Just introducing myself. Back on SP after long time off and of course I need serious course correction. I love to refinish furniture and decorate with my auction and flea market finds. Something about a bargain that I can put my personal touch to is exciting to me.

I am a 70 something lady who lives in Virginia with my husband and grown son. We have our house on the market and are moving to Texas to be near my Dad. I have 24 pounds to lose and I am very serious about getting it done as I cannot wear half the clothes in my closet! Looking forward to any weight loss tips you all may have.

Longstanding sparker who loves crafts. Married with 3 adult kiddos. A few years I got enough time to start back working on crafting. My ys is special needs so I use crafting for enjoyment and stress relief. I enjoy crocheting, making jewelry from crochet. I just starting kinda scrapbooking although not really scrapbooking but I am making a fitness journal to add in my weight loss.

Hi there,

I've got a lot to lose but, God willing, a lot of time to do it. I love arts and crafts of all kinds and spend the rest of my time either working or with my amazing wife and even more amazing kiddo.

I actually signed up for this team a little while ago but then never followed through and actually posted, in part because my computer is being cranky and as a result is very very slow. I also haven't had much of a chance to look around and see what kinds of things are happening in the team, so if anyone has a suggestion of where to start, that would be great.

I am married, no kids, no pets, and currently unemployed though I did graduate last year with a PhD in anthropology and am now job hunting. We also bought a house last year, which we did some serious remodeling to, so we are spending a lot of time working on the house and currently many of my crafting supplies (like my beading supplies) are all in boxes etc. still and not accessible. In my copious (hah!) free time, I enjoy doing a wide variety of crafts--and an even larger number of projects within those crafts (I have 4 or 5 different projects on the needles for knitting alone, for example). I call it project ADD... also sometimes practicing Project infidelity, LOL. But that way I have projects for home, projects I can do in the car, projects I can do when I'm tired and can't focus, projects for when I'm distracted by chatting with friends and family, etc. I never sit still--I'm not sure I'm able to--which is why I call crafts productive fidgeting, LOL. In addition to making things, I read a lot, play video games, and participate in a historical living history organization called the Society for Creative Anachronism. In addition to period crafts in the SCA, I also enjoy fencing.

I am thinking that I should say hello and introduce myself a bit. I am back on SparkPeople this time for a year so far but I am not new to SparkPeople. I have been here two other times, first time I was here about 2 years and then the second time after about a 6 month break I reach 3 years on Spark. I had left as I was focusing and obsessing about weight loss. Which for me meant that if I wasn't doing everything such as walking, exercise and food tracking to the point of weight and measuring everything then I was doing nothing. If I ate awful I reasoned then I couldn't go for a walk. If I didn't walk, what was the point of doing any stretching. It was very much an all or nothing kind of life. emoticon

I turned my spark offline and took a break and really re-thought everything. I started going for an early morning walk as soon as I woke. I focused only on lifting my mood to set the tone for the day. It worked beautifully. Now I track food for the sole purpose of finding what feels good in the long run and what doesn't. What gives me heartburn and what doesn't. This really changed what I ate. Walks are my time to say my rosary and meditate for an hour each morning. As you can see none of that has to do with focusing on losing weight and yet the weight began coming off and very well. I average about a pound a week or so which I am very content with.

I am closer to 60 than 50 and both my hubby and I are retired. We moved to a small town from a big city and are loving every day. I like many things especially Halloween, Goth fashion (although I just can't wear it anymore as I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl) photography, kite flying, and helping my Mom. Although I do crochet (or at least learning new stuff in crochet) I do wood-burning and after a time away from it I have found I really love doing this once more. Here is my first project after so many years away.

My hubby and I also do a day-tripping travel blog from the 1st of May to Halloween each year and we both share a love of photography. Which we share on the blog. He also works on his model train set up as I work on my wood burning.

Well, that is us in a nutshell so far emoticon Looking forward to getting to know people here.

Hi, I'm Marjorie and thanks for the invite to the team. I love to cross-stitch, sew, cook, and just about any other craft that I can work with my Girl Scouts with. I would like to learn to Crochet but haven't found the time yet with 3 kids (15,10 going on 30 and 8 soon to be 9). My oldest is autistic but on the high functioning end of the spectrum but still needs guidance because he can become very laser focused to the detriment of everything else. My two younger children are my Girl Scouts. I love working with them and their troop. My middle is most definitely my one that loves to be crafty not that my youngest isn't.

I'm hoping I can instill in them a love of working with their hands. I'm looking to loose some of the weight that I have gained over the years so that I can have more energy to do fun things with them. I started out in September at 216lbs when I joined a Biggest Loser Contest through work. I was able to not gain weight during the competition and lost about 5% of the weight during a 6-8 week period. I am very happy with myself and looking forward to keeping the momentum going. I like the slow but steady weight lose.

Marjorie

Hi, thanks for the invite! I have in the past enjoyed making cards and stitchery, especially cross-stitich and have tried my hand at hardanger as well. I am attempting crochet currently but have not found the time to devote to it.

Good morning from a wet and rainy Alabama! My name is Amanda and I am not the craftiest person in the world, but I enjoy trying. I made some of my own Christmas ornaments last year, just like my mother did when I was a kid. Old fashioned clothespins turned into reindeer. :) I do most of my crafty work in the kitchen, which can be a little bit rough on me seeing as I love to eat almost as much as I love to cook!

I don't know if y'all count writing as a craft, but I also love to write. As a matter of fact, I have an idea for a book that I am toying with now, and I'm pretty sure it will become a reality soon enough.

If y'all want to know anything else, just ask me!

Thanks for the invite,
Amanda :)

My name is Debbie and I found SparkPeople in May of 2014 and joined. Married, homemaker, no kids, but I do have a doggie named Sprite, who we think is a kid, that we rescued 5 years ago at the age of 2 months! I had a pacemaker implanted, for my heart, 9 years ago, so I'm a Wired Sparker!! LOL
I live in a town outside of Cleveland Ohio. I'm in to scrapbooking and recently joined a group of ladies who make baby quilts for the NICU at Rainbow Babies Hospital. New to this Team.....joined this morning!! Glad to be here and look forward to things to come.

Good morning! I'm Michele, in Maryland. I live in an old house with my husband of 25 years, 2 boys 17 and 10, a big bouncy gold retriever, and 3 cats. I have a 19-yo daughter who's mostly off at college.

I've never met a craft I can say no to - I mostly quilt, crochet, and embroider. I dabble in cardmaking, dyeing, and stamping. I've tried to learn to knit multiple times, but it hasn't "taken" yet! I'd love to learn smocking and tatting.

I started taking taekwando about 2 years ago, and that does wonders for attitude, blood pressure, and pulse rate. Unfortunately, to lose weight I need to eat better, and that's really hard for me ~ but today is a new day.

Tammy, that is awesome! The needlework ministry at my church has a bunch of ladies in it that crochet or knit preemies caps or Chemo caps. They are beautiful! I am better crocheting something "flat" like a blanket, scarf or shawl, so I make those. I help with some of the quilt piecework - the little sewing machine I have available to me can't handle big projects. My regular Singer machine is in storage.

I began a small crochet project yesterday evening. I began to crochet a child's cap for my little cousin, who is 3. I had made some of these 2?3? years ago; it was a good way to use up parts of skeins of yarn from larger projects.

I actually want to begin to crochet infant and preemie hats for HLHS babies. The little cousin I mentioned above is an HLHS baby. The AHA wants them in red, so I shall need to get some red yarn or else contact the local AHA office and see if they have had red yarn donated. I think this will be a great winter project for me to make some of these.

I also spent about 15 minutes in my sewing room working on a tote project.

Kate I learned to crochet from the computer. I googled videos of the stitches I wanted to learn. I'm left handed and didn't realize I could watch videos using the left hand so I crochet sort of but not really right handed. :-)

so I started a crochet class on Craftsy. I have wanted to learn to crochet for years (my mom is an expert!!) but kept putting it off. I'm really clumsy at this but am determined to learn! Practice makes perfect as they say - I'm committing to spending at least 30 minutes a day to practice. It's so fun to see that I'm making progress already.

A friend gave me a crocheted prayer shawl from his church that the ladies group made. I was so touched by this gift. It is absolutely beautiful and I can feel the warmth and love every time I wrap myself in it. I hope to become good enough to make some of these for others in need.

Kate, I hope that all goes well for you with your chemo and that you will be feeling better soon. I went through that 9 years ago and ended up doing a lot of crocheting during that time. Our church started a prayer shawl ministry at that time and I did get some help understanding some of the patterns better after learning to crochet from books and patterns that were a little easier for me.

Carolyn, I hope that you continue to defy the odds with your disease, too. Don't let doctors tell you that you can't do it. They tried to do that to me 9 years ago and I wouldn't let them.

Kate -- Chemo is rough. I'm so sorry you're going through that, but I sure do now what you mean about no longer putting yourself on the back burner. I've done that for too long, as well. My 91-year-old Mom lives with us and I'm her primary caregiver. That wouldn't be so bad, except that I am in stage 4 of a very rare liver disease and the drs. gave me up long ago. Or .... as my hubby puts it -- I'm 9-1/2 years past my "Use By" date!! LOL!!

Mimmica -- Glad you're here, too. Look forward to getting to know you.

Hi - I'm from southwestern PA and enjoy many crafts including quilting, knitting, scrapbooking, rubber stamping and other crafts. I certainly am not an expert with any of these crafts but enjoy the process nonetheless.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of this year and am currently undergoing chemo which keeps me from spending as much time as I like with my hobbies. Since my diagnosis I have stopped putting myself on the back burner and am trying to do what makes me happy when I feel well.

Thank you for inviting me to this group!

I'm originally from MN. My mom did quilting with her church before Alzheimer's started taking away her memory. She doesn't sew much anymore, but it's always a happy memory for me.

Hello, Everyone! emoticon

I am happy to be a part of the team. I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's fitness / health journeys and your crafting adventures.

My name is Kimberly. I'm married with one child. I reached my goal weight in 2010 but gained it all back in the last few years. I love exercising but somehow manage to overdo things and injure myself. Hoping to find a good balance between my eating / exercising / working / crafting / genealogy and general life activities.

I knit and crochet but have an interest in many other crafts. I hope to learn sewing and quilting some day but right now I don't have enough time to knit and crochet as much as I would like. I have supplies to scrapbook but keep putting that off as well.

Hoping to do more crafting since the holidays are approaching. I have some things I would really like to make for my mom and for my cousin who recently had a baby.

Thank you so much, HOMEBODY67 for inviting me to the team! emoticon

*Edited for spelling and the weird way some of the words formatted in the post when I used the / symbol.

Thanks for the invite also! Not new to Spark, but new here. I don't get online and respond as often as I should, but I'll pop in as often as I can!

My craft of choice for now is Crochet. I'm making things for our church's needlework ministry - mostly prayer shawls and 1 baby blanket thrown in for good measure. When my eyesite was better, I did counted cross-stitch, still have LOTS of projects to do there! I've sewed in the past also - but it's been a while since I made any clothing. working on a quilt top for the above needlework ministry! I am using my cheap-o Janome machine - it does straight and zig-zag - nothing fancy! My Singer machine is in storage. My mom still has her Singer machine from either the 40s or 50s!

about me: I'm almost 58 (next month), married with 2 grown boys and 5 grandsons. My hubs has 2 grown girls - neither married and no grandkids yet.

Hi! And thanks for the invite. I'm 63 and retired for a couple of years. I've drifted away from a lot of the crafting that I used to do, but I hVe a whole lot of supplies yet! I'm getting back into quilting and recently crocheted an afghan for my granddaughter...which, as I was rusty doing it, made me realize that the last one I made was 27 years ago when my youngest was born!

I also sewed from little on, first machine was a Kenmore from Sears. I now have a Riccar, which needs repair, and a Bernina embroidery machine, that I need to learn how to use!, and a very unused Bernina serger.

I have a roomful of projects to paint, a file cabinets et full of paint books and some quite old paint. I really want to give this craft another shot before I give up on it and get rid of it.

I look forward to getting to know everybody.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for the invitation to join this team. My name is Elayne and I play alto sax. I'm 67 years young and am happily married for 35 years to my best friend. We've known one another for 40 years. I'm Mom to my feline fur baby named Max. He's solid black with amber eyes.

I used to do crafts all the time but then got away from it. I've made pillows, Christmas ornaments, and latch hook rugs. I'm hoping to get some new interests here. I just bought a brother no frills sewing machine and hope to learn how to thread it soon. I have never sewn on a machine, so what I do would have to be very simple and straight forward.

My husbdnd, Arjay, and I are both amateur ham radio operators and I am in the process of studying foir the last class license we can get. It's called an Extra Class, and it's very difficult. I want to do this to prove to myself that I can do it. I hope to pass the test the first Monday in December.

That's enough about me for now. Nice t be here and meet new friends.

Hi, I'm Tammy from SW Missouri. I am about to turn 57, and am semi-retired. I teach two days per week at a local community college, and am very fortunate that it is only ten minutes from my house.

My first sewing machine was a Kenmore; I bought it at Sears - on credit - when I was in college. I wish I still had it...

I enjoy working on my crafts, primarily sewing patchwork-related quilted items and crocheting. During a particularly hard time in my life, I would crochet on prayer shawls for a ministry in the church I was attending, but I worked for hours at a time...tendonitis reared its ugly head, so I have had to limit myself to a couple of rows at a time now.

My name is Tammy and I live in SW Missouri.

I'm Darlene and I just seem to get into various crafts and arts. I haven't done much for a while, but have done glass work, leather work, oil painting, beading/wire jewelry, crochet and am starting to learn knitting. Actually had done some knitting before, but couldn't keep the cast on straight. Now they knit onto the needles from just a slip knot, so I don't have as much problem as I did. I also go to the library a lot and do free crafts there when I see something I like (Saturday is metal crafting if I can remember to get there).

Hi! I'm Cathy (or Cat) and I live in CJ nestled deep in the forest and mountains of Southwest Oregon.

I'm almost 63 years old; Happily married to my best friend (still newlyweds of 6 years); I'm mom to a 5 pound, 10 year old Yorkie named Bad Leroy Brown, a rescue from a puppy mill, who loves to ride with us on our motorcycles.

I've been on SparkPeople for 3 year and have gained back the 15 pounds I initially lost, plus a couple more. But I'm back on track . . . . and I'm doing this for ME.

I've been a crafter all my life. When I first started working, earning my own money, still in high school, my first purchase was a Singler sewing machine. I started sewing when I was 6 or 7 years old on an old hand crank Singer Christmas present from my folks. I designed and sewed my entire wardrobe for about 10 years, including my first wedding dress.

Since retiring 3 years ago, I've started accessing my creative nature once again. I love new things and am looking forward to learning a lot from this team!
