to expect haha)

2 random fun facts about you? I LOVE The Rocky Horror Picture Show and I was born & raised in CA.. moved to Indiana at 21 left at 34 & moved to a different part of Indiana at 38 lol

Anything else you would like to share? I have always been shy, until people know me, Weight has been an issue my entire life (at least until it was no longer cute to be chubby & fat so by what.. 6??? haha). Beginning my program became an all or nothing situation with me to the point that I threw myself into it full force, including utilizing SP the right way. I have 200 lbs minimum to lose and am finally truly determined to see that happen!! I have an amazing supportive husband that keeps me going & pushes me. I finally feel like I can see this as attainable.

What do you like to do for fun?
I love to do anything outdoors. But, I'm a 3-season person, I don't like winter! I can crochet but haven't done much of it lately.

What diet are you following?
Common sense - calories in must be less than calories out. I do try and limit carbs too.

What is your favorite exercise?
I'm a walker. Not a huge fan of strength exercises mainly because I have a very physical job.

This will be my first.

2 random fun facts about you?
I work in a foundry, yep pouring iron and all that stuff.
I live near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, most don't know there's one!

Merry Christmas to all of you emoticon emoticon

My name is Melanie and most of the people call me Mel. But only one calls me Ms. Marple. I don't know why. LOL.

For fun I like reading, watching TV, meeting people, learning new things, dining out

What diet are you following? I have followed many. My friend recommended Herbal Life Shakes to me lately, but I can't swallow that stuff. And I know the only diet, which will help me to achieve my goals, is eating healthy and eating as clean as possible.

What is your favorite exercise? At the moment I am trying to get into "exercising", but didn't find the right stuff for me yet. Outdoor or gym will not be one of them. I feel ashamed and I don't like the looks. So any indoor exercise have to meet my needs.

2 random fun facts about you? I can laugh about my silly self. I love to laugh, therefore I make the best out of any situation.

Anything else you would like to share? Unfortunately I am a procrastinator, as I want to do everything perfect. At least I am trying to. I have so many thoughts in my head. Good ones, how I could change everything etc., but then I am blocking myself. Only under pressure I can finally make it work. Just to find out that half of the stuff would have been enough.

I need a kick in the butt. Or two, or three emoticon I have to get myself together, and face the issue now!!!

I think those are the main facts about me.

I would like to face that challenge and make it work the best I can!!
