Elayne, that sounds like the ones I was looking at. It was a couple years ago. I got two of the other ones, one for me and one for my friend. It had place for blood type, doctor, etc, as well as the diagnosis. my friend is allergic to just about everything.

Thanks for the link on that.

Darlene This is where I ordered my jewelry from. This is what I wrote in my blog.

I went on line and ordered 2 pieces of jewlery from the American Medical ID website. One is a circle necklace that has a circle of bling around the edge. (Gotta have my bling) The red alert logo is in the center. I was able to have it engraved on the back. I had them put Elayne Morgan, Diabetic and COPD. Allergic To: PCN,Sulfa Then my husband's name and phone number.

The other piece is a removable bracelet tab to go on any one of the 9 different color wrist bands. That too is engraved the same way.

I figure since this is a life time deal, I might as well have something nice to tell others of my health issues. I look at these as accessories to my wardrobe.

Darlene, when I looked for medical bracelets, I saw one just like you described. It had SOS engraved on the locket. That is the kind I am looking into.....

I don't know if they still have them, but I have seen the Medic Alert in Walmart and Walgreens. I didn't get them because they had a monthly charge. I had one kind that has something you can put your information on (folds like an accordian) and it fits inside the metal part of the bracelet. My chain broke, though, so I can't find where it is. There was something on the internet that has a lot of different ones that look more like jewelry. Try Googling it.

Many doctor's offices will have pamphlets about the Medic Alert program. If you can't find anywhere else, you could always ask your doctor for a pamphlet..... Do you already have one of their bracelets? Could the instructions for registering your data in included with the purchase?????

Personally, I will not wear the medic alert ones because I refuse to wear something with that particular symbol ...... I have a very real phobia.... However, I have heard of one called SOS that has the letters SOS on it and am looking into getting one of those but still have some more research to do.....

Good luck....

Hi there. Thanks for the advice. The educator / nutritioist only shows up once a month. I did get 2 books from the ADA from my Dr. I am digging for info, and was happy to find help here on Spark too.

Anyone know what the best site is to get a medical alert bracelet or necklace? I also have COPD and numerious allergies. I checked on Medical Alert ID Site and I can't find where to register my information. Does anyone here have one they wear?

Thanks for your help. emoticon

ELAYNE, call them and ask for an earlier appointment or cancellation. Let them know you are anxious to get information. Ask if the office can send some information or ask if you can pick some up.

There is a lot of information on Spark.
It is much more reassuring dealing with a person face to face.
Give it a try. Pat in Maine.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I do have a meter and will do my first stick in the am before I eat. I am only to check it once a day, twice a week for now, so I decided on Tuesday and Saturday. I don't even see my Dr. again until Sept.18 for lab results from the 11th. She must not be that concerned, but I want to get this under control as soon as I can. Looking forward to making new friends here on this team. emoticon

Welcome! Meeting with your Diabetes Educator will give you a lot of information you will need.
Even among type 2 Diabetics it will vary quite a bit how food effects them. One size doesn't fit all.
This is a good time to write down what you're eating day to day and that will give the educator information on how to help you make changes for your best health.

Welcome to the group. Do you have a meter yet? You can probably start using that to see what will increase your sugars and what won't. Cut out simple sugars like sugar, pop, etc. Cut down on things with a lot of starch or high carbohydrates. When I was diagnosed I didn't know what to do, either. I cut out sugary things and dropped my blood sugar quite a bit just doing that. I'm bad, though, and can't seem to stick with it.

Use the nutrition tracker and see how many carbs you are actually eating. Then use your meter to see where your optimum level is. That could give you something to start with until you see the educator.
