I just joined the challenge because I am a sugar fiend. Candy--mostly fat free stuff is a constant throughout my day. I ditched sugar 7 days ago. Never thought I could do it. I read the book The Obesity Code (Jason Fung MD) which gave me the inspiration and the science behind how sugar affects the body.
I do not plan on giving it up forever, but I it will only be for super special occasions --that' my plan anyway.

Hello, I am joining the sugar challenge. The quiz said I was only situational, but I feel like I like my sugar way more than that! My body doesn't like sugar anymore because of my thyroid disease (I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain... Hashimoto's Disease has ruined that for me :( ) Good luck, Team Mates! emoticon

Hi, my name is Amy. I've had issues with sugar for years, but recently gained back 10 pounds and cannot seem to get my food under control, so I'm working to get the sugar issues back under control. It seems I can never eat just a little bit. The cravings intensify if I eat it. And sugar is, of course, in nearly every food in the grocery store.

I am also in the midst of menopause, and I am told that it will get harder and harder to lose weight if I don't do it now. I am also "prediabetic" ~ not diabetic enough to need insulin, but enough to get headaches.

My 8 year old daughter is also quite addicted to sugar.

So it is really important to me to get sugar out of my diet, and my home.

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals. Henry David Thoreau

Hi Evergreen adn the commmunity at large. I'm, well, earthrunner. I'm addicted to sugar. I have a problem, and I do well 2-3 out of five days a week. What's my downfall? Not drinking enough water. And stress eating at the last minute - the hour before bed. After dealing with the unruly pet,s ometimes. Or when it's that time of the month. I KNOW I can do this, I just always tune out and become complacent. I'm not going to make a huge commitmment. I'm going to take this day by day.

Evergreen, AshleeMicahsMom, welcome to the community. Let's empower ourselves to climb this mountain but focus on the steps. We CAN do this.

Hi Everyone, another sug-aholic here. i hope to first cut out sugar, and then learn (have self control,) to have a reasonable treat and be content. My issue is probably common, in that i tell myself i am going to have something small and then i can't stop. this of course leaves me feeling ashamed of my lack of self control. i tell myself i will do better the next day. i am a working momma with 2 girls (tween and teen.) i don't want to be a poor health example with my food choices, but i also want to show them that you have a treat as long as you are reasonable. that is my challenge! on to day 3 tomorrow

Hello Team!! I find myself constantly saying I need/want chocolate, cookies, chips, etc. I do well with pretty much everything else, I eat plenty of fruits/veggies, stay away from red meat and most dairy, I could do better with my portion sizes, but it's that snacks and the blasted sweets that thwart my weight loss goals. I have found that cutting out diet pop helps tremendously with my cravings. As soon as I start drinking the diet pops I lose willpower so I try my best to avoid those. ANYWAY... I am a single mom, my kids are 13 and 16. Trying my best to model good habits for my 13 year old son, who seems unfortunately to be following in my weight issues. The key to keeping off the 150+ pounds that I have lost is positivity, which can be soooo hard to maintain. I lost the first 100 after bariatric surgery, and have struggled daily for the last 3 years to take off the last 50+ pounds. Here's to a great journey together!!

Hi, I'm Alisha. I love sweets (I love salty, too), so much so that my blood sugar is on the rise. I hadn't thought I was eating THAT much, but it's time I change my habits. I have been logging for over a week now, and feel better already. I am hopeful that this 21 day challenge will give me even more incentive to succeed!
Cheers!

Alisha

Hello, I'm Lisa and just ate my healthy salad, but sure thinking about sweets. I took the test and it said I wasn't addicted to sugar and that I had great control. WOW! that truly was a surprise. I feel great today not eating any extra sugar, and watching what I'm eating to keep the sugar way down or zero. I need to head to the grocery store and usually controlled now that I have had lunch. Otherwise, it would be a snickers bar going into my mouth after shopping. NO MORE SNICKERS!

I'm ready for a serious change, and here to support anyone who needs it. Happy Tuesday!

Hi, I'm Linda and I am a sugar addict
I have tried for years to get past it and just can't win
I overcame alcohol - have been dry for 38.5 years but cannot kick the sugar.
I want my chocolate, my peppermint candies [suck on them for my breath, tummy and to keep mouth moist with some of the meds I take.
I have tried to uses sugarless mints and it is vicious circle - which is worse sugar or artificial???
I just keep working t it and then I get some and I have to start all over again. Grrrr.
Hoping this challenge will encourage me - If it helps I will go through it several times!!!

My name is Charlotte and I am a sugar addict. It prevents me from losing the 20# that I need to lose. I do so good during the day but evenings are my nemesis. Been a struggle every since I quit smoking in 2003. Joined SP about a month ago and found this challenge yesterday. I am pre-diabetic so I really need to get this under control.

On my way.

Hi, I am actually making some great changes. I am eating how I have wanted to for a while. But, the impetus was that I want to try my best to trim down a bit before a banquet, which is coming up in 5 weeks. Now, I am eating mostly non-processed foods and getting more exercise. (I also had a baby 12 months ago, and I am trying to get fitter.)

Hi everyone. I joined a similar challenge a few years back but really need to go through this challenge again. The hardest time for me is just after I leave work and I always look to grab something chocolate or sweet. I give into temptation very easily and don't even try to use any willpower. Looking forward to working on this in the days ahead.

I join this group with trepidation!

It is okay for a couple of days to cut back on all foods and have no treats but Boy OH BOY! Just give me an tiny emotional challenge and away we go with hunting through cupboards, freezer and fridge looking for the sweet and rich plug to tamp the feelings down with. Within 10-20 minutes I need a top up and so it goes on.
So...Can I overcome this cycle of addiction?

Today is day1 of 21

sugar is a huge addiction for me. I gave up refined sugar a while ago (3 years ago) and stuck to it for 18 months. I felt fantastic .. plus my blood pressure dropped significantly. Unfortunately I went on a cruise and decided to have "just one treat" and that was the end of me. I have to think of refined sugar like alcohol for an alcoholic ... there is no "just one" for me. I substitute fruit when I have a sweet craving ... it works although it is easier in the summer than the winter.

I'm a chocolate girl, I love it to the point of crazy maniacal madness. Right now I'm eating raspberries and they are incredible.
So.... Maybe I can change.
Problem is everyone knows I love chocolate. Maybe I should make a shirt and posters that say "I'm in recovery, Please no chocolate" Because I rarely pack a lunch I often use sugary things to pick me up later in the day. I packed a lunch today.
So... Maybe I can change.

Love to all you lovers of things sweet, like seeing kids jump in puddles, old couples kissing and movies with inspiring endings.

I tried this challenge a few years ago when I first joined SP, but I am pretty sure I didn't finish it as I was not really aware of how challenges worked. I figured after a month of holiday baking and eating, this would be the perfect challenge to start the new year. I already caved yesterday to my bad habits (all or nothing-one sweet always leads to many) and I decided to check in on this forum instead of going to the kitchen to cheat because I am feeling the urge right now. Wishing everyone success!

Happy 2016 to everyone!!! I live in Tempe and have been on SP since 2007. As the years tick by it becomes a little hard to maintain a healthy weight and fitness. I am really motivated to stick to my diet/fitness plan and would appreciate any advice/encouragement to stay on track. Sweets seem to be my weakness, especially chocolate. I am on day 2 of the challenge and already have gained some insight into my issues with sweets.

Hello. I am on day 2. I feel like I binge all day long on sweets. What that really says is that I am often unaware of what I am shoving in my mouth at any given moment. The challenge for today is to journal and I am taking that pretty serious. Finding a trigger may help clear up the fog. Glad to be here and for any support. Have a good Holiday Season everyone.

Hi ! I am new to this challenge. I just joined it today. I had been on SP 6 years ago ~really for about 6 mos. ,lost the weight and am now here again as I finally feel ready to tackle the 25 pounds and maintain it once I lose it. I have never taken any challenge and this is my BIGGEST problem is my sweet tooth and my inability to curb it or to have only one sweet. I feel bad that my son has it now, too. I fed him so well when he was age 1, tried to hide the sweet tooth from him at age 2 ,but failed and by age 3, he had the sweet tooth and I had lost the 20 lbs. I was always fighting. I am hoping to learn alot of info from this challenge !

It's really very helpful to see all these posts. I am not alone in this sugar obsession! Sweets are my downfall every time- especially when in an emotional state- and I really do believe it must be as hard to quit as any addictive drug or habit. So, I'm going to try no sugar for three weeks, but allowing myself fruit. I've tried cutting out all before- for a year on a health regimen- which had good results but was extreme. More recently, I've tried allowing fruit only and was amazed that my acid reflux disappeared. In 20 days when this challenge is over, I may just sign up again!

Oh VERNA - you so described me. I am an emotional eater. I get stressed I start to crave sweets. I eat sweets I get MORE stressed because they are so bad for me - so I wind up depressed, bloated, grumpy, and hungry. You would think we would stop doing this to ourselves! Hopefully this challenge will help stop the vicious cycle.

Hi Krista I see you have the same problem I and so many others have. I too can eat sweets until I practically make myself sick and do that for weeks on end. (Did I actually put that in writing? LOL) Crazy thing is I feel absolutely awful, both mentally and physically all the while I am binging. Tired, lazy, depressed---all those negative things. PLUS I get bloated and look like I'm at least 7 months pregnant. I joined SP in June and did very well, had a couple of slips but got back on the program after only a few days and did manage to eat a few sweets in moderation. BUT the cravings started coming more and more often. Seems though that as long as I don't eat the really sugary stuff I am ok. I'm talking cake, ice cream, chocolate bars, cookies etc. Added sugar in foods doesn't seem to bother me - ketchup, spaghetti sauce, bread products etc.

Yesterday was my birthday (and I am no spring chicken) BUT I made the conscious decision to have dessert with dinner (after all the dinner and dessert was free at the local restaurant we went to!) and that was a mistake, I craved sugar for the rest of the evening. I am a year older now maybe I will be smarter this year!! I could go on and on being a drama queen, always complaining about the way I am affected by sugar but the fact is I am ADDICTED to sugar and like all addicts I must stay completely away from the demon. The fact is I cannot eat sugary things in moderation, I need to get that through my thick head and get on with living WITHOUT sugar.

Have a good day everyone, throw some sparks into those sugary things and watch them burn and shout "Burn baby burn."

Hey everyone! I'm Krista and I have major issues with binge-eating. I'm more likely to binge on sweets than anything else. I joined this challenge after a ate an entire bag of Hershey's chocolates at once and didn't even feel stuffed. It's gotten to the point that I crave sweets constantly, but typically end up not enjoying the experience because I eat far too many.

Trying to kick the massing cravings I get so that I can start to enjoy things in moderation. So far I'm enjoying the practical steps in this plan!

Krista

Hi everyone! I come from a long line and wide family of sweet-tooths (teeth? lol!)
I am currently away from home for work until the weekend before Thanksgiving and have hardly any access here to sweets. SOOO I would love to kick my habit before I get home to the holiday never-ending sweets mayhem so I can avoid weight gain this year!
Good luck everyone! emoticon

Hi I am Kathryn from sunny Cal. I love sweets. Have done this challenge but need a booster shot to kick back the habit of eating so many sweets. I joined this challenge this morning and then went to the Dollar store and Starbucks. I don't drink a sugary drink at Starbucks but did today buy a cake pop. Off to the Dollar store where I bought a bag of candy. Home again where I portioned out a small serving of the candy.....lets see how that goes...... emoticon emoticon

Hi, I'm Suzie. I eat sweets when I get emotionally upset and want to escape, also when I watch tv. I don't eat them alone though, my hubby joins in. We both need to get off sugar and lose weight.

If I don't read recipes and food coupon offers and watch tv cooking shows where they are making goodies I do much better. So I guess I also eat sweets if they are visible to me in some way!

I have learned that white flour products also react the same as sugar in your body. So I am trying to stay away from white bread and baked goods.

I usually fail at this and so this time I am concentrating on anything with any type of sweetners added and bread. I am hoping this retrains my brain to say No to sugar through the holidays!

Good luck to everyone on this challenge!

Hi everyone! I eat sweet stuff coz I'm bored or stressed or watching TV or reading or coz I haven't had that specific thing before and want to know what it tastes like... Basically, there's always a reason to eat sweet!

GOTTA CHANGE THIS! And I'm hoping that completing this challenge will be the first step towards controlling my sugar cravings.

Good luck to everyone of us trying to kick a bad habit :)

Hello! I'm Annerie and my goal is to not automatically reach for something sugary when I'm stressed out or tired. My mom was an emotional eater of sweets and I've unfortunately followed in her footsteps. Would love to be able to enjoy a sweet now and then when I'm not stressed out!

The most effective way to do it, is to do it.

I am Karen from Wisconsin. I have had problems with sugar from little on. If I ate 1 cookie I would always want more. I can remember eating sugary foods until I was sick. Luckily, I was very active, and I never was more than 10 or 20 lbs. overweight. When I had my children, I gained with each of my pregnancies and have never been able to lose the weight. I went from the mid hundreds up to the upper two hundreds. Initially I blamed the problem on boredom, lack of will power, etc. However, after going through extensive weight loss interventions and suffering through a lot of stomach issues, I realized that I have to avoid sugary, high carb foods.

I have for the most part experienced success in eliminating many foods. However, I backslide whenever I experience anger, frustration, or disappointment. Unfortunately for me backsliding spirals into a few weeks of eating sugary foods. I am hoping to learn more about cravings for sweets, and alternatives to eating in general.

Just Believe!
