emoticon Lorelei! I'm working on improving my sleep habits, too. Last night I managed to go to sleep before 11:30, so maybe I'll be able to get my sleep pattern back on a normal track.

Welcome Akasha! I also was on SP before and returned last June, "loaded for bear" in order to stay off Lipitor. The resources and support on SP are incredible! One year later, I am in better shape than I was at age 22. I don't dare wander away from SP, as I don't want to lose my focus.

My name is Akasha. I've been on SP before but left when I had some personal issues and gained weight and gave up. My daughter and I joined a gym last Monday (5/25) and have set our goals for what we want to accomplish. We are each others support team. :)

CINDI -- Welcome! I think that assisting parents in their decline shows us how much we really have matured, while also challenging us to the max. I admire you for taking on a nursing degree program. As I considered becoming a personal trainer, I realized that my biggest impediment was the lack of a biology lab course. That made me think to beware of the courses or experiences I would try to avoid like the devil, for I may rue that lazy decision later.

APHELI -- I do indeed imagine how my body is appreciating the foods I eat. Do you (or anyone) recall the TV show, "Herman's Head"? Well, I imagine what my internal organs have to say about what I eat, and they have conveyed to me that cleaner eating has made their lives much easier. With the normal American diet, the organs have to be like trash collectors: "What am I supposed to do with this #&!*, this was not in my job description!"

BERNIE -- Be on the lookout for blogs that resonate with you, and check more on that person's SparkPage for similarities with yourself. You might also think about writing a blog asking for advice, and let people find you.
- No matter what one's age, it is wise not to overdo exercise, but to challenge yourself a bit more as you proceed.

Hi all, My name is Bernie, I'm from Ireland. I started my weight loss journey in January 2015 where I have received a 10kg weight loss but I have found the past couple of week I am struggling with continuing my journey. I have joined sparkpeople in hope to meet people who are on the same journey who can share motivational tips and advice to aim to achieve my overall goal. I don't have a very exciting life story, im married with two young children my last pregnancy was extremely difficult I ended up suffering with SPD,PGP and went from being an active mother to not being able to move, walk, dress myself look after my child. I am finally 8 months over the pregnancy and completed 6 months intensive physio but I've finally got my mobility back and im walking 6 out of 7 days per week. the fear of a relapse is always lingering on my mind so don't over do it with the exercise. I do aim to try a palates class soon that's my next step. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi Apheli and thanks for the kind welcome! I used to be a teacher. I taught grades pre-k through 8th. I gave up teaching when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. While taking care of her and my dad, I got the nursing bug of all things! I've gotten all of my pre-req's done for nursing so far. Now I'm just waiting to get in to the program. I must say it was a bit daunting to be the oldest in the class, but it was fun as well. I became the class "mom" as the kids in the class were pretty much the same ages as my children who were also attending college at that time.
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome! I hope we can support each other on this journey to health!

Hi Cindi and welcome from a fellow newbie! How wonderful that you're returning to school. I teach online courses for a mostly-traditional university, and I have to say that the Nursing students and the returning-after-a-'few'-years students are two of the most driven ones in my classroom. I wish you luck when the time comes!

Kate: thank you so much for the warm welcome! I'm finally on a set of medications that have my body behaving mostly like it should, so now I just need to work on breaking the stay at home habit. And I love how you think about your nutrition! I've been telling myself that if my taste buds are the only parts of me that like a food, I probably shouldn't eat much of it.

emoticon Ang! I'm sorry that you must deal with that challenge, but SparkPeople can help you develop more healthy habits. If you follow the Ben Franklin approach, you work on one new habit a week. The focus helps you make that habit stick, and you're less likely to burn out by doing too much at once.

I boil down my nutritional goals to: Eat foods I like that like me back.

Hi everyone! I'm Ang, 30, originally from NYC and hoping to move back this year if all goes well. I've been largely housebound for the last 2 years because I developed a movement disorder that means I shouldn't be on the road. All that time home alone didn't help with my mental state, and I've managed to emotionally eat my way into being too big for all my old clothing! I'm on some new medications to help with my conditions and like Shannon I'm hoping to use this summer to get back on track to a healthier lifestyle.

I won't be likely to hop on a scale for a while, but I'm sure this site will still be a great help anyway. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and help support you in your journey forward if I can!

Hi all! I'm Robin,44 from Revere, MA. I am the mom to 2 wonderful (most of the time) boys. Terrell is 12 and Jayden is 7. I work for a medical supply company as a customer service rep. This means I spend a lot of time sitting. I am really trying hard to get more active and healthy. I bought a FitBit Flex to help with that. So far so good with the getting up and moving.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and getting healthy together.

Michelle, teaching is so much harder these days. It's a good idea to lose excess weight if you are likely to become diabetic. I was diagnosed with cancer, not due to any family history, but only linked to excess weight. I, too, was worried that diabetes would be the next issue i would have to face.

Even though it takes a plan and follow-through to lose weight, I am sure you are capable of it.

My name is Michelle and I am in my early 40s and have 65lbs I would like to lose. I have never had great success but as my daughter put it, "Losing weight is your new job, mom." So true. Teaching high school students and building a student organization from scratch has taken its toll on my increased waistline. I am committing to this because I don't want the diagnosis of diabetes soon. My fun challenge for myself right now is that I am learning to drive a school bus and semi. I do my best when my mind is challenged.

I'm Shannon, not new to SparkPeople, but renewing my commitment. A few years ago, I joined SP, lost 85 pounds, and was in amazing shape. Life happened, and major depression / job stress / life stress happened, and now I'm not only back to where I was before I started, I'm at the heaviest I've ever been in my life with the exception of when I was pregnant with my daughter. I've just left a teaching position that ended up really sending my health spiraling, so I'm using this summer to refocus on me, and to start the long road back to a healthier me. This week is my recommitment week - I'm looking forward to meeting new people and finding friends on this same journey!

Sandy, thanks for popping in!

FSUNOLESGIRL, yes, it does feel great not to take Lipitor. But this spring the big surprise was that my nutrition and fitness had also reduced my body's overall inflammation, and as a result, I have had very few problems with seasonal allergies -- something that negatively impacted me for 40 years!

Welcome to SparkPeople, WLLBDG, and welcome back MYADVENTURE2FIT and FSUNOLESGIRL!

There is a lot of information on this site, and lots of ideas to try. I recommend that you start with one or two healthy habits, and set short-term goals that you are 90% confident you can achieve. Then in a week or two, you might add a new habit. Don't make the process so challenging that you burn yourself out!

I go for 80% compliance on my diet, so I don't need to slap myself if I screw up now and then. During the past year, I brought my cholesterol and blood pressure down, so I don't need to take medication for them.

Hi! I am also a returning sparker! I am 5'8 and current 248 lbs. My short term goal is to lose 28lbs. Intermediate Goal is 200, and long term is 160.

I live in Central FL. My motivation is to avoid a diabetes diagnosis, and to feel good about myself again. I am a stress eater, and have had plenty of stress in recent years. Excited to get back with SparkPeople, and help motivate each other!

Welcome Hallee and Lauri! Thank you for introducing yourselves!

Halee, I returned to SP last June after a break during which I regained 30 pounds. emoticon Now I'm in the best shape of my life, but I'm sticking around to make sure I maintain my current weight.

Lauri, There is a Diabetes team, have you signed up for the newsletter? Although I have never been diagnosed with diabetes, my probability of acquiring it goes up every year. I follow some advice from Oprah a long time ago: I eat as if I were diabetic, and maybe I will never trigger an insulin crisis!

Hi team. I'm Lauri, 54 years old and 225 lbs. I was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago but have not changed anything with my diet. I don't know why I am having such a hard time with this. My doctors don't have me checking my blood sugar at all yet, and I think this has prevented me from taking this seriously. I also have back and hip problems so exercising can be quite painful. This gets me depressed which leads to more eating. I'm hoping your support will be the nudge I need. I look forward to getting to know all if you. emoticon

emoticon and emoticon to SparkPeople. This is a wonderful website full of information, useful tools, and supportive people. Use this thread to introduce yourself. You can say as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing.

My name is Kate. I am 66 and retired. I live in Joppa, Maryland, just northeast of the Baltimore beltway, with my husband of 17 years and my Portuguese Water Dog named Lucy McGillicuddy. At my highest, I weighed 190 pounds. I have lost about 65 pounds since then, some on my own, but most with SP. I stay active on SparkPeople to maintain my weight (when I left for a few years, I gained 30 pounds back! emoticon ).

I'm looking forward to getting to know you, helping you with any questions you may have, and offering suggestions of how to get started. Please introduce yourselves. You can either "reply" to this thread of hit the "create a new topic" button to start your own thread.
