Welcome to the team!

It sounds like you are at the point of preparing to make serious changes in your life.

Some points to think about:

Set realistic short-term and long-term goals.
Share your goals with others and ask for support.
Focus on working toward the goal rather than attaining the goal.
Use diaries and logs to track your behaviors and activities.
Take responsibility for your lifestyle.
Make a personal contract and reward yourself for small successes.

You can do it!!!

Consider rewording in your mind to be:
"Tody is the official first day of my journey to a healthy LIFEstyle...". Creating a habit of healthy nutrition that you ENJOY and want to continue will help you stick to the changes that help you reach your weightloss goals.... and then maintain the goal weight and maybe other goals that will emerge.

Because you have been on SP before, you may want to skip the introductory 'getting started guide' and going through the SparkDiet's stages, but do NOT skip these important steps... even though you may feel re-doing things is a waste of your time: it is worth the few minutes o thought. In fact, why not consider this to be Day One as though you have never before used the site?... If you do that, you will get more from this fresh re-start.

Having a SparkPage that others can read and on which they can leave comments will strengthen the support you receive here, as can joining a few carefully (!) selected teams which are active and nourish your methods of reaching your goals. I love that you have the 5K already planned as a goal; working to be ready for it is fantastic incentive!

This time... ENJOY what you are doing so that you will want to keep the changes you make as habits. ENJOY the JOURNEY.

Hello, I'm Alex and I have just rejoined sparkpeople. Two years ago I started working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through weight watchers and a personal trainer in college and lost 20 lbs. However, during my last semester of college and a summer trip abroad (too much guinness!!!!) I gained everything back and am back to my original weight of 185. I am now trying to get back to eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle. I joined the YMCA, and also have a new job starting next week. I am hoping to lose weight and compete in my first 5K in four/five weeks. I plan to use this site instead of weight watchers as way to save money, as my student loan payments have just started. Looking back, I feel as though I wasted a lot of money on the gym, personal trainers and diet programs only to have gained all the weight back again, but I try to remind myself that the skills I learned still come in handy. Today is the official first day of diet/weight loss and I feel great!
