Samantha, welcome to SP! Congratulations on quitting smoking!
Negative self talk is one of the worst things we do to ourselves. Believe your husband. You are beautiful the way you are and now that you've resolved to get healthier, things can only get better.
PS Consider downsizing your goal. (50 pounds is a lot to lose in 6 months)

Welcome to our SparkFamily!

So cool that your doc recommended SP to you! I've been telling medical folks all over about SP and encouraging them to pay it forward.

Start small and stay focused...little changes will build into a wonderful new YOU living a healthy and well lifestyle!

And as a parent you have double motivation: modeling a healthy and well lifestyle for your children will teach THEM how to do the same for themselves! What better gift can a parent offer their child? :-)

Hi and Welcome, Samantha!

Losing approximately 10 pounds will take a lot of commitment and focus on changing all sorts of habits. And do-able. SP is a great tool right at your fingertips. Sticking to the solid recommendations that SP lays out for us, you can create a solid plan of healthy, balanced nutrition and exercise that you truly enjoy. Enjoy. That's a key word to help your plan work. Understand that many of us do slip off the track and that each slip tells us something about ourselves; if you should go off your path/plan, LEARN from the experience then put it behind you - out of your mind entirely - and forge forward with only the lesson and any resultant revisions to the plan. Yes, you can do this.

Reaching the pound-goal by the stated date is actually less significant than will be exchanging old 'bad' habits for new healthy ones. Habits are right at the heart of what gets us to the point where change is needed - whether the change is losing weight, dumping cigarettes, or ... whatever! I'm a strong support of the "SparkDiet", which is not really about 'diet' as a four-letter crash-method plan. The 'stages' of the SparkDiet truly are all about Healthy Habits and Lifestyle; they are solid stuff, not fly-by-night temporary gimmicks! You'll find nooks and crannies in your way of doing thins if you give time and thought to EVERYthing you read and do while WORKing trough the stages of he SparkDiet... especially the third stage; it is a tool that guides you as you dig into the big danger zone - yes, like its name implies: your habits!

Do consider making your SparkPage and being sure that while creating or editing it you make it available for all to see and leave comments will encourage supportive input from other members.

Take care to not overdo the socializing, but support from others helps, especially when you hit a difficlt hurdle. That's where teams come into play; it's truly helpful to join one or a few teams that interact regularly and in a way that targets your issues, supports your goals. Challenge teams might prove extremely healthy.

Key word in changes you make in nutrition and actvity? Balance. Go for it!
ENJOY the journey!

My name is Samantha and I'm 27 years old. I'm a stay at home mom that has climbed to 204 pounds. My physician told me about this site as she uses it! After quitting my job in September 2012 to stay home with my now 5 year old, I quit smoking and ballooned to this size. It not only affected how I feel about myself but how I feel in my marriage. My husband always tells me I'm beautiful and I'm not fat but I feel the total opposite no matter how many times he says it. He tells me he married me for me and not because I was 75 pounds lighter. My goal is to be at about 150 before my birthday in August. I want to be a better role model for my daughter :)
