Hi, I am Karyn. I rejoined SparkPeople on March 27, 2014 after a couple of years away. It took me all this time to realize that there were beginners groups. I just went through all the teams that I had joined previously and that how I found this group. I biggest goal is to become healthy and fit, avoid insulin and take care of my heart!

Hello Everyone,

I'm Barbara. I'm not new here either. My Spark is fresh again and this time I want it to burn longer and brighter than ever before.

I've been struggling to find where I fit into Spark since my return. Happily for me NPDSLEUTH has been a great friend through thick and thin (so to speak). The dates that I came back to spark "coincidentally" fall into this group.

We've all seen ups and downs in life and I'm just so thankful that we can come together here and know that we aren't alone. I'm excited to get to know you. As for me, I work the front end of the local grocery store (cashier, customer service and front end "runner"). I LOVE my job but it smacks me with temptation every day. I am a blogger. Feel free to read through my spark blogs. So far, I've been quite inspiring to myself! lol

My experience has shown me that when I go about losing weight as a way of life, I eventually fall off the wagon. This time around I am not working on losing weight per se. Instead, I am on a 40 day journey to a healthier me. My goals are simple: eat healthy, move more. Today I am on day 37. The success is real. It is sustainable. I'll be starting a new 40 day quest in just a few days... 40 days can change the world...

Be Good To Yourself!

Barbara

~ ~ Barbara ~ ~

Start date: March 4, 2010 @ 232 pounds

AFFIRMATIONS:
I live a healthy lifestyle ~ I have 4 beautiful children that I will (God willing) see grow up ~ My relationships are awesome ~ I have an amazing amount of energy ~ I feel healthy ~ I feel good about myself ~ I look better than I have in years and I get better looking each day ~ I have self-confidence ~ I am a success ~ I respect myself.

Hi everybody,

I'm Linda. I'm a 28 year old single mother from Norway, though I currently live and study in South Dakota (USA)
I'm a returning user too, I used sparkpeople and lost 80lbs. Then I managed to go get pregnant and all that lol. Gained back about 30lbs while nursing my daughter, now that I'm not nursing anymore I'm jumping back on the wagon.

Aiming to lose 100lbs by my graduation in May 2014. Start a new life as a new me, healthy and ready to take on life with my little girl :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Amy but I prefer to go by my username Zorinia or Zor for short. I am a 37 year old mother of three, (17, 10 & 8) wife to one wonderful husband and a fur-mommy to two dogs. I started my weight loss journey last January and lost 40 lbs but then I plateaued and quit altogether. I'm back again and I have to stay motivated and positive in order for this to work. My first long term goal is to lose 50 pounds by my birthday (Novemeber 7th). I will do this using the nutrition tracker and staying within my calorie range at least 6 days a week. ( I will track all 7). I will also go to the gym 5 days a week for 3 strength training days and 2 cardio days. I am determined to make this work this time. I will not quit. I will not give up. I will succeed!

Good Luck to us all on the long and winding journey!
~Zor

I'm with you on that one! Let's keep it going :) LJSM2611...and ditto on the greek yogurt. I've found using seasonings that I didn't use much in the past really enhances fresh foods/vegetables...

Yes, Allegra! Here's to clean eating, choosing Real food. I'm done with the fake non-fat, sugar-free stuff too (except for 0 Greek Yogurt and low-fat cream cheese...my 2 exceptions.) Good company here...

Hi I'm Sandy and this is my second time here on spark. I am married and a mom to 7 kids from ages 5 to 21. I had a rough couple of years and gain some weight since my journey here on spark. I first came to spark in 2009 and was 280 lbs and did lose to 184 lbs in 2013. I left spark and somewhere lost focus and hit a rough patch. I was dealing with family problems and stuff just got in the way. It feels good to be back again and this time I plan on losing the weight that I gained. I sure could use all the support and motivation. My plan is to eat healthier and to walk as much as I can and come on here for support.

I am a Beautiful Woman in side and out, I don't have a weight problem "I have a problem with my weight"

I love making new spark friends, so please feel free to drop me a line and say hello. Keep the spark going..

"Writing it down makes it real"....that's my new motto. I find that staying focused and accountable is my biggest challenge. It's so easy to fall off the wagon if no one is looking - but now "I" am looking! I find that I have the best success when I eat clean, simple food. I also have the greatest success on low carb diets. I have tried in the past doing lots of "substitutions" for foods - using splenda (or other artificial sweetners) - in recipes, or crustless pizza's etc. For me (and this is only me I'm talking about), I find that having things that don't taste like the real thing just make me more focused on "wanting the real thing". So I stopped. Now I am eating just more simply. Meats, low starch vegetables, great salads with lots of interesting toppings, etc....and it works for me so far (I've lost about 20 pounds before I started here on Sparkpeople). I actually enjoy working out and am in decent cardio shape - and I want to stay that way. Health has become my new priority - maintaining it. I need to stay focused and commit to routine workouts, and a clean way of eating....long term. Any thoughts or advice is welcomed! Glad to be in great company....

IT IS WHAT IT IS

Hello -- my name is Laurie. I just found our Team page after a whole week. So great to read all these intros! Hi everyone. I see myself in much of what is written. I'm 54, mother of 2 teens, work part time in Adult Ed. I gain and lose the same 20 pounds and once again, I hit the wall, and am ready to go back down. And hey--1 week of tracking and 3 lbs lighter. I know it works when I pay attention, keep my goals top of mind, and make smarter intentional choices with food. But like many others here, I start with all kinds of motivation and energy and then fizzle out.....I've reached 150 before and lived there. I can't seem to step into the 140's for more than a minute. So--150 is my goal. Thanks for being out there!

Hi everyone, I'm Stephanie. I here to keep myself consistent. I start strong and then fizzle off. I'm using sparkpeople meal planner and so far I love it. The recipes are yummy. Anyway. I'm looking to lose 80 lbs. I'm married to a wonderful man and have a 10 year old daughter and a 15 year step daughter. Would love to have a buddy to help with consistency.

Hi everyone. I'm a 31 year old single mother of 5 amazing kids. This last year has been a super rough year for me and my family. Because of my depression I have gained 30 pounds in the last year. I am ready to get my life back in order. One of these steps is to lose this extra weight that I have added on. And to become more healthy and fit in order to take care of my children better.

New dragonfly,
I can so relate. I'm 46 and have family history of illness as well. Sometimes I don't understand why what I know in my head doesn't translate to my actions. I want to be done abusing myself too. Good luck on your journey.

May you be richly blessed

Hi, I'm Coleen. What a great site! I am 57 and I've put on 45 lbs in the last two years. Never thought it would happen to me, but how could it not? I never monitored my nutrition needs, my portions were way out of control, and I never worked out. So my husband and I joined a fitness center in Nov, and we went about 4x a week. But not an ounce came off! When my doctor told me it was the portions, I couldn't believe it never occurred to me before! So I began reading serving sizes, got the food scale down from the cabinet, and started weighing and measuring everything. Within a week, both of us started losing weight. What a motivator! Then my sis told me about this site, and I feel it is truly a blessing! Now I can track our nutrient needs. I'm talking vitamins and minerals every day, not just calories, carbs, fats and protein. And the recipes here are so awesome and inspiring. Who knew eating healthy could be so tasty, satisfying, and even exciting? Its all about trying new things. And once you start, there is no stopping. I would like to take the opportunity to thank SparkGuy for this wonderful site, and for making it FREE for all of us to get healthy! Now that's a humanitarian!!

Working toward mindfulness, day by day.

Hello everyone. Here I am taking the first step and joining this site. Now on to step two and beyond...to do something about it. I'm still trying to find what my tactic will be. I am having a hard time deciding what will be the most beneficial for me to do that will make me suceed. My first step is portion control. So glad to be with all of you and can't wait for an amazing journey!!! We can do this!

Hugs............ probably more of us in that boat than you know - so at least you're not going it alone. Hard to break the habits of years - and hard to think about ourselves in such a way to that we make ourselves first. Don't you find that we tend to put family first, everything first except ourselves???? Time to change that - time to change our attitudes, and time to lean on one another to do it......................

Hi everyone! My name is Victoria. I'm not a newbie to SparkPeople. I used it for a few months last year and managed to lose 15 pounds. But then I fell off the wagon after I fractured my ankle and was forced to wear a boot for over a month. I ended up gaining back 12 lbs of what I lost. I'm back again to continue that journey.

I'm 22 years old, recent college grad from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, but grew up in Los Angeles. I've been overweight my entire life and I want to take advantage of my youth so that I can make changes that will make the aging process easier in the long run. I have a boyfriend I've been seeing for nearly 4 years, and 2 dogs. I am a lover of books, TV, politics, cooking, and wine.

My big goal is just to get under 200lbs, but I know that will take time and I'm ready to be patient. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, tips, need a friend, or need a pep-talk!

Have a great day everybody!

Hi everyone. I'm Jessica :) aaannd I am excited to be here!!!! Though this is not my first time around the block.....I have used Sparkpeople in the past. This is a very useful site and can be a huge help with the right motivation!

I'm getting married in July and am super pumped to lose 10-15lbs by then. No excuses...I need to look hot on my wedding day people!!!

Also I recently became really aware of what I am putting into my body --- it's starting to become an obsession to pump myself with healthy stuff. So I am psyched to start looking through everyones healthy food ideas.

Have a great day ya'll!

Good Morning All;
I am 56 yr old woman. I have abused my body for most of my life. The blood pressure is going up, the cholesterol is going up too. Heart disease, blood sugar and thyroid trouble runs in the family. So I am playing with fire every day that I don't eat well or exercise. My brain knows this, but still I don't seem to care enough about ME to do something.
I read somewhere that new habits can be created by doing the action for 30 days in a row.....with that, I am going to be here EVERYDAY for the next 30 days and see what happens.

I have to believe in me and TRY...no DO IT, everyday ! ! !

Hi, I am Peggy. Both my husband and I need to make big changes, so I am hoping this is a tool I can use to make those changes. We are both diabetic, but have just been out there eating whatever we want and not thinking about it.Got a wake up call from the doctor's office a few days ago and now have to get serious. That said, I am 57 years old, with worn out knees. I retired at the end of December from my job because I simply couldn't do it anymore due to the knee pain. I have ruined my body by what I have been doing all these years. I did lose 150 pounds several years ago and vowed never to be this size again, but here I am, as big as I have ever been and ready now to make changes. emoticon

Hi! I'm Nikki. I was on Spark a billion years ago, but just wasn't ready, so it didn't work for me. Ok. I didn't work for me. I've rejoined, bigger than ever.
I'm tired of being tired! I'm sick of being sick! I do want to LOOK a heck of a lot better, but now, at 40 with two kiddos under 10, it's more important for me to focus on HEALTH. I want to be here for my kids as they grow up.
So, now I'm ready. No fad diets, just better food choices coupled with exercise. Up 'til now the bulk of my "exercise" was me going from the couch to the kitchen. NO MORE SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE FOR ME!

Hi everybody. My name is Debbie. I'm 44. I have a full time job working in a residential setting with adults who have special needs. In my spare time I enjoy being out in the country with my boyfriend, cooking, shopping, watching movies, spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to the nicer weather so I can spend more time outdoors, camping, hiking, swimming, or just sitting outside in my lawn chair with a good book. I have been a breast cancer survivor for almost three years now and I want to finely once and for all get back into shape. A friend of mine told me about SparkPeople. I thought I'd check it out so here I am. Nice to meet you all. :)

Welcome everyone!!! It's so great to have you here! I don't want to overwhelm you with information, but please -- tell me if you have questions or concerns or just need motivation. I'm here to help.

I can tell you that SparkPeople changed by life. I know I sound like a zealot, but it's true! I did fad diets, weird diets, starving diets, you name it. Nothing worked 'til this.

So glad you're here! Nikki

Hello everyone, I am 55 years old and have 80 lbs to lose. I did a fad diet 3 years ago and lost all the weight only to gain it back almost as quickly as I took it off. I have always been a plus size girl but i have never weighed what I weigh now.So having said that I want to get healthy. I live a very busy outgoing life. I have not felt like going or doing anything! Looking forward to meeting people and getting the journey started. Did I mention I am a Georgia girl! LOL emoticon

Hello, I'm Sadie. I'll be 30 end of next month and want to start losing weight and make this decade healthy. I've got about 87 lbs to lose. I'm married with no kids just 4 legged furry ones :) I work in a bank so i sit most the day but I do get a nice lunch I plan on if weather ever gets decent being able to walk on lunch and bring healthy foods instead of going out to eat. I did spark a few years ago and lost 30lbs but have gained back after my mom unexpectedly passed away. so decided to do a whole new name and start fresh.

Hello my name is Erica, I'm 36 mother of 3 teenagers. Usually I'm a very fit person however due to medical issues I gained about 40 lbs over the last year. I'm now able to work out again and trying to eat healthy foods instead of crash dieting. Looking forward to sharing my weight loss experience and getting tips from the community! emoticon

Oh hai! My name is Kris, I'm 28 and going back to school full time while still working 35 hrs/wk. I lost 33 lbs on my own before joining SP but my fear is always having something going on will tempt me to eat junk for a quick meal rather than real, nutritious food. I downloaded one of the meal plans and bought ALL of the foods (even the ones that don't sound that great) and cooked ahead a few of the meals already. Hopefully this will be a great start and soon habit that I will be able to maintain in my weight loss journey.
One of my hobbies is working emoticon , my guilty pleasure is dance central on xbox kinect emoticon for workouts that are intentional I enjoying jogging (attempting) and aerobics.

Hello! Im new... ish. This is a new name, but not a new spark person. It's been a while, but I need motivation, friends etc to help me on this battle.

I'm 33, wife and mother of one, a library tech aide and very active in CrossFit, and Mud/Obstacle Course runs. One of these days Ill become a runner... and even further down the line I want to try a Triathlon. But for now, I've given myself 200 days to lose 50 lbs. In a little less then 200 days I'll be celebrating my son's 7th birthday, and I really want to be on my way to a healthy life. I have hypothyroidism and its especially hard to lose weight.

Hi! I am a 29 year old public affairs specialist in DC who needs to find a way to stay committed to an exercise program. I sit all day at work and then go home and sit some more. The only thing that gets me off the couch is nice weather, which doesn't even do the trick 100% of the time. I love to run, but I have sever knee pain most of the time that I do, so that limits my options.

My name is Ben - I am an overall unhealthy father of 1 son with another son on the way in April. These kids are a huge eye opener for myself and my wife. We NEED to get healthier, not only as a role model for our kids, but for ourselves and our longevity! Went out and bought myself some new running shoes, going to start light, but I feel like this program with help me stay on track and make the healthy lifestyle choices that I know I'm capable of making!

Hello all. My name is Aja, and I joined Spark People because I need to start getting healthier. I am excited to see where this takes me. I have a sweet tooth, and I have been slacking on the exercise lately. I am looking forward to re-shaping my diet and exercise routines.

Hi all! My name is Misty. I lost 40 lbs previously with a meal supplement program. I stopped that about 6 months ago and gained 11 lbs back. I am now needing to shed at least 38 lbs (short term goal) and consistently eat better and stay active. My biggest weekness is sweets! I can eat good all day then pig out on Reese's Eggs before bed....ugh!!! And I love to do zumba, walk and play just dance on the wii (just sweat version) but I never make time to do that. I am always busy with my 4 kids. I need someone to hold me accountable for my food choices and encourage me to excercise more regularly.

Hi, my name is Brandi. This is my second go round with Spark People. I lost over 100 lbs last time and kept it off for three years. In the past year I've had a few emotional setbacks and managed to gain back about 60 lbs. So, here I am again back at square one. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome to both of you!!!

Believe me, I have been there where I fell off the wagon -- and I say "ate the wagon!" You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) how many set backs I've had (and still have!)

We're all going to get there! I just know this is a great class! Nikki

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I'm a returning newbie. :) I've used SP with success before, but fell off the wagon and got run over by the horses so I'm back to get things under control again. I tend to start strong and then get bored, lose motivation, and fall back into old habits so I'm hoping to overcome that cycle this time around. Can't wait to get to know everyone! Have a great day!!

Hi Amanda & Crystal,

Welcome!

As I told you in the Welcome letter, SparkPeople has been amazing for me. I was very, very heavy and had tried all kinds of diets, programs, you name it and just couldn't lose the weight. I know I sound like an advertisement, but SP truly saved my life.

If there is anything I can do to help -- healthy eating ideas, time management, etc. please let me know. There are a lot of great resources on SP, but I know it's overwhelming at first! I'd love to be your tour guide :)

Happy Monday and I'm SO glad you're here!!! Nikki

I just recently made the decision (for the one millionth time!) to get healthier/lose weight. I am here hoping to find support in sticking to that goal. I'll be checking in, blogging, basically anything to keep this my focus. Desperate times call for desperate measures, ya know. I look forward to meeting everyone!

Crystal

Hello! My name is Amanda and I joined today in an effort to shed 30lbs before my best friend's wedding and 50lbs before my own. =) I am a new vegetarian (gave up meat for Lent, but much to my surprise, I don't plan on going back) and I spend most of my days at work or hanging out with my fiancée and his kids. I am excited to make some new friends though SP who can relate to the changes that I am making in my life.

Welcome to your team!

I'm so excited for you to be here because I know you'll find, as I did, that you'll make friends in this group that will offer tips, advice and -- as corny as it sounds -- applause as you work toward and meet your goal. It honestly doesn't matter how much or how little you have to lose! This team will be ready to support you.

Please introduce yourself, tell us a bit about you and add any of your interests and hobbies!

We're looking forward to meeting you!

Nikki
