Congratulations on getting off to a good start with healthier eating and better control of food before your doctor visit and orientation. Good luck with your future surgery and weight loss.

Good luck, Linda. This challenge should help you learn a lot about how sugar is ruining your life. I would also suggest that you begin working with a psychologist right now, before the surgery. My sister-in-law had the surgery 10 years ago and the hardest part for her was losing her "best friend" which was food. She self-medicated every feeling with food and when that was taken away she truly suffered. The surgery worked for her and she lost almost 250 pounds but was miserable for the first several months because her "best friend" was no longer helping her control her emotions. She never did go to a psychologist and in the last several years she has once again started to gain weight. Now, she is seeing a psychologist who is helping her work through her food issues but she has to find a way to lose almost 100 pounds that have returned. Truly not meant as a negative thought about your decision which I admire you for!

Wishing you all luck, Linda. We all do what we have to do. Just keep tracking all of your food and whatever fitness you can get in. That would be handy and a reminder every day of what you are aiming for. emoticon

Hi there, I am a 57 year old weighing a whopping 297 lbs, and having a BMI of 54.3 At this point in time I am looking forward to having weight loss surgery. But I still have to get it all started with the orientation. With this surgery they may require documentation of a certain amount of weight loss before doing the surgery or even 6 months Dr. supervised dieting, for that reason I am not trying to lose weight at this point. I am trying not to gain anymore. I don't want to reach a platteau or even slow down right after starting to meet the requirements. So basically eating healthier, cutting out the indulgences such as sweets, chips, cutting back on potatoes and bread, etc.
All words of encouragement is welcomed desired even, but please, I really need this surgery, so please don't try to talk me out of it. Thank you all.
