Hi Mickie Sounds like you have chosen a good time in your life to bein learning the lifestyle of Tim healthy Mama - go step by step, day by day and learn what works for you and share the goods and the bads of it - we are all learning and tend to be quite gentle in our approach. I still struggle with keeping my fuels separate after several years of knowing that it all works.

I am pre-diabetic so have to mix in a bit more low carb than is typical for THM but don't let that confuse you. God bless.

Hi all,

My name is Mickie, and I live in north Alabama. I am an 8th grade math teacher.

I dabbled with THM several years ago but wasn't successful with it.

I'm not even sure what made me think about it this week, but I'm rereading the original book and have started trying to wrap my head around the plan and am beginning to plan meals and days.

I am 47 and appear to be going through menopause. It is kicking my butt. I weigh more than I ever have and am on a course to continue gaining.

I like the idea that I can choose and E or S meal and really only need to focus on not combining carbs and fat. I have had success with low carb diets in the past, but they are hard for me to stick with, long-term. There are some grains that my body really likes, and I like that I can have them when I want them on THM.

I'm glad to find a Spark Team focused on THM that is not overwhelming.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Mickie

Welcome Melissa. The plan feels overwhelming at first, until you break it down to the bare basics and build on that as you get comfortable.

1. Anchor every meal and snack with protein. It should be the first question you ask yourself. Where is my protein?

2. Is that protein lean or fat? For example: Chicken breast - lean. Steak or bacon - fat. pick your sides. If you have a lean protein you can have carbs like brown rice, quinoa, berries, various fruits, sweet potato, etc. If your protein is fat choose non-starchy veges to go with it. Keep it simple and straight forward.

Melissa there is a book that covers the basics and goes into the biblical belief that God gave us all foods for our enjoyment. Science has shown that certain "fueling" patterns will actually cause your body to burn off fat naturally by adding protein to EVERY meal and then alternating between the carbs and fats. There is a cheat sheet Linda had posted earlier. I will try to find it and pass it off. You also fuel every 3 to 4 hours. Getting started, I would suggest focus on adding protein to your meals and timing your eating. That in itself takes some getting used to.
The book has a lot of information that goes into how you have eaten historically that may have affected your metabolism as other health issues. I've added the link so you can see the cover of it. For me I have a serious metabolism problem and I do well with this. Better if I was the one cooking all my meals but the majority of my homes meals are done by daughter so it's a struggle but I am able to do breakfast and lunch more in line with my health needs.

Hi Sharri. Welcome. Looking forward to more interaction and learning for all of us. I am so totally convinced this plan has the best of all the diets I have tried and fits my celiac and pre-diabetic diagnoses as well. Jump right in with questions, comments and ideas.

Hello! My name is Sherri and I am a mother of two sons, one a teen and one gone to heaven. I have been flirting with THM off and on for several years, but kept trying and failing other plans. I finally decided to go ALL IN with the THM lifestyle. I am going to box up and donate my other assorted weight loss books and fully embrace the THM way of life. I'm excited to be a part of this team. I wish you a great day!

Welcome Melissa. THM can feel a little intimidating to learn, but once you are familiar with it, it isn't that difficult. I highly recommend that new folks either buy, or check out from the library, the Trim Healthy Mama plan book, or even the cookbooks Trim Healthy Cookbook and Trim Healthy Table. Go to their website, listen to the podcasts (Poddys), start with #1. They are inspiring and filled with information. The sisters get a bit chitchatty, and sometimes - or all the time - they get off on a few rabbit trails, but most often those rabbit trails lead you somewhere wonderful.

So glad to have you with us!

Karina

hi I'm new here. I never heard of THM but interested. Was referred here by a friend and hoping that all will be well. I am a divorced mother of two adult children and I have a grandson. I have family oriented goals and always try to do my best. Of course, weight loss is a goal that I have been dealing with my entire adult life. Just seems frustrating at times because over the years it has crept up on me and the pounds slowly accumulated. The good news is I haven't gained any more since 2005. My spark journey has told a story of ups and downs in weight loss and I just can't seem to get them off. I have Hashimoto's now and its quite a thing to deal with. I will remain positive and hoping to meet some others on this team with similar goals and struggles. Thank you for accepting me with open arms and look forward to participating and meeting all of you.

Welcome Sarah. It's great to have you with us. I'm Karina, 54, 1 daughter - 35, 1 son - 31, 2 grandsons, 10 and 2 (3 next month) and 1 granddaughter - 5, 1 cat and an enormous dog that should really qualify as 2 dogs.

I started THM in January, learned about it last fall and was learning about it for a few months, then jumped in on January 1. I'm an on/off/on/off/on . . . sort of gal. I do great until there is a special occasion, we are eating out, something sounds good, SQUIRREL! Yep, I'm easily distracted. I lost a bunch at first, then tapered off but I feel better physically, my aches and pains aren't as intense, etc., so I count that as a THM win.

Hello! I've been on Spark for quite a while, and I've been dabbling with THM for a few years. Never fully committed though. However, I signed up with a THM coach and we will be kicking off on Monday!

I just turned 40 this summer. I also had two surgeries this summer. The first one was to remove a large "cyst" from my ovary. Second one was a partial hysterectomy because the TUMOR was borderline. It's been a crummy summer, but I'm ready to move on.

Married for 15 years, no kids and 1 cat. emoticon

Welcome and glad to see your intro here as well as the Front porch.
Needing to lose wt brought me to THM - and I have quite a mix of needs - with celiac, diabetes and heart stents - I pretty naturally build all meals on protein - have always figured once I have my protein figured out the rest of the meal comes easy. Then learned to keep carbs and fats into separate meals and separate those meals by 3 hours. Sounds so simple but it is not for me - I am sill day by day learning and erring but also daily victories so let's work on it together!!

Hi!

I am a new member, well, really a returning member. I have stopped and started THM many times- Funny, my Hubby use to say, "Well, I guess we are back on the Fat Happy Mama plan" when we would both cheat! LOL

I am committed to changing my eating plan-I must lose weight to be at a BMI to have hip replacement surgery-My daughter in law is a whiz at THM and has bought me ALL of the books as gifts......bless her heart......

Looking to support others, and receive support! ALL help and suggestions are MORE than welcome! I would say for sure I am a Drive Thru Sue....

Live in Washington State, and enjoying this stage of life, for the most part, that being OLD AS DIRT LOL

Hi Jen and welcome, Looking forward to more activity on this team - though I am the leader, THM is hard for me to stick to - I have too many things in my life to confuse the issues - have cut most sugar, many refined foods and confusing things like that. Wanting to encourage and learn right along with you.

Hi Jen,
Ive been following THM awhile. Not always on plan so havent lost a ton, but, then I didnt need to lose that much. Im still trying. But the plus....I got off metformin (diabetes med). Been off over a year. I have trouble with the timing also. I eat a late breakfast then its time for lunch and I shouldnt have lunch, but hubby...ya da ya da ya da. My grown daughter (mother of five young sons) got me started a few years ago. She is up and down on the plan also. Neither one of us is super overweight...again...shes the mother of five sons (7 and younger). Im just old. LOL (68).
I have found that THM SparkPeople isnt very active. I also follow the 17 day diet group, but havent done that plan since THM. Not much posting there either.
Anyway...good luck.

Not new to SP, but am new to THM. I am from TN and am 46 years old. I will not turn 50 at this weight! I have about 50 pounds to lose.

I have read the book and have checked it out from the library to read again. I am struggling with the concept. I have cut out the white flour and soda(mostly)....have almond flour, coconut oil, and Pyure sweetener. I have made recipes and froze leftovers so I have my lunches covered. I like overnight oats for breakfast. I have a hard time eating every 3-4 hours tho. Looking forward to some support!!

Looking over the introductions and knowing we are a very small team I would like to re-new or update introductions for those here and any new ones who come our way.
I'm Linda, 69, live in North central Washington state - retired RN and Day care provider for 25+yrs. Daughter introduced me to THM with the plan and recipe books a couple of years ago but have never fully come on board - convinced it is a good plan and good recipes and on going learing through their weekly You Tube "Poddies". When the former leader suggested I take leadership I was reluctant - am just a fellow traveler on the road to better health - Lets live and learn together.

Hello All!! I am Amanda from Texas. I have been on THM for 1 1/2 weeks and am really enjoying it so far -- it certainly seems very doable (and, dare I say, even enjoyable!). I am still sorting out a few things, though, so I am looking forward to learning more from this group. :-)

Hi! I'm Famie, short for Euphemia. I'm a semi-retired 57 (58 in a few weeks) old. I just started THM on Jan 10 and got my books yesterday. The scale is already moving so I guess I'll be one of those quick start-slow down types. I have had issues with my weight all my adult life. I spent almost 4 years in the Marine Corps and even then had to watch everything I put in my mouth. No more! I'm so tired of obsessing over food. I'm trying to keep it simple on this plan and have dragged my Pudgy Hubby along for the ride. A friend started this plan last August and has lost over 46#. She has Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromialgia and is only 33 and is a homesteader. She and her family raise most of their own food. This way of life has really made a difference for her. I hope for the same.

I am the Universe.

I've followed the 17day diet on Sparkpeople. I've done well, but am finding it hard to get back on plan, after gaining back 8 of the 18lbs. that I lost two yeas ago. My 31 year old daughter (mother of 4) has talked me into THM. I've bought the new "Plan" book, the cookbook, the protein powder which I just got today. And have ordered the baking blend and peanut flour. I'm excited about this, but of course, worried I will eat the wrong things. I actually started yesterday and only on page 29 of the book. Lots to learn, but glad to be able to be on this team as I do not do Facebook. I'm a 66 year old retired art teacher...not too overweight, but enough to want to lose some weight. Also diabetic (heredity and past prednisone user).

Hello! Just introducing myself to commit to checking in here. ;) I've been on and off Spark for years, and am in LOVE with the Trim Healthy Mama way, though am just restarting. Hoping that combining the two will be good for me, just in terms of somewhere to log what I'm eating (not so much to be worried about calories). Looking forward to getting to know others!

I have been in the process of losing weight/changing my lifestyle since January 1, 2016. I am down 36 lbs. I am somewhere between being proud that I haven't given up and being incredibly disappointed that I've only lost that much in almost a year. I started with just general tracking calories & going to the gym. In June I started attending Camp Gladiator (amazing bootcamp that I love). About that same time I started on THM. The first month the weight just fell off me. I can't seem to get back on track with it though. So I came here hoping for some support. I've come too far to stop now.

Hi everyone!!! I am Stephanie and I ordered my THM book and cookbook yesterday! I have a couple of friends working the program so I am hoping to get a jump start and dive into the plan on Monday! I have been walking 10,000 steps a day M-F for 7 weeks, today marked the end of week 3 back at the gym before work so now it is time to tackle the healthy eating portion of my get healthy plan! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Okanogan is such a beautiful part of WA! And my husband and I were just there in April. We have relatives there. Ever hear of the Thornton's? My cousin Kathy is married to Dennis. I know if would be kind've unreal if you knew them, but I can't help but ask, because it is a small town feeling too! Apples, apples and more apples, are all over in that area. Yum!

Good luck to you!! emoticon

Hi Karen, I live in the beautiful Okanogan valley. 25 miles south of the Canadian border right on Highway 97. Tonasket. was born in Omak, went to school in Tonasket and took nurses training in Wenatchee - was gone several years of adventure, Air Force, failed marriage and one more year of college at Seattle Pacific College before returning to my roots here. Married, raised our two children and many others as I had in-home day care for 26 years and now retired to our home just 6 miles north of where I lived most of my growing up years!!

Looking forward to losing the weight I have carried since the children were born 35 years ago.

Hi ladies! My name is Tessa and I have been happily married to my high school sweetheart for almost 14 years. We have four beautiful daughters (12, 10, 7, and 6) and a Noah's Ark of animals. :) I have been doing THM for just under two months and have lost about 12 pounds since I started. It continues to come off steadily and I am loving it! My weight crept up slowly after the birth of my youngest and after trying calorie counting, cutting out carbs, etc, I came across THM. I am hoping to lose another 19 pounds, but not sure I need to drop quite that much. Will play it by ear I guess. This is the only eating plan I can sustain... it is just so easy and so good!

On my way to the best shape of my life... care to join me?

Welcome, Karen!

I think you'll really like the THM plan. Getting sugar out of my diet has really helped reduce arthritis pain. When I slip up and "treat" myself with a sugary choice, I usually suffer the consequences!

We're glad to have you on board!

Hi there and I'm new to the team. I'm Karen and looking to really dig into this way of eating for life, and get more healthy. I stumbled across THM on Youtube and have done some research and then have found this team here. I've been on SP since 9/11 and initially lost 70# and slowly, with life getting in the way and Rheumatoid arthritis and powerful weight gaining meds., I've put most of it back on! I'm 5'2" and 206# this morning, and I know I need to turn this around. I've lost my motivation with being so full of pain and not being able to move like I used to, but the meds. are helping me more and more, so I have that going for me now. I'm looking for a lot of help and guidance because this does seem really confusing. I want to know how I can simplify it.

Hi! My name is Jenn I am not 29 years old. I have about 71 pounds to loose. I have been big most of my life. I`m 5 foot 2 and 201 pounds right now. I've always said I want to be healthy for the future but that has never really motivated me.
I discovered THM through a friend at church in April 2014 and been loving the "food freedom" ever since emoticon

Hi Team!

My name is Hattie, I live in the St Louis area, Illinois side. Originally from Iowa, and Wyoming. I have been married for 14 years, and have 2 kiddos, 3 dogs and 1 cat.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, before that I had about 50 lbs to loose to get to a healthy weight of 150. A crazy life occurred and now I am 115 away from that healthy weight. I have been a member of SP for 4 years, and while it worked for a time, at one time I was down 30#'s, it was too different from my life. In April I came across the THM article in Woman's World, what I read made sense, soooooooo I made the soup. We loved it!! Next day I went out and purchased both the plan book, and the cookbook. I read it in 3 days, then started putting it into action. In the 1st week, I lost 7lbs---then we went on vacation. and it was hard to stay on, since I didn't know the plan enough.

But here I am still plugging away. I have a few go to's that are making it easier for me;

Mufflets--with ham and spinach
Banana Cake
Zucchini Cake
Swiss Bread
Hamburger Salad.

That's me----Hattie

Thank you for the encouragement, Trudy. I've got raging metabolic syndrome right now, nearly every carb seems to make me want more in a mindless search that I spend all day trying to resist. I think from reading the book my best bet is to stick to the low carb with a Higher carb snack once a week with a less reactive carb source. From experience that means no bananas, grains or baking starches. Potatoes don't bother me in small amounts like half a small one, Sweet potatoes are to sweet, I think. although if I used a tiny bit as the sweetener with a fiber source it may work. I know the search for treats is a serious problem for me but I've got to get this metabolic syndrome worked out.

I'm thinking if I stick to the low carb and get used to making regular meals and snacks and even desserts that are on the "S" side. then if/when my metabolism starts to respond I can start to add in more carbs.

right now if I add a carb meal or it takes me 3 days to get my weight down to where it was before the splurge and then I'm back at it. LOL THAT gets me no where. so I'm excited to get some new ideas to get control of this.

Thank you Phyllis! I found it through interlibrary loan, but if I need to access it again after I have to return it (july 15) then I'll see you have it figured out.

My friend is offering me the loan of the first book, since she's ordering this Plan book for herself to replace it. but I just want to learn what the general guidelines are, and copy some recipes that might get me over the hump when my hubby starts gorging every evening or when they have lovely desserts at church functions.

I'm interested in making low carb satisfying desserts, but I'll tell you I got inspired a couple days ago and made a low carb gumbo that my hubby and I loved. to bad, it's gone now except for a lunch sized portion, but I'm going to have to write that down for when we experience some food fatigue. that was yumm.

Welcome kitty! As soon as I figure out the lending I will message you. Until then checkout Pinterest..search THM or Trim Healthy Mama..several excellent boards with great summaries to the THM plan. I am not diabetic. But family history puts me at risk which is one big reason I chose THM plan.

Hi, Kitty. Welcome!

THM should be just the thing to help you get your carb cravings under control. You might be able to eat a few more carbs eventually, as long as they are the right carbs...and not the sugary/starchy foods that hurt you.

The thing I like about THM (that makes me able to stick to this plan) is that you can have sweets that are not carb-laden. Denying the need for sweet treats has always been my downfall when trying to follow other plans!

You do need to eat some carbs (E-meals) to keep your body guessing, and to balance your nutrients, but your carbs will be small, healthy servings of oatmeal or brown rice...or a juicy apple. You can work up to that. You will soon be saying "I don't want that" instead of "I can't have that" when you come face-to-face with those harmful carbs.

I'm glad you've joined us!

THM_DEB, thanks, I guess I"m thinking of what I've been reading on the different boards, you know, bread, corn, Bananas,

I'm hoping to get some help with variety without going over around ten carbs per meal . that seems to be all my body can handle. I'm very carb sensitive. especially grain, which makes my hands burn, makes me sleepy and gives me a rash. all carby foods make me sleepy and fatigued so I try to stay under 30 a day. but I HAVE to get a handle on the binging. it's so unhealthy so, I've got hopes. LOL

Hi Kitty, THM is not a high carb plan, the opposite really. No white flour or sugar is in any of the recipes. Stevia and other on plan sweeteners..there is no depriving oneself of sweetness.

Thanks for joining..

Hi, I'm KittyF. i haven't read the book yet, I'm a diabetic who's been maintianing my (high) weight for 8 years. every time I stick to my plan for more than three days I give in to carb cravings and crash.

I'm not sure if THM will work for me because high carb foods, though I love them and seem to be unable to avoid them, cause my carpal tunnel to burn, and make me sleepy to boot. EXHAUSTED sleepy. depending on what I eat and how much.

I joined to see if there were at least some recipes I could use to short circuit the carb cravings and supply the sweet cravings I seem to give in to most and maybe give me some ideas to have around for potato chip time. Hubby brings home and eats whatever he wants while we're watching tv and Mostly I stick to pork rinds but I love those potato chips. LOL

anyway, I NEED to lose the weight, I NEED to get a strong body, and I NEED to find a way to be in control of my self. my cravings and my emotions.

Phyllis if you'd PM me I'd love to borrow your book. I can't find it anywhere. thanks.

I joined SP and the THM Team 10 days ago, I failed to introduce myself at that time - but, I welcome anyone to read my home page introduction. In brief, I am 46 - Happily Ever After Married mother of 21 year old daughter and 28 yr Stepson. Several years of battling personal issues, events - that I allowed to effect my Physical, mental and emotional health - took several steps last year to completely go 100% alcohol free (July 14,2015) quit smoking (Dec 5, 2014)..But I still had issues that weren't being resolved - and physical injury this past November - December - were finally a wake up call - I had to make even more drastic changes. So, here I am - reading to you my secret diary pages - chapters I never showed anyone or read outloud to even allow myself to hear for way too long - My book is open and I'm ready to write a new chapter - a new ending - with me as the heroine!

Welcome, Jean!

This is an amazing program. It actually works! And it's something you can stick with long enough to see lasting results! I highly recommend the plan book. It will give you a good understanding of the program. You can find plenty of recipes online, so the cookbook is not a must to get you started...though it is nice to have. You can sometimes find the original book at your local library, and there are a lot of good recipes there, too!

You will find that a lot of us are grandmas! This works regardless of age.

Hi I have just joined here and am still reading the book, and enjoying it.

I do not have to do things perfectly for God's approval

Christian Theology is relecting on and articulating the God centred life and beliefs that Christians share as followers of Jesus Christ, and it is done in order that God may be glorified in all that Christians are and do "Soli Deo Gloria"

Thank you Debbie & Trudy. I'm glad you found us and I know there's a learning curve with THM but, you will be in a place soon that it will all click and it will be second nature to you.

Charlie,

I did Whole30 and lost 12 pounds...but I was really white knuckling at the end! When I was able to "reintroduce" eliminated foods, I reacted badly to almost everything! Longest 30 days of my life!

Charlie, I have been doing Medifast since October. You eat 5 meal replacements a day and one lean and green for a total of six meals. You eat every 2-3 hours. I still have several meals left that are too expensive to get rid of so I guess I'll be using them occasionally until there all gone. I noticed the that some had sugar added and others had sweeteners not approved by THM. I'm reading the THM book now trying to apply the plan to my meals to most of my day as I learn it.

Hi Trudy & Debbie,

If y'all don't mind me asking, what was the stricter plans you were on before you joined THM?

I'm way past post-menopausal , I had a total histometry when I was 28. Just curious.

Hi, Debbie,

Like so many others, I have lost weight on other, stricter plans, but after about a month it becomes clear that life cannot go on that way! I have been on THM since February 26, and I can see myself being able to sustain this to goal weight and beyond. This plan is absolute genius. It works for post-menopausal me...and that's saying a lot!!!

Welcome. I'm sure you will have success with THM. Please be an active part of our community!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I've been on a very strict plan since Oct 2015 and lost 73 pounds but I can't live that way forever. I have to find something I can live the rest of my life with and I am hoping this is it. I still have as much to lose as I have already lost but I am ready to slow that down. I have been reading the book and can't say I understand it but am ready and willing to learn. I am not a cook either so it will be interesting for sure.

Hi Debbie, welcome indeed! I was at the point of no return, I just couldn't do another diet that I had to count points or calories..I was done..

I have been on this plan for a year and loving it.....no reason not to lots of great foods.

Please check out pintrest for some great pics and recipes, just search THM or Trim Healthy Mama..

I've learned a lot from all over the place.

Welcome!

Deb
