Study your disease. It costs you nothing but a little time and will save your life.

Tell God your plans and listen to the chuckles.

Listen to your children's plans and get a few chuckles of your own.

Welcome to SparkPeople and the Managing Diabetes Group!
It's a great place to learn and to find support...
I hope you'll take the time to learn more about the tools here: my favorite is the Nutrition Tracker! I'm what's known as a brittle diabetic, and am currently taking two different types of insulin totally eight shots a day... and not eligible for a pump. Crazy, right? But my last hemoglobin A1C was 6.7, lower than it's been since my diagnosis 20+ years ago.
Do you know your numbers?
If not, finding out about them might be a great place to begin, your "starting line" if you want. LOL

I hope you enjoy the journey as I have... there are some wonderful and amazing friends to be found here.
Keep posting, it's good to hear how others are doing, it gives us encouragement too!

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!
P.S. I looked up enthusiasm, and it says the root words mean God within... interesting...!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But you don't have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too! LOL

Life comes one mome

Hi. I am Dunelady. I am reaching out because I know I can't do this alone. Tried multiple times and have discovered that I am extremely successful at my lack of success with sticking to a plan...even when it is working! Life always happens and I get derailed and wind up right back where I started, which is carrying around 40 pounds of pregnancy weight gained with each pregnancy that I never lost. (Totally not an excuse...youngest is 17, so it's not like I haven't had time to lose the weight!). So the life that I keep tripping over? I am the only non autist in the family...Yep, hubby and both kids have high-functioning autism. Hubby had a stroke which has worsened his autism and shredded his memory. So I am the caregiver, the household income, family advisor, etc. Not their fault I gained weight, not autism's fault either...none of them fed me...I did that all by myself. Food is an amazingly simple complicated coping tool! But my health is suffering, and after too many tries to fix this on my own, I thought I would try reaching out. So...think connecting here might make a difference this time?
