@ Massit: Welcome to the team! I have read that walking is the best exercise for diabetics as the leg muscles produce a chemical (that I can't remember the name of) that helps control our blood sugar. Strength training is also recommended.

@Lassy319: Welcome! Many diabeties educators will tell you to restrict carbs to 45 grams per meal and 15 grams per snack, although these numbers are not set in stone. Maybe you need to follow up to see what level of carbs she recommends.

Hi All, I just joined spark 2 days ago, and I have a question. My dietician told me that I could eat veggies for free but when I track my foods they have quite a few carbs. Also, she told me to eat nuts, which now I've found out are loaded with fat. Could this be why I've gained weight instead of the insulin I'm on? I am trying very hard to stay within my calories for the day according to my food tracker but when I look at my percentages (carbs, protein, fat) I think I have to balance this in a better way. I have started exercising again, and hopefully this will help. I have to lose this extra weight. Any comments are welcome.

Welcome. Take it a step-at-a-time, a day-at-a-time. Have you seen a diabetic educator? That's a great start.

Definitely test, test, and test your sugars some more! Keep a journal and see how your body responds to different foods.

Exercise really is important. Even starting out w/10 minutes of walking is a good start. Build up from there.

Stay connected here. Definitely ask questions!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

Hello - Went through a trying time this year and now I hope 2015 will be better for me. I have a sedentary job, but am interested in meeting new people who have the same interest and goals as myself. My main goal is to lose weight and to get my A1C numbers down through better eating habits and exercise even if the exercise is just walking at this point. Taking things slow and making changes slowly so that they will be long lasting.
