He didn't give me a specific amount of exercise that he wanted me to do. So I have been working on walking at least 1 miles 4-5 days per week plus tracking my steps. I have arthritis in my knees so until I can build up some strength and stamina I am trying to get at least 5000 steps per day. So far I have been able to do that. I think that I will up it next week to 6000 or 7500 and just keep upping it until I can reach 10000. It's been a rough ride but it will be well worth it in the end.

You have a good Dr to give you the opportunity to try to get it down and keep it there.

Did he talk about Walking or exercise . emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the advice Pat. My Dr did do an A1c and it was 6.9, and because it was below 7 is one of the reasons that he was giving me a chance to work on my diet and exercise before giving me an official diagnosis. He says that once you are diagnosed as diabetic it can follow you and make it hard to get insurance. So for that reason he wanted me to wait. He said we will check my FBS again in a month and we will see where we are at with it. I am following my nutritionist's advice and cutting the carbs and sugars from my diet and focusing on non-starchy veggies and lean meats. Also my protein shakes each morning that the Dr recommended.

It sounds like you will accomplish your objective.

Did the Dr. do an A1c ?

I asked for one and the Dr. did one.

My A1c. was 8.8 and it had to be under 6.0

I looked on the internet and used Spark very carefully and I was able to get it down with Spark and Metformin. Once it was down I have kept it down by tracking my food.

Right now I am not exercising as well as I usually do but we have had company at the house.
I called my Dr. yesterday and I will have an A1c just to check my blood sugar over the last three months. Pat in Maine. emoticon

Thank you, I have been using the tracker. In fact I just reset it so that I could monitor my blood sugars and I put in for diabetes so that it would help with my diet.

Hi there,
I suggest you check out and use the nutrition tracker.
I hope you put in your correct weight . The numbers have to be accurate otherwise it will not give you the numbers of Calories, Carbs. Fat and fiber. There are other things to add to keep a track off. I added a number of nutrients that I want to keep track of.
My next best thought is buy measuring spoons, and cups. I also have a scale to measure items that do not fit in a cup. -Meat, bread also so it works that way.

Hello everyone, just wanted to drop a quick hello! I do not have an official diagnosis of diabetes as of yet. My doctor is giving me a chance to develop better eating and exercise habits to manage my sugar. So far in the 2 weeks since I have seen him my sugars are still averaging about 125 at all times. I spoke to my nutritionist earlier this week and she gave me some tips to getting it lower. Hopefully I can learn a few things from those of you who have been at this for a while and I can avoid an official diagnosis.
