I'm Heather , 42 and a single mom of a two wonderful children. I've used sparkpeople for many years. I lost over 90 pounds when I first started. I broke my knee in two places a year ago and have gained 50 pounds back. My knee never healed correctly. I love to hike. Since I broke my knee it's so hard to walk let alone hike anymore. I went through major depression this last year because of it. It's now time to take control of me. I hope to be hiking again by summer. One step at a time :)

Hi my name is Donna and I've used SparkPeople for several years (so far without much success). I turned 69 yesterday and I walk three mornings a week for about 3 miles. I'm a Fitbit user, manage to capture most of my steps each day. On my non-walking days I seldom get more than a mile or so, but I'll be trying to increase that. I've also had a sick husband for the last couple years and have been using that as an excuse to not workout. I plan to try to turn that around. I'm pretty sure that I'm a sugar addict, but I have been doing better at eliminating that from my diet. I'm a terrible journal keeper and fortunate that my Fitbit syncs up with SparkPeople and does that tracking for me... That's the bad stuff! I'm also a very positive person and stubborn enough not to give up on myself... And I'm a dedicated gardener, which brings peace, beauty and exercise into my life! Thanks for welcoming me to the group!

Hi! I just joined the team & tried to introduce myself here but it looks like I've started a new thread instead (this is my first time ever posting to a forum anywhere)? Can you please tell me exactly how to do it? Do I go to the 'Introduce Yourself to the Team' Forum, click 'create new topic' but then leave the topic blank or type 'Introduce... to the Team' on that line?

Thanks for your patience & any help you can offer! Happy & Healthy 2016!

OK, I just posted this reply to the welcome message & it's appearing in the right place to introduce myself. There must be a more straightforward way? My original post (by creating a new topic with a topic title, appears under the forum page, not the topic page (introduce yourself here).

Sorry about the confusion! I really could use the help!

Hi there,
I am into my second year on SP (as of Nov) and have not made much progress. I have made some then back slid and so on. I am currently wrestling with the same 3-4lbs that will put me in the 100s and after that my goal is to lose steadily.
My overall goal is 140.

I walk almost everyday. I have a desk job and walk on my lunch break everyday (5x a week) that I'm here. I have a fitbit and am going to soon be gearing up for running, I've tried in the past but wasn't consistent.

My main goal is to get to a healthy weight and maintain it. I can't tell you how many times I've lost the same 40 pounds but the past few years, I have not been able to keep it off.

My godchild is getting married at the end of June so my secondary goal is to be able to fit into a really beautiful dress. The wedding's in Raleigh so I don't want to be heavy and stuffed into a so/so dress and melting because I am overweight.

I work full time, and am trying to finish a degree program for my bachelors in communication. Stress all around and emotional eating, which I have under control at the moment.

I am very happy to find this team and will plan on joining a challenge in January. Think it might be too late to do anything for December.

emoticon Wish you all a very happy holiday!! emoticon

Hello all. I am glad I am here. It looks like a great team!.

I had lost 95 pounds, but I went up a little after having to add rapid acting insulin. I am now starting to lose again, and am almost back to my lowest weight.

I walk for my main exercise, and also do an at home physical therapy routine, mainly for my lower legs.

I will be adding water aerobics shortly.

I'm restarting SP--changed jobs, computer, e-mail etc. I started out great last time and was really excited then hit some bumps...one being the holidays caused me to lose my streaks.. and physical issues that knocked me off my goals. I'm trying to gently get back in. I had my first challenge yesterday--energy so low I didn't get out of bed until 4pm. But because I had signed up for the walking challenge, I walked. I have a life to look forward to and SP will help me enjoy it.

Hi all I am Shannon and I am from Rockford Mi. I have been on spark people for about nine years I believe. I had lost 100 pounds before our second child was born. Gained about 50 back after and during pregnancy. The older I get to 40 the harder it is for me to lose the weight. I do however attend a gym 5-6 days a week. I workout with a personal trainer two days a week for 30 minutes. I also get in anywhere from 30-50 extra minutes after working out with him. I am working on getting my food choices in check. I am a stay at home mom and volunteer at the school.

Shrinking Shannon from Michigan

2016 I will hit the gym 6/7 days a week. I will eat more protein, fruits and veggies. I will really cut back on the carbs.

Hi. I'm Cher aka PinkLaceHat. I have been very sick for a couple years and now I am having Diabetes problems. I need to exercise and am learning to control the amount of Carbs I eat. My Dr wanted to put me on Diabetic Med but I want t work on diet, exercise and weight loss to control the Diabetes. I have been a diet and exercise controlled Diabetic for over 45 years. So far I have lost 17 pounds. I have 17 more pounds to lose. I joined SparkPeople 3 days ago for inspiration, accountability and support. In 1999 to 2001 I lost 78 pounds walking with my friends everyday and using a 1200 calorie Diabetic Diet. I kept the weight off for over 12 years. Being sick and unable to walk these past 2 years my weight creeped up to 184.

Now I am here and hoping to make a few friends a long the way.

Hi my name is Adrienne and walking's my game. I typically walk at about 15 minutes per mile or 4 Miles per hour. I come from New York City and that is a pretty typical pace for New Yorkers. Now I live in the SF Bay Area but I still am able to walk fast. I started walking in earnest when my company started an incentive program. Anyone who wanted it got a free pedometer and membership in Virgin Pulse. Virgin Pulse awards health miles for steps and other healthy activities. For the last three years I've been able to get $600 a year for completing the Virgin Pulse program.

My current goal is to get 12,000 steps a day. Yesterday was the first night of Hanukkah and I had my family over to celebrate. Between preparing the house and dinner, the shopping etc. I only got 7,000 steps yesterday but I hope to make it up and get an average of 12,000 steps a day this month.

Hey all, I'm Andrea. I just joined this team this morning. I've been with Sparkpeople for a few years, but just getting back to it after being gone all summer. I'm a stay at home mom to a 14 month little boy. I also have two fur babies, and am constantly on the go either chasing them, or cleaning house. Needless to say I'm busy! I am hoping to continue my weight loss. I have lost 32 lbs so far since last december (2014). My goal is to lose another 70ish pounds. My daily activity goal is 8,000 steps a day. I have a counter on my cell phone, just forget to put it in my pocket. So I'll be moving all day long and my phone only shows 300 steps because it's been sitting on the couch all day! Hoping this group will help get me motivated, and help me get those steps in. Excited to meet everyone!

I'm Jonnie, a recently retired college teacher living in SW Michigan, but vacationing anywhere warm for as long as possible during the winters. I have adult children, 2 grand children, and a significant other who shares my love of travel. I practice meditation, perform service in my community and manage my retirement finances to try to foster this lifestyle.

I have been sparking for 4 years. I achieved my goal weight in 2011 and have stayed within 10 lbs of that weight ever since.

My plan is to continue walking and yoga and cutting WAY back on carbs in my diet. Lately, as the weather has gotten cooler, I have been "excusing" myself from walking, and I don't feel good about that. I'm hoping this team will give me some accountability to become regular with it again.

Hello, my name is Carla, I have been with sparkpeople for a long time, but now come daily to talk to my online friends who I had met through ediets. we moved over here because ediets no longer exists. i was invited from homebody and this looked like a good group to get to know and help motivate me.

i am going to do a 5K in the beginning of march and i want to be able to jog a lot of it, so i need to start walking daily, so far the past 3 days i have, and i will today too. sundays will be hard for me because i don't formally exercise that day.

New to the team, joined SP years ago....been MIA and needed to come back to find myself again. I am one year post heart attack. I was lucky as I didn't need any bypass surgery and have a stent. I am beginning my 2nd year with a renewed belief of I can do this. I got this. Sometimes I need help reminding myself of that. Thank you for being an active group

Walking helped me release excess weight in 2010. Now it helps me keep the weight off. I especially love "virtual" walks on famous routes like the Pacific Crest Trail.

At work so can't really do a long intro. I'm a long time on again off again Spark person and about 30 lbs less than my heaviest. Just started using a Fitbit 3 days ago loving it so far. I am in a office chair at a call center 8 hours a day but doing what I can to get 5,000 steps in minimum and working my way back up to what I use to do at one time close to 20,000. I have a knee and back injury that will just not let me walk a consistent long period of time so when I get home at night I will watch tv with my husband and walk in place during commercials.

Ok back to work for me

Hugs and happiness

Hi! I'm new here. I love walking. I teach music at two different schools and I love to walk the hallways before and after school or on breaks. Especially since the weather has just turned bad for what will be the greater part of the next four months, it is nice to know I have a warm, relatively slip free environment to walk in. I also have Walk Away the Pounds tapes and DVD's but I have not been using them lately. I am very excited to join this team and I look forward to meeting all of you!

to our team Danielle. I'm glad to hear that you are now able to start your walking program again. We are all at different levels. We are not competing against each other on the team. We are here to do our OWN personal best. Just remember, small steps lead into bigger ones. All the best to you on your weight loss journey. emoticon emoticon together.

Hello everyone! My name is Danielle and I am so very excited I found you all! I was on Sparkpeople once before and lost 112 lbs! Though I started out on a stationary bike, I moved on to walking to drop the last bit of it. I had only reached a milestone, but was still 56 lbs from my 'goal' when I got sick and ran into some health issues that left me gaining....gasp...72 of those lbs back :(

I struggled over the summer to loose the 26 lbs that I have, and finally said enough of this, I'm going back on Spark :) So here I am!

I am 1 1/2 months post heart surgery (cardiac ablation for SVT), and I know I need to start slow and build myself up. I was so crippled by my fear of my SVT that I didn't do much at all, so I am VERY out of shape at this point.

Today I started the 30 day walk challenge! I signed up yesterday but started the actual walking today. OMG it felt SOOO good!!!! We actually went for 14 minutes or 1414 steps. I know that is not a lot to the vast majority of people here, but for someone who was afraid to walk down 12 steps to get a bottle of water a little over a month ago, that is HUGE!

I look forward to sharing my accomplishments and leaning on you when I have my fallbacks. Success always comes when you have people who support you on your side :)

Danielle ~

Hi I am Rachel. I heard about this team through a lovely sparkmail! I love that you are actively searching to support people! Thanks!!!!

I am a teacher and pretty busy with other jobs that I do. But I have started to enjoy completing 5ks and other walking challenges! Running hurts too much, so I am hoping the walking more frequently can help me shed these pounds!
