I'm 69, and three years ago this month was diagnosed with breast cancer, requiring chemo and radiation. I have been sedentary all my life and was very fatigued from the treatments, so just sitting was so easy. Then a little over a month ago I was placed on a CPAP machine at night. So I have to get up and get moving.

Hi. My name is Babs. I've been a member of SP for several years. I have not lost a lot of weight but I've made a lot of great friends and found a lot of support and encouragement. So I have learned to accept my 'small' losses as they come and to not focus totally on the scale.

I'm semi-retired, and I'm not very flexible. That tells me I need to 'move it, move it, move it' a lot more than I do. I have started yoga stretches and walking in short increments. I also belong to a gym and enjoy water walking.

I want to be part of this team and 'walk this way' to get me 'moving' in the right direction.

Hello, my name is Holly and I live in St. Petersburg, Florida, a.k.a., The Burg. I have rheumatoid arthrits and a spinal fusion which makes running a big no no for me, so walking it is! My rheumatologist says if I drop 30 pounds It will help my joints significantly and I intend to do exactly that. I'm starting on day 1 today.

Hello everyone, my name is Kristen. I joined this challenge because there was a time in my life when I loved to walk! I walked all the time, all over the place. Since having my first child 7 years ago I have all but given up an activity I loved doing and find it hard to find the time to even get out for a few minutes. I am hoping this challenge will help get me up and walking again, just a little bit at a time.

Hi my name is Terri. I joined this challenge to help me get back on track with a regular exercise routine that became derailed in 2016 due to unexpected family loss and personal injuries. I am ready, willing and able to continue. I miss my daily workouts and walking. I currently am able to walk 8,000 steps without pain due to a sprained ankle in November. It is getting better but longer than that then I get the pain and start limping. This challenge will be a good progression as the ankle continues to heal.

Hey all!

Im 39, mom, wife and love that Walking is an easy, cheap, healthy way to lose the pounds and change my life! I have lost 38lbs in less than 3 months by just walking and eating right. Im from Canada!

Hi, my name is Anna. I have decided to add a fitness goal, long term, so that I keep motivated. Concentrating on just the weight loss will get me frustrated fast!!! Hi, So glad to have found this Challenge. I have been trying to keep track of my steps with walking indoors and out . So far I have averaged 8--10k steps a day but my goal is to average 10-20k a day. Love walking. It is my favorite exercise especially outdoors in nature when the weather permits otherwise I do my walking dvd's. Anything I can do I will do to get my steps in. I also love doing the virtual walks because I am a stay at home mom and barely get out of the house let alone the state. Keeps me motivated .

I am currently a member at results transformation center in Northern California and down 40lbs from boot camp cardio/strength training and healthy eating, for a total of 62lbs loss. Hi I'm Teresa. I'm 54 and very overweight. Started as couch potato now I might be able to walk a hour? I'm here to learn about walking. I still have to "make" myself do it, as I walk, I listen to music and tell myself out loud, all the reasons why I'm doing this. It has really helped me keep going.

Hi, I'm Dawn. I am the mother of two energetic boys age 11 and 8 and two fur babies (cats) who are still kittens themselves at 10 months old emoticon emoticon . I turned 36 earlier this month. I have been in an extremely happy, loving relationship with my bf for almost 5 1/2 years now and hope to soon be emoticon , we have also been unofficially trying for emoticon for a little over 2 years now. Although my biometric screening this year said I was "low risk" for everything but weight, BMI and waist measurement I still want to be healthier for my family......I also want to be able to not shop in the Women's department anymore and be able to buy my bridesmaid dresses for the weddings I'm in next year off the rack without as well as my wedding dress when/if I get remarried.

With it being spring I figured this was a good exercise program that my 11 and 8 year old could join me on.....they love going for walks with me and I've already recruited a friend to come walk with me one to two times a week to help keep me motivated emoticon

I am Patti and I live near St Louis. I put in long hours at a high stress sedentary job and have had the weight gain that goes with it. Have always loved walking and feel like I can commit to and stick with 10 minutes each day even though I hope to exceed that most days. Joining the challenge to hold myself accountable so no excuses. Plus I enjoy the support and camaraderie of others.

The only way we can fail is to give up. Never surrender!

Hi everyone: I am Jo Ann from Texas. I did this challenge once before. When looking for a new challenge, I decided I wanted to rejoin this team and see if I can do a better job this time round. I know walking will help. I am also participating in the 10000 step challenge but am not being consistent. I had a goal of 7500 and I am hitting that most of the time but really want to get to where 10000 steps is the norm and increase the challenge to more steps. Wish me luck.

Hi Team, l would like to loose 30 lbs by May 2016. I'm back to do that. So far l'm on a 5 day streak of walking. I'm also on a 5 day streak of walking for just 10 minutes. That's might be all the minutes l can do tomorrow. Also l was on the treadmill Wednesday. Next week l might be on the treadmill 2 days. Hey, you never know. Hi I'm Sandra. I joined SparkPeople back in 2012 to lose weight and it worked I lost 20 pounds and unfortunately gained 14 that's cause I stopped coming to SparkPeople and stopped running (due to pain in my ankles and shins). Well the word I picked for this year is discipline (and one I keep thinking about is commitment). I want to break out of the habit of not sticking to what I set out to do. So I probably still can't run, I tried in January and got the same ankle shin pains so I have been walking. I joined a pedometer challenge at work which ends on Monday but I want to keep this habit of walking everyday. I've been currently walking for an hour each day and it does make me feel good to be active.

Hello! Today I will start walking at least 10 minutes a day until I can gradually do more. I have a lot to lose and also have spinal stenosis so I'm going to do the best I can and start slow.
