Hi Marti,

I just read what you wrote on the IE team. I was also born in 1952, do crafts, love all animals but my heart melts for cats. With all these similarities I would like to friend you if you accept friends.

I just finished the book Intuitive Eating and one acquaintance decided to form a weekly group after the New Year. Eight of us women will meet weekly after the New Year and share our experiences with the book and food.

I have no problem finding hunger, fullness is my problem. I either do not eat enough or I eat too much. I also am never sure about snacks.

Just read intuitive eating and it is what I have been trying to figure out on my own for years and years. I was very excited about it. I see this is not that active of a group, but hopefully that will change???

Welcome back to SP! Yes, it's a fairly unactive group but keep posting and invite others if you find anyone that may be interested! :)

Hi! I also hope this group is still active. I started seeing a nutritionist who does intuitive eating. I have learned so much! I still struggle a great deal but applying the things I've learned about mindfulness to eating and so many other areas of my life have made a huge difference. I was on SP awhile ago and quit for awhile. But I'm back now because I miss the community (so easy to feel alone in this). emoticon

Hi all,

I am the current Team Leader and am working on keeping the team active - it's no small feat unfortunately. Intuitive eating is not so popular on a site focused on calorie counting.

I first learned about intuitive eating about 5 years ago when I found a book by Geneen Roth. Her work still speaks to me at an emotional level but is hard for me to transfer to my day-to-day life. I started reading more about IE last year after getting frustrated with calorie counting. Yes it results in weight loss but it also resulted in me becoming a binge eater!

I am passionate about activism of all sorts, especially anti-corruption. I'm in grad school studying Democracy and Human Rights. My hobbies include traveling, hiking, shopping, reading, exercising, and watching films.

I'm at a stage where I am keeping a daily food journal and I hope to learn to eat intuitively. Before my latest foray with IE, I was binging up to twice a week. I've cut that down to 1-2 times a month at most. I am an emotional eater and am practicing the exploration of non-food avenues in dealing with my emotions.

I've been on SP since 2007. I lost 80 pounds before it piled back on. Calorie counting is not a long-term strategy for me.
I was born 3/6/1987 and today is my 29th birthday :D
My favorite food is coffee, if I had to choose one and if you consider a drink a food!

Hi People,
My name is Cindy and I am joining this group. I have been on Spark many many years. I originally joined to lose weight, big surprise I know, then that changed from wanting to lose weight to wanting to become purge free. I had been bulimic for close to 30 years. I was able to quit purging completely YAY~ but ended up gaining a bit of weight. With permission to eat came a lot of binge eating, which while I was trying to quit purging was alright.
In my quest to lose weight, I have tried many diets, which seem to trigger such intense deprivation that I end up binging for awhile before I decide to quit the diet. If I am going to be heavy I want to achieve body acceptance and eat in a normal way. I am finished dieting, compulsively exercising and any other extreme measures. I recently read "Big Girl" by Kelsey Miller and I highly recommend it. I want to spend the rest of my life exuberantly living life. Too much of it has been squandered thinking about, obsessing about or mindlessly eating food, or demeaning myself. I am done with that and I am here to learn and grow.

Hi Donna, Good to meet you. There's something else we have in common... our weight. I've been see sawing five pounds over and then five pounds lower than 202, but I'm trying not to pay much attention to the scale. Making peace with food, and being healthy are much more important to me now. And Balance!

Take care of yourself!

Hi Marti,
I feel that I have a lot in common with you! I love animals and love to paint and any other creative outlest. I actually was looking to see a group that like "Women, Food and God" as I feel I can't do this alone. Thanks for recommending the other books. I will look into them.I know I am an emotional eater and really would like to find balance. I also was born in the 50's! 1958. My daughter is getting married in August and we want to "shed for the wed." LOL Have a great day. donna

Hi,
I am a former Spark Person and always loved the site. I am hoping this will be an active team so that we can support one another. I was looking for a team not too big and not too small that wanted to curb emotional eating and eat for better health. I like the idea of intuitive eating!
I am a mom of two daughters and Nana of two. I am a special education teacher. I love getting to know people, reading, theater, movies....mostly sedentary activities. emoticon I have always loved sweets and junk food and whatever is easy to grab. I want to have balance in my life and more energy. I have found in the past, that one of the best ways to lose weight was to write down what I ate...to be mindful of it. I would like to lose about 50 lbs. Can you encourage me and I will encourage you!

I'm Marti - I joined this team a few months ago, but there hasn't been much activity here.

I first learned about IE in about 2002 from Gwen Shamblin who wrote the The Weigh Down Diet. I was excited about the concept but couldn't handle the religious spin she put on it.
Next I found Geneen Roth and read a few of her books.
I've swung back and forth on a pendulum between seeing my problems with food as an addiction that requires me to abstain completely from entire food groups - to the IE thinking that I can learn to be a "normal" eater. I've recently read Triboe & Resch's Intuitive Eating, followed by Eat What You Love -- Love What You Eat for Binge Eating by Michelle May PD. I must say that May wins my vote for the best at directing a path towards sanity.

I'm passionate about my love of animals - especially cats, and the beauty of nature.
My hobbies include all things arts and crafts. I particularly enjoy doing portraits of pets in various media.
I started with Spark People in 2008 but I go through phases of inactivity with it.
My DOB is 7-6-52

I pretty much love all food and I can't really narrow it down to one favorite thing.

Hi there! I joined the team yesterday. I have been dieting and exercising off an on for over a decade, but most seriously the last two years. I have managed to lose 50 pounds in that time with cleaner eating and mostly walking. For the past month I've been taking classes on mindfulness, to help me handle some stresses concerning some health and recovery issues I've had this year. Through practicing mindfulness I've become more aware of how unhealthy my relationship with food had actually gotten, despite what I had convinced myself to believe. I'm also studying to become a health coach, and discovered the intuitive eating book over the weekend, and decided that I don't want to diet anymore, I just want to have a healthier lifestyle. Health and fitness have become passions, hobbies, and part of my hopes, through my own personal journey to get well. I want to continue growing, and help others in their journeys too.

I have been with Sparkpeople a few different times over the years, but never consistently.
My birth month is November, and I just turned 30 this year.
My favorite food... I guess I'd have to say I really love my moms enchiladas! 😊

Welcome to the team!

I think that Intuitive Eating is very different from 'programs' like Paleo and low carb and such... it is not really a program but a way of dealing with yourself, with your body and the signals it gives, and with life!

The book 'Health at Every Size' gives a lot of interesting information regarding (among other things) intuitive eating. To be honest I think that in the long run it is paying attention to our feelings of hunger and fulness that will 'save' us from a lifelong struggle with food and maybe, weight.

Hi intuitive eaters,

I have been on spark people about a year and a half. I lost weight with healthy meal planning and exercise in 2010 with the use of another support site but have had a hard time maintaining my weight. I gain and loose the same 10 pounds over and over again. Since I am short I can bounce between 3 different sizes. This past year I tried low carb diets and a low carb paleo approach and had success (like usual). When life got chaotic in April I began to gain the weight back and here I am in July ready to try something completely different. I am reading the book, "Intuitive Eating" after reading "Eating with Joy" and I am jumping in and trying to follow my hunger cues. Otherwise I eat whatever I want. My 15 year old daughter has told me that this is the worst idea I have ever had. I am hoping that it is the last diet related idea I ever have. emoticon

I'm Christina... I'm Dutch, I live in The Netherlands. I have had struggles with food and weight since I was very young. At some point after a lot of yo-yoing I found the books by Geneen Roth. I liked what I read but when I tried to act on her guidelines (eat what you want!) I got into binges on brownies that lasted for days. That scared me too much to continue. Before I read Geneen's books I'd already tried for a few days to 'eat only when hungry' but not having any information or guidance I concluded that it was not doable.

Years later I found the work of Marna Thall, who studied the habits of the 'naturally thin' and wrote about that. She too says to eat when hungry and she offered me a lot more clarity (than Geneen ever did). I tried following the advice but found it very hard, and abandoned it again.
At some point, also because of events in my life, I started to develop a binge eating pattern.

In the past weeks I have been reading the book 'Health at Every Size' by Linda Bacon and I feel she offers a lot of insights that may help me to continue to learn to 'listen to my body'.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about 'the use of dieiting' and given that there seem to be statistics that say that only 5 % or less manages to keep weight lost off, at the moment it seems to make more sense for me to accept my size and focus on good health.
And really, no matter how we eat or what we do with food, would it not be good to learn to listen to what our body is telling us about it's needs?

I've been at SP, using different accounts, since 2012.

My passions and hobbies involve writing, reading, 'healing', emotional expression, massage, yoga and meditation.
I was born 2/16/1965.
My favorite food... hmmm.... I am very fond of chocolate, but it is not my friend. A favorite food that IS my friend are fruits like cherries and plums.

Hi! I just joined the group today! emoticon

I learned about IE about 5 years ago when I had HAD it with dieting and the nonsense that goes along with it. I am all about balance and moderation as primary focus and living a life based off of habits. I do track my calories but I have IE in the forefront of my eating. I find that counting at the moment helps me with my goals.

I am an avid reader and a HUGE Stephen King fan (hence my profile pic) emoticon I do enjoy working out and find that as a cathartic experience.

I have been a long-time member of SP. Originally I came to SP in '07 and left for a brief stint and came back.

My b-day is Feb 26 -- Pisces through and through.

I love ALL THE FOOD emoticon lol but I think my most favorite would have to be avocados!! YUMMO!!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!!

It would be nice to know a little more about you!

So if you like, share a little... here are a few questions to get you started:

How and when did you learn about intuitive eating? What are your passions? Your hobbies? Your hopes?
How long have you been at SP?
What is your date of birth?
What is your favorite food?
