7/30/18 fasting 164 mg/dl
8/01/18 fasting 147 mg/dl

Why it is so? But regardless why? I have to deal with it, and only way I do know is - add more units of insulin in injection. So I did it. Now sugar back to normal.

Very often some diabetics pathetically post: I do have diabetes, but diabetes does have me!
I am not so ignorant or pathetic. I just try to do my best and keep my high numbers withing normal range.

121 FBS Low for me. Only high reading I get all day is first thing in the morning. Doctor is not concerned as my A1C is always under 6. Apparently it's a thing for some people to have high fasting sugars.

57 mg/dl today
I feel 'low' today. Probably it is too little to eat for today. I do have cherry and chicken and coffee. The border between 'normal' and 'low' is so tiny. I thought 100 mg/dl is 'normal' but the fact is, it is too high. And 60 looks too low. So, tonight I skip bed time dose of injection. Will see tomorrow what sugar would be.

130 mg/dl today.
Yesterday before bed it was 49 mg/dl. Too low for me.I have fear of lows. So, I did not have stomach to take second insulin shot. Is today 130 resulted skipped shot? Or it is result of Low sugar? I do not know. It is all the time so different with Insulin.
It is rainy in NYC. When it is rain, sugar usually going up.
Another problem for me is, my Bi POP is broken. It is only two years, and it is broken. My old C POP worked 5 years, and was good. I stopped to use it because of I got Bi Pop. Now because of this I have very severe headache at night. I need to take Excerdin every night two or three times 4 tablets each time. Only this help me to deal with pain.
OK by now till next time.

fasting 66 today.
week on lake George was fantastic.
Dose of insulin started to drop. It is less then 400 now. I do not know how long it would drop and how low it will drop. It is all the time not predictable. But right now this is it.
We spent time on water, on our inflatable boat. It was sunny and very hot on lake.
Usually in Summer sugar get lower, so do dose of insulin.
It is usually vit D which is low, and I do not know why iyt is low. I do spend as much time as I can under sunshine, still, vit D is low or on low border of normal ranger.

I don't want to get into the "I can't do this" thing. What I will say is that the job of insulin is to drive sugar out of the blood. So if you stop eating sugar and high glycemic carbs then there is no sugar to drive out. And most protein of course since any excessive protein is converted to glucose in the liver. A ketogenic diet has been proven to drive glucose down, drive insulin down and over time, reduce insulin resistance. Insulin resistance usually starts with too much sugar / starch in the diet. Once established however, taking more insulin increases the insulin resistance directly. There is no way out of that loop without driving glucose down BELOW NORMAL so that externally applied insulin is no longer required.

The next thing to know is that Insulin is a hormone. It does many things in the body OTHER THAN control blood glucose. The body is simply not designed / intended to have gigantic quantities of insulin in the blood all the time. High insulin all by itself is extremely toxic to the body.

Dr Fung does say that end stage diabetics are different. If you have screwed up your body so bad with all this stuff then it is apparently possible that there is no way back. That doesn't make it good however. High blood pressure, heart disease, strokes and cancer are all directly linked to high insulin levels.

Type II diabetes is now acknowledged to be a DIET DISEASE, caused initially by diet, held in place with externally applied insulin along with the high carb nonsense advised by the ignorant treating physician. It can only be reversed with diet, specifically getting rid of the sugar / carbs / excess protein, simultaneously reducing the insulin no longer required.

To say "most of us cannot" ignores reality. Most of us can. Many (perhaps most) of us don't want to. I refuse to die the grisly diabetic death.

Great Job! Keeping the blood glucose down allows the insulin to drop which allows weight loss.

69 today, all back to normal.
I injected 445 units Lantus Solo Star Yesterday.
Today it is 380 units, and one shot more before bed. Sugar OK today.
I read all that posts how people use diets, and I cannot get it. Really, how diet can help to control sugar level? Usually we eat all the same day after day: some milk, rice, meat, chicken, veg & frute. There is not big difference in our diet. Also I can say, it is practically not possible to hold all in the same time, eat on time, count all that cal. and so so on. I do understand, some people can do this. Most of us cannot. I cannot.
In stead to control all what I eat, I control blood sugar numbers with Insulin Injections. I take only long acting insulin Lantus solo Star.
So, because of Yesterday I did not inject two Insulin shots, sugar went up. Today I fixd all and sugar in good. The first things first.
Some people believe they gain weight with insulin. I do not. My weight go up when I do have insulin supply stopped, and I cannot buy insulin, too expencive. It is about $3000 every month, insulin only./

130 mg/dl today fasting.
Yesterday I was lazy and took only one shot of Insulin, 200 units. We had concert in NY Phill, returned late, and I did not took my second and third shots. So, today fasting is higher then usual. Right now I already injected 240 units + 120 units. Hope tomorrow fasting will be better.

I took only 300 units Lantus Solo Star Yesterday, so happy. It is down from 610 units. Maybe, just maybe, Insulin dose going down. It is so expensive that looks like Aetna pays for Insulin but cut another medicine to pay, and cut visits to pay. I do have balance to pay.

It is great number, and I am happy to see it on my meter.
Recently my numbers were way too low. If I try to reduce dose of insulin, day time sugar getting up. It is like walking between rock and hard place. Very often I simple cannot take insulin, even I used to take it all the time when sugar low. I am in great fear. So, I skip the shot.
Today it is ALL Right. Perfect sugar.
I am so happy with my number!

I do have about the same when I skip Insulin dose.

72 mg/dl today.

300 Lantus Solo Star Yesterday.
WOW! I am good! Just a week or so ago I took 610 units, and now dose of insulin started to drop. Good to know. The price for Insulin is $2000 for me, just one month supply. It is very expensive. All this year I have to take double dose of Insulin. I do not know why it is get so high. I see no reason. Seems all looks the same. Still without any reason dose of insulin started to skyrocket. Now the price for insulin $3,000.
I afraid to say it. For me it looks like if I said it, sugar will go up and up. I do understand, it is not way to be or will. But looks like I am afraid to be happy.
It is started to get worm in NYC. Still rainy, day after day. Today is also rain. I love rain, but my antidepressants come to end, and there is no refill.

123 mg/dl fasting in the morning.
I do have very severe teeth pain. I cannot eat. Most time I try to get some sleep to reduce the pain. It started last week, and now finally I got to dental office. Doctor said, teeth must be extracted. He gave me Rx to reduce pain, but it is too little relive. We went to one office, and they do not work with our Dental Health Plan. Next day I called to other officies, and they suggested they will put me on weight list. One list for August!
Finally my man come home, took some calls, and tomorrow I will go to the dental office. Cross my fingers!
123 is not high, and I did not worry about that I cannot take insulin. If I cannot eat then I cannot take insulin. So, all day long I am in bed or behind PC.
At 6:06 pm sugar 202. Say me, why sugar getting up? I do not eat, I simple cannot eat, too much pain. Also I think that pain killer reduce appetite. I will not say I am hungry. But I am very sick right now.
Well, hopefully tomorrow doctor will do the job, and I will be pain free. Cross my fingers!

63 mg/dl fasting.
A little bit higher then it is lastly. Yesterday I injected only 465 units of Lantus Solo Star. usually I inject 610 units. Probably soon dose of insulin will dropping. I do not decrease dose of insulin is it is a few low sugar numbers. But if low will be constant then probably it is time to cut some units.
I inject only Lantus Solo Star, and there is no any other medicine to curb blood sugar numbers. I do not take Metformin, or any diuretics.
I wrap my legs, both of them every day to reduce edema, but looks like water still inside and does not go away. Still, legs are not swelled, and skin is dry, no wounds so far.

79 FBGL. 9TH day of an extended fast.

Using a very small strict keto meal once a day, a few hundred calories. Last night was a large salad with oil & vinegar dressing with 2 cheese sticks. 1 square 90 % dark chocolate and 2 tbs peanut butter for dessert. Yummy.

Losing about half a pound a day real fat during deep ketosis.

I've lost 60 pounds, 40 in the last 5 months. Loving keto and intermittent fasting.

JWCOLBY, I have limited internet access so please forgive if I have to duck out in the middle... story of my life! LOL
The variance on meters is well know to me and as long as it's in the ballpark that's all I need. A 25 point spread is just fine...
I'm insulin dependent: my body is only producing 0.1% of a normal amount of insulin, so I take 8 shots a day~two shots of long acting, morning and evening, and six doses of fast-acting to compensate for the six mini-meals I eat every day (gastric problems, check my profile! emoticon )

When I'm asleep and my blood sugar crashes, if I don't wake up on my own, my therapy cat wakes me... a sweet little boy, Licorice, and a real life-saver!
To treat, I drink about 4 ounces of juice, because eating solids takes too long to break down. Then I wait 15 or 20 minutes and test again. I repeat, until the blood sugar begins to normalize. Then I can eat a half portion of any protein based dish, like half a sandwich or a quarter cup of cottage cheese and ryecrisp, to stabilize, unless it's time for a regular meal...I've been treated by paramedics a time or two because of the gastric issues before my doctor and I figured out something that works better.

I've been at this for more than twenty years, and it doesn't matter what I do things WILL change. LOL I can do a lot though, that makes it easier. And I'm constantly researching new things and running them by my doctor. He's not just an MD, he has a PhD too, and he's pretty savvy. And I have specialists (14) for the other stuff~ kidneys, eyes, gastric, gout etc. Keeps me busy.

Just got a call, a friend of mine has had a heart attack so I'm going to go...
Kathy

You don't say how you handle your diabetes, at least in this thread. Meds? Insulin? Diet? Fasting?

One thing to remember is that the home finger stick strips readings vary pretty widely.

In fact I have read that it even matters if you have to squeeze hard to get the droplet of blood, something about how wounds push serum to the wound site. Hands warm vs ice cold causes difference in how easy the blood drop can come out.

My strategy is to just note the reading. If I suspect a problem, take two finger sticks, different fingers, back to back. of course if you are hypoglycemic and you are using insulin then that can be a medical emergency so better to deal with it. And I suspect (I don't get that condition) that you can just feel something wrong.

No drugs, no insulin, Keto dinner, last food some beef Jerkey around 8:00 PM.

My fasting Blood Glucose was up this morning, about 126. It had been below 100 this am. I took a second stick immediately, different finger, down around 116. That kind of variance is not uncommon for me personally.

At 1:02 this morning, my BGL was 57. Ouch. Didn't get much sleep after that, had to deal with it...
Then at breakfast time it was 182... backswing, anyone? Sheesh.

Actually ignorant and low educated is you, not I. Now I am pretty sure you have no one idea about diabetes and have no diabetes at all. BTW, how this diet let you collect 300 pounds? LOL! Did you chose diabetes and then started to eat right and take fasting so you are diabetes free? So smart of you!!!!!!!
I was born diabetic. My father who was diabetic died at age of 37. I am 66 now. My father lost his father when he was kid. He is and his baby sister both were diabetics, passed away very very yearly.
You are barking on wrong tree, idiot. I did not chose to be diabetic, but I live with diabetes full my life. No one diabetic chose to be diabetic. People like you create the impression that you Cured diabetes type 2 with diet, any one of them and incentive work outs. Ketosis lead to lostt weight in very speedy way. When my sugar was too high, on the limit to survive, because of I do not have money to pay for Insulin, I lost from size 3x down to size 1x, and it was lose on me. It did not let me diabetes-free. No one diabetic will diabetes free with ketosis state. But every one of us lose weight dramatically.

So you are dying of a disease and yet you refuse to watch a video of information about the disease? That is a choice you are making. You say you don't choose to have diabetes but in fact a choice to do nothing is still a choice.

There are entire boards right here on sparkpeople for fasting and ketogenic diets. Both these things are powerful tools for CURING diabetes. There are dozens of videos about these tools. They are not new. K

Good luck with your disease. Luck will not save you though. You choose to stay ignorant and your ignorance is killing you. So you choose...

Of cause I do not trust you, why should I?
As I do know so far if someone got intoxicated with alcohol, it is not alcohol used as treatment. The question is, if Insulin make insulin resistance worse then why it is insulin used to safe diabetic's lives? Not diabetics type 1, but any one who has high blood sugar.
Personally, I cannot trust you that with A1c=12.2% you cured diabetes with diet. Interesting to know what highest level of sugar you ever detected on your meter?
I do compare Diabetes and Cold. No one will use patient to send to cold to treat flu or cold, it is hot which used to cure patient, and medicine.
Now you suggest that fasting, which reduce level of insulin and level blood sugar is cure? For how long you can fast? As soon as you start to eat you sugar getting up, even when one is not diabetic, and insulin level increased.
The problem with diabetes is that insulin secretion is not sufficient. Insulin added in injections cure diabetes, any type of it. With insulin there is no hunger, no weight gain.
I hope you do understand why I am not interesting to have any discussions with you. Regardless what you post, I will not answer to you on any my post.

Nightstar71,

I am not your enemy. I am not "hijacking" your thread.

Diabetes is not a cold. You don't get better by taking an aspirin. You don't get better by taking insulin. Diabetes IS INSULIN RESISTANCE. If you are an alcoholic do you drink more alcohol to cure your disease? Why do you think that taking more and more insulin is going to make you LESS insulin resistant?

Believe me I understand that this is scary stuff but hiding under the covers will not make diabetes go away. Did you do the research? Watch the video all the way through.

youtu.be/FcLoaVNQ3rc

If you decide it is too much work then you made your choice. But don't be telling me it can't be done because I am putting in the work and it is working for me.

And no I am not promoting anyone. The man is a doctor. I am just a nobody in NC who was diagnosed in 2014 with diabetes, and decided that I was NOT GOING TO DIE. I watched my uncle have his toes chopped off. Then his foot. Then his lower leg. Then he just got tired of the fight and died.

NOT ME.

Actually I did not name calling at anyone. Person who pretend that he reduced blood sugar from A1c=12.2% with diet just promote someone, and as long as I do remember it should not be in this way.
Also he abuse diabetics type 2 that it is our choice to be diabetics. Really? Diabetes type 2 is number 7 cause of Death in America. It is very very painful condition, so painful that very often I simple not able to go out of bed.
If here anyone will say me, how Insulin Resistance was diagnosed I would be happy to try to understand it. Unfortunately, there is no one diagnose to test level of resistance to insulin.

I do remember, you already banned me once pretending that I am rude. I am not. Never was. The ball is in your court now.

This is not rude at all.
That man try to hijack mu tread.
At first, why he is diabetic? If he has perfect level of sugar and no medicine he cured or never was diabetic, right? Really why people pretend to be diabetics if they are not? Did you ever thought about, why people who eat right and work out pretend to be diabetics? They are healthy, not ill.
Second, if he used to have high blood sugar it does not mean that he is insulin resistant diabetic. He can be diabetic insulin dependent, right? How insulin resistance was diagnosed? There is no one evidence he was diagnosed with insulin resistance but level of sugar.
And if you wish that forum is friendly then why that men pretend that diabetes type 2 is personal choice? Why do not you see how rude this sound?
I am sorry, diabetes is not personal choice. It is very aggressive medical condition. If left untreated it is fatal. No one diet will cure diabetes. No one work out will cure diabetes.

So, you better to see who is rude and who is aggressive. In no one way it is I. I am diabetic type 2. I need Insulin, 600 units daily. It is insulin resistance how it was defined by Dr. Joslin. Insulin resistance is the medical condition when dose of insulin is higher then 200 units. There is no one diet will cure. There is no one way it is my choice. It is no one way I am rude.
I do understand, this forum for those who fight diabetics and one day my account will close again as it was close before. I do not mind. But still, do not post on my tread that Diabetes is personal choice. This is RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay away with this rudeness!

I just wander, how you was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance?
Really, what test was taken by you that you are Insulin Resistant?
As long as I do remember, Dr.Joslin diagnosed patients as Insulin Resistant when dose of insulin was higher then 200 units.
Now, why you are 'diabetic' if
your sugar is normal;
you need no medicine to control blood sugar;
so why you pretend to be diabetic?

This is my suggest to read. It is link to medical e-jurnal. This is all about diets, all of them and any one of them.
So, you better to be away from my posts. You reversed your diabetes which you never had, it is great for you. Start your own tread. This tread is mine.

Atkins. Paleo. Whole360. Fruitarian. Skip gluten on Wednesdays unless it’s a full moon. No matter which diet your try, the data is in. And the message is clear: Diets don’t work. At least not in the long run. Sure, you can lose weight, but after a year, at least 1 in 3 of us gain it back. After 5 years? Almost no one keeps it off.

Blood glucose 85 last night, 91 this AM. NO DRUGS REQUIRED!!! NO shots of insulin!!! I started my diabetes management with an A1C of 12.2.

Listen to Dr. FUNG! The man is in the trenches helping us REVERSE our diabetes. Living with diabetes is a choice. I prefer to REVERSE (eliminate) mine!

Sugar and refined carbs are poison. Injections of insulin makes your diabetes WORSE.

It is possible to reverse insulin resistance. It is not easy although with IF it is not very hard. But it is possible.

FBG = 80 today.
Yesterday at eve it was 52 mg/dl. So, I skipped one shot of insulin, 160 units. I injected 305 in the morning and I had to inject 160 before 6 pm. But sugar started to drop, and I skipped shot.
I think I was right. 80 is perfect sugar. At least it is not low.

Not really. I am not educator and I do not take role I am not singed for. I just take a look at others, how they are doing with the same problem as I do have.
I am not interesting in any diet. Nether do I going to change my lifestyle. But medicine and all our medical conditions we develop as effect of diabetes is my concern. This is why I ask to post medicine every one take, and how does it work or not.

thanks for post. probably it is duplicate but I prefer to have people to post on my tread then use someone others. So, please response to my post if you please. It is not only fasting sugar. My real interest how people go with sugar day after day every day.
I recently very surprising get to highly increased dose of insulin. I jumped from 305 up to 610 units. I never was able even to think that so high dose will be possible to take.
Another surprise, my A1c down to 5.9%. It took me years to drop from 9.4% and I thought that 7% would be good and never would drop because of I stay diabetic. It is not. It dropped.
This is why I am interesting in my post rather then in someone tread that people will think I hijacked their tread.

Thanks for responding.
How many units do you take daily?
It is very complicated with Insulin. Now I do have low sugar too often. Going to decrease dose of insulin. I take only Lantus Solo Star.
Also I do take many other types of medicine.
metoprolol,
lisinopril
losartan
spiriva,
nexium
lipitos 80 mg daily.
and so on. I do have good cholesterol right now, but it is only with medicine. And only wioth Lipitor. All other statins such as Simvastatin and other did not work for me. I get heart problems with them.
