Impatience and autoimmune diseases make for added stress that just worsens the symptoms; been there, done that... so I sure do understand the "I want this yesterday" feeling you just might feel about weightloss and other goals. So as I read your post my first thought was "what does she do for stress relief?" because all the juggling of thoughts and plans could be overwhelming as July 4th creeps closer on the calendar.

Some of the options that work for others may not be possible for you, depending on the types and extent of your autoimmune issues. Arthritis itself is enough of an 'issue', but the very term 'autoimmune' adds to the challenge. But. You CAN do this. Do what is possible; reach for the attainable. Otherwise, you set yourself up for feelings of failure. Step by step is the best approach.

The Getting Started Guide and the SparkDiet are both perfect doorways to the beginning of solid lifelong change. I urge you to spend time and attention on the articles that you encounter there. Extra weight increases pain levels; I know this all too well, so I thoroughly understand that the Mother/Son dance is (was, in my case!) uncomfortable when in pain...

Small changes do add up. Dig into the ingrained 'bad' habits when you read through all the articles in the SDiet, and give attention to every article that addresses things you 'know'. Our most ingrained habits are so thoroughly a part of our way of life that sometimes we just don't realize we are doing them... even though we 'know better'.

Losing 20-25 pounds by the Fourth of July 2014 is totally doable. But even if you should fall short of the goal, getting into a program of activity/exercise that is enjoyable and consistent will guarantee you are better able to enjoy that mother/son dance!

Hello Everyone !! I really need to lose 20 -25 lbs, and I know I cannot do it on my own, because I have tried. So happy to have found Spark People !! I have been battling a couple of auto immune diseases along with arthritis, and really need to lose these extra pounds. I have aged tremendously in the past two years -- I want my life back !! I have no patience and I realize this takes small steps. With your help, support, and encouragement, I know I can do this. My son gets married July 4th 2014 and I want so much to be able to dance the Mother/Son dance with no pain and 20 pounds lighter !! I hate having my picture taken --- as you can see with my profile picture, that is not me(a picture of my Grandmother) Here I go .......... on my way to BETTER HEALTH !!!
