Hi ~ I'm Laurie too! I know what you mean about sugar. Even a little bit makes you crave more sugar and more food in general. I've learned to just stay away from it altogether. I have a trainer who made a sugar-free Christmas challenge for all of her clients and it was great to go thru the holidays not eating sugar. Like Yoda says..."Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."
My sister lives in Oskaloosa, IA and I spent all my summer there as a kid! I love Iowa.I live in Seattle area now.

Hi, my name is Julie. I'm happily married with three boys ages 5,11, & 13. I homeschool my two youngest boys. Finding time for myself these days is a little difficult. The weather is so depressing too. I live in Illinois and it has been such a cold winter. I am on a journey to lose 50 pounds by my anniversary ( the end of June ).

Hi! My name is Lori. I live in Iowa City, IA (home of the University of Iowa and the "Hawks" for anyone who follows college sports - which I don't). I've been married for 30 years, have two kids, two dogs and I'm a full time secretary. I love to read and am currently working my way through Beyond Sugar Shock and Living By the Book. I've lost 25 pounds since June last year and am supposedly at goal weight, but I'm having a lot of trouble maintaining. I'm a sugar addict and keep binging and then getting back on track, so I lose and gain 3-4 pounds every 10 days or so. Not healthy. I want to quit sugar completely once and for all and feel in control of my eating habits.

Howdy all!!! I am so very honored and blessed to be a co-leader for this team. A little about me....I am a 32 year old mom of three little girls 7,5, and 2. I recently became a stay at home mom for the first time. ( I have worked since I was 15 so it's kinda weird) I am a former personal trainer and kickboxing instructor. I am currently getting my trainer certification back since I didn't keep up with it after college. I am trying to lose at least 35 lbs but mostly change to a healthy lifestyle. I kinda let everything go after I got married and had kids. I am here to help all of you in any way I can so if you need motivating or just someone to talk to don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi, I started using SparkPeople several years ago. I liked the site, but didn't stick with it. It seems that life just always gets so busy. So, I haven't lost that weight and have gained more. I am at my highest weight ever. I am starting to have health issues related to my weight. I am married with one child still at home. He will soon turn 18. My other two children live out of state. My basic goal is to be able to keep up physically with the things I want to do. I want to travel-to do that I need to be able to walk comfortably so that I can sightsee. I know my knee problems would be reduced if I lost weight. I turned 49 today, and I don't want to be heavy another decade of my life!

Hi! Today is my first day back, starting again after a huge fall off the wagon.

I have started to walk and plan on an hour a day every morning and follow WW. I am so sick of wearing what fits instead of what I want, I am sick of putting everyone else first, I am sick of not being treated seriously because of my weight. I want to be me again.

Hello. My name is Angie. I joined SP several years ago and have lost touch with it but now I'm back to making changes and getting healthy. I am divorced and have 3 small kids. I work full time and go to school full time.
I'm looking to get healthy and lose weight not only for me but for my kids. My current weight is 232lb and I'm looking to get down to 150lb.
My mom and I are starting a no-carb diet this month to help in aiding in our weight loss. A couple of the girls at work are also looking to lose weight so I have several people to hold me accountable and to take this journey with me.
I'm so excited!

Hi everyone. I'm a 42 yr old mom of 4. Kids range from 22 to 15, so they aren't very little anymore. I've been slightly overweight most of my life. It has just been in the last 10 years that I gained a lot. I started this journey at 265. I have made it down to 210 now. I want to get to 150.

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when I was 19 and pregnant. At this point I just have to take meds everyday and get a blood test once a year. But not having a thyroid anymore does make losing weight a challenge.

I'm hoping to make some real friends on this site who I can help and who can help me to stay motivated.

Hi! I'm 29, will be turning 30 May 4, 2014 and want to lose 30 pounds by then. I have some extra challenges when it comes to losing weight, I have cerebral palsy and am unable to walk and do most exercises. This inability to get out and do things makes me feel bored, lonely and down sometimes, and that probably contributes to my overeating at times, too. But it also means keeping as active as I can and maintaining a healthy weight are even more important for me. I also can't weigh/eat very much without being overweight, as I'm small, 4'11". My current weight of 130 would be fine for many people, but I'm aiming for 100, maybe even less as I still had a big belly when I weighed this much before, though I think a lack of muscle and the "skinny fat" problem may have been plaguing me there, as I lost the weight entirely through diet, no exercise. My weight has varied from upper "normal" range to moderately overweight, but I can't remember a time when I didn't "look fat" to myself, no matter what I weighed. So with that plus my disability, I feel like I'll never be happy with my body and that is partly why I have trouble feeling motivated to lose weight. I'm going to try to be positive and see and treat my body as a part of God's beautiful Creation this year though!

Hello, My name is Debbie and I am a 51 year old wife, mother and grandmother. I have always worked but lost my job in November. I need to lose a significant amount of weight and I need to start putting what I need to do on the top of my priority list. There is always someone wanting me do something for them. We have a full house of people. I take three pills a day for blood pressure and I want to reduce or limited the need to take these. We moved to our current home from another state and I really don't have many friends and know few people in our area. I worked, did for others, and came home. The only "friends" I have are former co-workers who are still working. Good for them, not so good for me.

Thanks for listening,

Debbie

My name is Brigitte, I am 40, and I have 138 lbs to lose to reach my goal. I have used SparkPeople in the past but quit when I quit my diet. I am back with even more weight to lose but I am determined to see it through this time. I have 3 children, 1 dog and 2 cats. You would think they would keep my active, but somehow I always seem to be sitting on the sidelines, watching, and taking pictures. There are so few pictures of me because I am always behind the camera, strategic for sure since I don't like seeing myself at this weight.

My first goal is to lose 10%, or 27 lbs, of my weight. I am taking it slowly this time around because I really want this to be the last time I have to worry about losing weight. emoticon

Hello everyone. My name is Lauri. I'm a 56 year old wife, mother and grandmother and I work full time outside the home. I need to lose 60 lbs to feel good about myself. I struggle with binge eating and motivation (of which I have little). I hate exercise so I have no motivation there. I am very good at telling myself I'll do the right things as far as eating, then excusing away the reason I didn't eat healthy. Because of some big challenges in my life right now, I tend to be negative and would like an accountability partner that can throw some positives my way along with some motivation. I will help you be accountable in whatever way you need me to.

My name is Robin. I am an almost 42 year old mom of a nine year old son that works full time as a genetic counselor 50 miles from my home in New Jersey. I need to lose about 95 pounds in order to no longer be considered obese per my doctor. I need to find a way to motivate myself. I spend my day making sure people can be positive even when they are going through some of their toughest days but can not find a way to be positive in my own life. Not sure how to find an accountability partner but know I can be a great one for someone and know that I really need one.

Disney once said a Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes; I have a dream of renewing my wedding vows in Disney World at a healthier weight of 140 in 2016. Hope that my heart can over power my mind and make it happen with lots of work and sweat.

Hey everyone my name is Amanda and I live in Texas. I'm 32 and the mom to three beautiful daughters 7,5,and 2. I recently decided to quit my job and become a stay at home mom. I am not adjusting well and have gained 15 lbs. I have worked since I was 15 so this is a huge difference for me and I just don't know how to handle it. I'm looking for an accountability partner to help keep me on track. I live in a small town where I don't know people to help me out so I got on Sparkpeople and hopefully I can get the extra motivation I need to stay on track. I have a goal of losing 35 lbs by May 24. My hubby has his reunion that day and I would love to be able to give him some arm candy....lol. I'm 3.5 years older than he is so my confidence is a little shaken about this reunion thing. Overall I would like to give me kids a good sense of a healthy lifestyle that they can carry with them. I look forward to getting to know people on here.

Hi all. My name is Lucy and I recently found and joined Sparkpeople a few weeks ago.

I turned 50 last September and I'm a single mom of two teenagers. I was always thinner. Even after my 2nd kiddo was born I lost the weight and got back down to a size 3/5. Then the divorce came, then loss of a 20 year job, death of my Mom, and overall a bad decade. For a long time I didn't care about my weight or health. Then I started feeling the affects of aging and realized I'm truly not getting any younger and not doing myself any favors by not taking care of myself. After 2 years of grief over my Mom I landed a wonderful job in my chosen career path about a year ago, am back on my feet emotionally, and turning the corner up. I have declared 2014 MY year for good things, including getting myself back. I currently weigh about 194, and I believe I can at least lose 1 to 1.25 pounds per week this year. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi everyone. My name is Karen and I'm 32 years old. I have 2 wonderful girls, ages 13 and 11. About 3 years ago I started a journey to quit smoking and get healthier. I did quit smoking for a couple of months and started working out. Within about 6 months I had lost about 25 pounds. Shortly after losing the weight, I was told that my place of employment was going to be downsizing, I had to have surgery on my hand (I haven't bowled since), and I just gave up on myself. Fast forward to today, I have been a non smoker since Jan. 8, 12, but I have also put on the pounds I lost and doubled it. Right now I am at my highest weight that I have ever been at. I'm here to do things the right way and make myself accountable for my actions.

Hi My name is Phyl (Phyllis) but I like to be called Phyl. I am on my way to a new and improved me. But sometimes I get stuck for things to do. I like to be different and I don't like gyms I like to to workout in the privacy of my home. If there are videos that anyone can recommend that are for people with bad knees that would be perfect. I have just gotten back into the Sparking again, so now that I run my own business from my home I have more time to workout and spend time with my lovely dog (Leo the Lab) I would love to have someone that I can work with to lose weight with. But I have a ways to go 150 lbs worth. but for now 50 lbs by July 31th 2014 because i need to look better then I do right now for my sons wedding in China.

Hello everyone! I'm Lynsey and in July of 2013 I committed myself to a lifestyle change, I finished 2013 41 lbs lighter! In 2014 I'm committed to reaching my goal weight and living a more active, healthy lifestyle. I have big plans for this summer, my son turns 1, I will become an aunt again for the 9th time! (My husband and I both come from larger families, =D. ) I plan on creating rewarding memories and life experiences for son, spending lots of outdoor time with my hubby, landing a teaching job, wearing a size 18 short/capri and riding a roller coaster for the first time in years! I have quiet a ways to go to reach my goal of 220 or less by my son's first birthday but I know with the help of this team, my family and lots of perseverance and dedication I can reach them!

Good luck everyone with their goals this year!

Hello everyone, I'm Katie :D I'm currently living in the deep freeze of North Dakota with my husband, two daughters (5 and 2), and my mother-in-law (all in the same house). I grew up in Fargo and my dad and brother still live here. I am currently working as an office manager at a technology/payments processing company. My true passion is to craft, and my life goal is to open up "Katie's Craft Nook." An ultimate craft room, full of all the equipment it doesn't make sense to purchase yourself. Right now I have settled for blogging in my spare time with the hopes it will lead to opening up shop one day.

I am excited to join this group because I need someone to hold me accountable to my goals. I tend to be awesome at planning and horrible at execution, in most areas of my life actually. I have put on more weight than I should have due to lack of exercise and poor nutrition. I know I need to be the example and motivator for my family, so it needs to start with me. Unfortunately, I am a perfectionist with an "all or nothing" personality. Instead of starting slow, I jump in full boar and when I can't perform to perfection I tend to give up. My problem is I tend to equate perfection with success...and since perfection will never happen, I internalize that "failure" and totally give up.

My goal for 2014 is to "get over myself" and learn that success can be found in the small steps. Just because things don't go exactly to perfection, I have still been successful because I tried...and it's ok to try again. I also want to start taking small steps toward my big goals and stop trying to make a 180 degree turn, because making small changes a little bit at a time is the key to getting the big changes to stick long term.

I know what I need to do, the trick is to change my thinking and old bad habits...easy in theory...insanely difficult in practice!

Katie

Don't quit before the miracle.

Hi my name is Sue. I am from Ohio, but spent the last four years in Michigan going to school. Graduated in July and moved back to Ohio to be closer to my 6 grandchildren. I have four grown children. I need someone to motivated me and help keep me in line. I don't need a personal trainer all I need is someone following me around and slap the unhealthy food out of my hands. LOL.

I have start a few steps to help me with my joinery. I have joined DailyBurn and so far I like it .I plan on starting back up my walking with my walking buddy (Elvis) my little Shorkie. I am in the snow belt so there isn't much walking outside right now, so I make do with my walking tapes.

I don't plan on going back to work till Spring and good weather and it will be part time, I am hoping for at home work. I have a degree in Medical Billing and Coding, so working at home is a possibility. I am leaping head first into adopting a healthier new life style and habits and would like a buddy to join me in the journey.

Hi y'all! I'm so grateful that I've been invited to this forum. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting some of you through your blogs and challenges. I'm plugging away at losing about 40 pounds overall. My small goal is to lose about 10 pounds before my birthday in February! There have been some special challenges in being a stay-at-home mom of two kiddos and not snacking myself to oblivion every day. I experimented with SparkPeople last year a bit but have been full on committed since December 1st. So glad that I finally took the plunge and did this.

Hi & A Big Happy New Year to All,
My name is Sheryl & I live on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia. I'm mum to 9, grandma to 4, & wife to 1 😃 I'm 50 years young and have been over weight all my life, I can't blame my figure on having children 😕
My adult life has been consumed not only with children & work (registered nurse, pathologist) but with yo yo dieting also. Our youngest is going to New Zealand to university this year, so it is my time.
Two years ago I had a car accident breaking my back & neck forcing me into retirement and packing on the kilos... I NEED someone to help me get on track & keep me motivated in this journey...
Looking forward to hearing from someone 😃 👍

Hi,

My name is Sandra and I hail from Manchester, Ohio. It’s a small town about 6 miles away from where I live but it’s the township we are related to. I’ve been a Spark Member since 2013 and I’m a yo-yo dieter. In fact, I lose then gain it back but this year it’s been the worse! I’ve gained 30lbs from my “avg. weight”.

Not to be cliché about making New Year’s resolutions and then abandoning it a couple of weeks later. I really want to change. I was invited to this group and I think the concept is wonderful. What a great way to keep you motivated and to share things like recipes! I think having a partner in crime is a great way to keep you accountable.

I’m looking forward to seeing you guys on the boards!

Best wishes,
emoticon Sandra emoticon

Happy New Year! My name is Terri. I'm married with 3 grown children, 3 grandchildren and one more on the way. I work an hour away from home so my day begins at 4:10 AM and ends anywhere from 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM depending on the day. I was a lifetime Weight Watcher member until I couldn't figure out why the pounds were all of a sudden coming on. I always gave thanks that I had originally lost approximately 35 pounds under the program. But this next stage of life has been putting my body through a whole different scenario. I've been a Spark People member since 2007 and joined to get some fitness/exercise ideas of what I could do at home. At the same time, I realize I need more than just me to continue this journey. I have a great husband but I don't feel I have his total support in this. I would like a buddy who could help keep me motivated and I keep my buddy motivated as well.

Hi,

My name is Sheri and I am 32 years old. I am the mother of a six year old and a two year old. I have always been a yo-yo dieter but over the past 2 years, after I gave birth to my daughter in 2011 I have stayed very close to the same weight. This past summer was the 1st time that I had gone under 165 and unfortunatly between Oct and now, I gained back all 11 pounds. But this time I want it to be different. I want to create a healthy routine that I can stick to. I want to make exercise part of my day instead of something that I feel like I have to do. My goal is to lose 30 pounds to bring me to my goal weight of 145. We are taking a vacation to FL in March and my short term goal is to be able to wear a bikini on the beach and not feel uncomfortable. It's a BIG goal for me since I have not worn one in pubic since 2009, but I'm determined.

I would really like a partner to keep me on track and push me and I will do that same for you.

Sheri

Happy New Year and kudos to all! I am Diem, wife, mother, business woman, yadah yaddah. I have three wonderful daughters from 13 to 22yrs. My oldest has flown the coup to live on the exact opposite coast, (wahhhhh) I had an awesome beginning to the year last year and had brought my weight down to a wonderful goal, then depression hit when I knew my oldest was leaving to become the wonderful adult she is. I have a close relationship with Diet Pepsi (have given it up now, tough). I have a love/hate relationship with running and have set my goals high for the new year as far as racing, but I am determined. I am happy to have found a group here that will challenge and help keep me on track as well as letting me encourage others. Nice to meet you all.

Hi! My name is Robin, and I have been here before. Just can't seem to manage to stay on task. I am on day 2 of my return. And I am feeling pretty positive. I have been doing this yo-yo dieting for most of my life and am now at 340 pounds. Not my highest weight ever, but darn close to it. I am 56 years old and have been trapped inside myself for so long. I have however, put it into my mind and heart that this is it, no more procrastinating. I will follow the plan and I will get up and move and exercise.

Hello, my name is Paula. I am a 40 year old Paramedic. I have a 21 year old who has moved out and doing the college thing. I am divorced and live alone in a small rural community. Trying to find support locally is hard to do. I find people to walk with here and there but no one to hold me accountable, which is something I really need. I hope to find some people on here to build a good support system and friendship with. God has blessed me with a great life and a great career. I find myself being a hypocrite though preaching to patients about their lifestyle and taking care of themselves she I myself have an extra 35 pounds on and don't exercise the way I should. I so frequently in my career see people who's lives take dramatic changes and they say their should ofs and the could ofs. I don't want to wake up someday being in that situation so I have started a bucket list. This year I want to lose the weight, get fit, and make my first marathons. I look forward to this New Year and all its blessings. Good luck and Gods blessing to each and everyone of you!!! We all can do this!!!! emoticon

My my name is Sandy and I am the Mom to a soon to be 9 ad 11 year old. I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life hitting an all time high of 230. I was not even that big when I was pregnant. I have been a long time member of spark but left in May after some discouraging news from my doctor. Now I am back (with diabetes) and trying to lose 52 pounds this year. I love to work out so that is not my problem eatting is. So now that I am newly diagnosed and I don't want to have to take shots I am forcing myself to control my sugar by diet. So this is not something I will be quitting on this is a life journey for me now.

Hi! My name is Renee, and I am 32 years old. I am a mom of 5 (3 step-daughters and 2 of ours) they are 21 (and having a baby!), 16, 14, 11, and 6 years old. I am 4'11 and I am needing to lose 40-60 pounds. (60-65 would be great, but I'm trying to be realistic!) I live in Minnesota and I can't wait to be partnered up with someone so we can see each other through to the goal line!!

Hi, my name is Terry. I will be 54 years old on the 13th of this month. I am and have always been overweight. I am not looking to be "SKINNY" I am wanting lose about 55 pounds, which is do-able in my mind. I am starting out being honest with myself this time, which is extremely rare. I do not want to set myself up for failure by making unobtainable goals. I do not want to be on a "DIET". I want to change my eating habits. I heard it takes 21 days to create a habit, so I am working on my first 21 day goal. (created by ME). I look forward to checking in on this team and being held accountable.

Sparkpeople thank you for helping me lose this weight!!!

Hi all, I'm Regina. Single mom of now 21 year old daughter. I've been very overweight for 10 or more years. I have used food as my comfort, as my friend, as my only lasting & steady companion. It watches movies with me and entertains me when I am bored & lonely. But I know this is not the purpose of why we need food & I want to move food back to its rightful place. Eating to live & not living to eat. I am praying that I stay consistent and get my eating habits on a healthier road.

My eye is on the prize.
God Bless my journey!

I'm Angel Joy (a name from a lifetime ago). I presently am seeking God's will in many areas of my life but the biggest is to lose 35 pounds in 2014. I have a total of 90 to lose but am only focusing on the first 35. I also am trying to start a ministry where I speak and educate on emotional management through God's healing arms. I am in the process of writing a book titled "in the belly of the whale" (a domestic abuse survivors emotional bondage and inability to serve God" and I am 2 years and 9 months away from my PhD in psychology and in school completing that. I am the mother of 3 adult children; 3 grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Phew! no wonder I tire easily. I find it hard to stay encouraged in a healthy life pattern. Emotional eating has been a "friend" for way too many years. May God bless you and bring you peaceful rest.

Hi! I'm Linda and I'm 59 years old. I joined Spark People back in 2010 but have just finally started getting serious about getting this done. I have lost 21 pounds since August and need to lose at least another 30 pounds. This is the point when I tend to start backsliding because I get to comfortable so I'm thinking some accountability might help.

Linda from Central Illinois

Monthly Goal
1. Stay in Calorie Range
2. Lose 2 pounds.
3. Track.
4. Work in Quilting room 3X a week.
4. Start sorting out clothes in closet
4. Exercise 5 days a week

I Am Terrific Tonya Heathco, Founder of National Seizure Disorders Foundation and admin of Positive Seizure Management on SP and NSDF Community on FB. Currently I am finding my way to divorce after 14 years of being married to a very unfaithful and selfish man. Currently, I am managing my own seizure disorder, Currnetly I am getting a=back into a healthier mindset and healthier physical body. I am in theis group specifically because I need accountability. I need someone or a group of someones to say"Just Do It" when I'm wanting to be lazy and the same someones to say "Take Care of Yourself" when seizures have filled my day and guilty feelings of not excercising are popping up. I'm grateful for this team and look forward to meeting new and lifelong friends that will carry each other through 2014 and beyond.

Hi,
I tend to start and stop. I did lose 15 pounds then gained that and then some back. I have a hard time sticking with a program even when I am seeing results.
Happy holidays all.
