Hi, welcome to the team. Yes, it sure sounds like you need to talk to your doctor about getting off the meds. Best of luck to you. emoticon

Gosh I soooo get it! Since mid December I have been under the care of a homeopathic doctor here in Mexico where I live to taper and get off the sleeping aid Lexotan that I was on for years. You can simply just stop the drug. I found this out the hard way as I tried to do so and didn't sleep at all. so now the doctor has me on a tapering schedule which cuts the drug slowly. Some nights I sleep and some i do not. it's a process to teach your brain to let you sleep again naturally. but i had been having digestive problems and learned that sleeping aids can do this to you..so i am committed to get off all western meds and be healthy. you can do it as well. it would be so much more healthy for you to get off the med. best of everything to you.

Hi, I am Vivien. As a new member of SparksPeople, I am thrilled to finally seek support for my compulsive overeating and sleep deprivation. I have been using Lunesta for several years. I can say I have become someone who abuses the drug because I take it and stay up. I wait until my husband goes to bed--usually rather early, then take a 3 mg. I do get sleepy, but I also get incredible cravings. Because I am a little bit drugged, I give myself permission to eat absolute crap late at night. Ironically, I do not sleep well because of the excess sugar and salt in my system. What a vicious cycle I have been on for so long. I do great on my food plan during the day, probably because I know I will screw up late at night. Thanks for letting me confess to you. It feels good to let people in on my "dirty little secret." I know that ultimately it is up to me to re-learn a natural way to go to sleep and that I have to overcome my night eating syndrome, but I appreciate you being on this site to "hear" me. Thanks. emoticon emoticon
