Oh, yes. Nothing in it that's not been tested and passed. I'll put the results on the daily check in.

Ruth,
Have you previously passed all of the ingredients in the Sweet and Sour Chicken?
Coming off that 2# up, a really friendly day is advisable to get you with a loss in the morning.

sorry if this is something you know, etc - without me knowing much about you and your process, I just will put that out there! with only good intentions!

Thanks for the great welcome! I will post on the daily check-in. I am feeling more positive after lunch and snack are done. I think I can do without the potato wedge for now. (But after the 20 days, I may have to try just one. lol)

I have been following the menu in the book as that is the one I have. I have been following it pretty strictly. Most reactions have been mild. Just no weight loss, but no gain either. The potato was a two pound gain though, and it was itsy bitsy. Menstrual cycle is no longer an issue for me.

Today is a rest day. I am going to try the sweet and sour chicken in The Plan Cookbook tonight.

Hi Ruth...and welcome!
Wow you have done GREAT so far!!! - Congratulations!!!!!

I don't think you need to give up any food forever, if you don't want to.
And the longer you stick with it the more foods you like will be tested! some will pass, some will fail, and some will be iffy...but
IN MY OPINION, if you REALLY want to have a few potato wedges with cheese and bacon,
you do it....with a few caveats...

you do it...
BUT
you do it knowing that you will support the day well with friendly foods and a potassium hit of avocado - that is one salty craving and you are bound to gain some from that alone!

AND
you don't do it everyday!

AND
THERE MAY BE CONSEQUENCES on the scale, and maybe other physical reactions

AND you treat the results as Data - don't beat yourself up, learn from it...

AND you keep on Plan after - regardless of those reactions
and you keep at it.

I will tell you that I have had some of those kinds of cravies over the 2 years on Plan, and sometimes I have chosen to eat them, and found they didn't taste as good as I wanted them too, or that the results weren't worth it, (but sometimes they are!) AND sometimes, the thing you want actually ends up being okay, friendly, doable. (I have a few things like a chili cheese hotdog in my Friendly list - not the healthiest thing around, but in a friendly day, it works for me.)

The longer you are on TP, the more likely your reactions to some things will be less later on - it really is a process.

What menu are you following? book? workbook?

Please come on up to the daily check-in thread and talk to us (there still are a few of us here)
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=0x59023x601R>70902

or feel free to private sparkmail message me.

Mind you I AM NOT RECOMMENDING that you have those wedges, emoticon
BUT if you do decide to, it won't be the end of the world - probably just a setback - nothing a few friendly days won't heal, though it will also slow down your weight loss process.

And are you SURE there were no other possible culprits on each of the days things didn't pass?
2 dense carbs in a day, Menstrual cycle, etc.

Anyway -
TAKE A DEEP BREATH!!!!!
emoticon

you really are doing fantastic!!!
look how far you've come in such a short time!!!!

Hi. I am Ruth from Tennessee. I am on Day 13 of the Plan. It has gone well for me in many respects as I am down about 20 pounds (10 of those lost pre-plan while preparing foods for the Plan and simply adding the right amount of water daily.) I am also feeling great most days.

I am depressed though as I have had mild reactions to goat cheese, rye, wheat, and pork. Today I had a major reaction to potatoes, gaining 2 pounds. It is hard to imagine going without those foods, even until I reach my goal weight. The Plan menus themselves are getting harder to implement since goat cheese and rye crackers are part of it. I do substitute rice crackers and add more seeds to salads. I keep imagining potato wedges dripping with cheese and bacon.

Hi Jan! and Welcome!

Besides your tastes changing, you will test foods that you like and get a list of friendly foods that go beyond the base foods of The Plan.

Good Luck!

Hi, I have purchased the book and I am reading it. I have begun to order in some of the items needed. Looking forward to finally making it after all the years of failure.

I am a bit worried about the 3 day as some of the foods aren't what I would normally eat or like LOL Well she says the palate changes so I am hoping so.

Hmm - no ideas about the stomach issue but WTG on the weight loss!! I'd keep working it. When I first began TP I had some strange stomach issues but both times they went away quickly. I felt maybe it was just my digestive system adjusting to more fiber??

So I yesterday applied the water intake recommendation. Also I stuck with a vegetable protein lunch and animal protein for dinner. My darling husband brought me some fries from a nearby restaurant - nicely browned, seasoned with spices and sea salt

Today I woke up 2.6 pounds lighter! And this was loosely applying TP guidelines. Let's see how the scale moves tomorrow. I'm planning to do about the same.

I had a Shakeology shake for breakfast, made with coconut milk and an apple and I got this bad stomach cramp all of a sudden - out of nowhere, my tummy convulsed, it was weird, as I hadn't happened anything like that before.

Hi Javaflower!! I'm excited and curious about this way of eating. I find refreshing the fact that there's not much to count, but it's more about paying attention to how my body reacts to food.

I keep hoping Krispy Kream red velvet donuts turn out to be a safe food for me, LOLLOL!!!

I was surprised when I read about the 16 oz at a time consumption for the water - I could chug 32 oz in a single gulp, no problem!

Hi everybody! I'm new to The Plan. I just got the book and read it, after a friend of mine mentioned it. I think this might be the ticket for me, as I've tried quite unsuccessfully to lose weight with every previous strategy that worked well or very well for me in the past.

I'm going to incorporate some of the principles until the first week of January, when I'll dive in full force, as with all the commotion of the holidays is just hard to start with this.

So yesterday I did the water recommendation, and I avoided diet soda. Today I had the lemon water, and I'll shop for some dandelion tea to start having it tomorrow :)

My reason for starting TP was more than just weight loss, it was about finding migraine triggers, reducing inflammation because I was starting to feel some arthritis twinges, depression, etc. I hope it helps you figure it out!

I never could eat a full cup of the flax granola after trying to on Day 1, I ate 1/3 to a half usually.
You're making it your Plan!

Good luck testing goat cheese, if you like it!

hmmmm - The brands of rye crackers I am aware of are Ryvita or Wasa.
My guys and I prefer the Ryvita brand Dark Rye (but that is personal preference.)

They are often with the Kosher foods in the grocery store, or the "health" foods.

There is a store locator search on the Ryvita brand webpage:
internaturalfoods.com/brands/ryvita.
ht
ml

and to be fair, there is a store locator function on the Wasa page, too:
www.wasa-usa.com/products/crispbread
/l
ight-rye/

We really like the crunch texture that these can add to a snack or meal.
But if you can't find them, you could test rye bread if you like rye bread, or you could jump to testing a slice of white bread.

Hope that helps!

Thats amazing..Good for you!

My reasoning to starting this is about the inflammation not necessarily the weight loss.

I only vomited on the second day and day three and today (day 4) I feel fine.

I find that after I take the MSM is when I feel a little nauseous so I am thinking I may discontinue that and only take the liver supplement and probiotics.

As I mentioned before, my appetite has decreased so instead of a full cup of the granola, I may have a half with the blueberries. I am still eating the right foods but smaller portions. Today I try goat cheese and for the life of me, I cannot find rye crackers. Do you think I should just try Rye bread?

Hi FG!

If your vomiting wasn't caused by a flu, and it continues, I would suspect a food or supplement to be reactive to you, but it may just be part of the cleanse. Keep notes of when it happened in relation to eating, etc. This kind of data can be very helpful.

Here is my story.

I began the exercise part of my health improvement journey in 2009 and worked up to walking 15+ miles a week, 5 miles at a time and lost little weight, but got stronger. Then I added the food part of my journey in April 2012 by counting calories, switching to The Plan in Feb 2013. I lost 5.3# the first 3 days on The Plan and felt some shifts. My husband and I did TP together for 3 months at the beginning, but he is not ON it anymore, though he eats what I feed him for dinner - lol.

I have been on TP seriously during some periods and more on maintenance other times over the last 21 months. I find the changes in how and what I eat and the amount of water I drink has improved my health; no migraines or headaches for the first 5 weeks and way fewer after that, more energy, better blood pressure readings AND weight loss, of course. I eat better quality foods more of the time. And one of the nicest things that my husband and I found early on was that we were both much calmer and kinder with each other when we were both eating TP foods strictly. That was a nice perk - one of the best! (unfortunately, he seemed to shift when he moved back to eating his lunch out at work, etc.)

Anyway, I have had TOTAL weight loss of 67# SO FAR, as of today.
Slow, but keeping at it, as I have a ways to go yet.
I am not an example of fast weightloss, partly because I have taken some hiatuses as necessary, life gets in the way sometimes and that is okay.

anyway - feel free to ask questions up in the Daily chat thread or post new threads or join us in the December challenge thread and report your day to day losses. And private message me if you have questions you'd rather not ask in the forums... I'll try to help if I can.

Enjoy the journey!

Java you are a life saver.

Thank you so much. I think this type of food decreases my appetite so I am not eating as much but still following it. Good news, thanks to the vomiting, I am down five lbs in four days and heading to exercise today. How has your experience been?

Thank you,
FG

Hi TryingThePlan28 and Zoe - Welcome!

Our forum is not as active as it was when TP book first came out, that is for sure. There are a few of us here who will try to be helpful if we can.

TryingThePlan28 - You should have a look at the online menus, if you are following the book, as Lyn-Genet has updated them to be more current. Lots of people had issues with the Spicy Veg soup and chickpeas, so she changed that soup out for Cream of Broccoli. Also, Day 4 in the book introduces too many new things in one day and the online menu changes that some too.

Hi,
I am on my third day which I am now eating a little differently as I had horrible headaches and vomited on Day 2. I made the Spicy veggie soup but haven eaten it yet. Since I didn't have dinner on day 2 I decided to have the chicken and brown rice tonight with some broccoli. I wonder if the supplements are making me sick. Has anyone felt this way? The liver detox has not affected me but the MSM is. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Good luck everyone!

Hi, I'm Jane. I am starting the plan this weekend. I will not likely check in on the team in the next few weeks due to some serious time commitments I have until mid-September, but I will be blogging about my experiences for anyone else that may be interested. I posted a pre-plan blog today.

Good Morning. I downloaded the book and started reading it yesterday. I have heard about it from many. After a 2 1/2 month break from Paleo due to a house guest that eats totally differently than we normally do, TODAY is emoticon of taking ME, my fitness and my wellbeing back!

Glad to find a team to help with the many emoticon 's I'm sure I will have.

Hi everyone,

I am on Day 9 of TP today. I am 45 and have a few pounds to lose but I am hoping to regain some energy. I have had chronic fatigue for about 15 years now. And after working with several different doctors, (alternative and traditional) no one has been able to get to the bottom of it.

My husband and I have 5 children ranging from 4-20.

Hi Lynn!

Biggest thing is Day 4, you should probably not test as many things as the book recommends, Lyn-Genet has changed her thinking on that a bit since the book came out. You may want to choose to use the online menus instead, they are all thyroid friendly menus online. lyngenet.com/tips-for-book-readers/

Hi everyone,

Elsa recommended that I join this team since I am beginning TP on Friday. I'm very excited and hope to find out that I'm not reactive to so many foods I love, especially potato chips and chocolate!

I have four little children at home that keep me busy and I'm probably going to have lots of questions for you guys. Since I'm on thyroid med, a low dose, I'm going to start the thyroid menu.

I'd appreciate any advice for a newbie. emoticon

Hello everyone! My husband (33) and I (40) just started The Plan. We are on Day 2 today, and loving it. We live in the Middle East, so some of the foods and supplements are really hard to come by - or ridiculously expensive. So far we have managed to find most of what is required.

Our biggest challenge, I anticipate, will be that we both love to travel and travel for both work and pleasure several times a year (or even just weekend getaways).

I'm excited about learning more from all of you, and hopefully being useful in terms of supporting others.

I'm all in!

Hi Elsa and Welcome!

there is no hard and fast rule about your age - getting started and keeping your age as part of your data is the only way to really know.

IMHO, the best way to start The Plan is to plan ahead a bit, you don't HAVE to read the book all the way through, you can jump in, but doing some shopping and food prep in advance of the day you start can be very helpful to your ability to stay on course, especially if you end up being one who has detox symptoms in the first days.

Do you suggest I read it all the way through or just get started? Also I am right on the edge age - wise. Will that affect things at all? I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself. I am Michelle and just started The Plan on Saturday. I am loving it so far. My friend Marilyn introduced me to The Plan and am so excited to see where it takes me.

I am turning 50 this year so would love to get healthier and maybe down a size or two, ok 10 emoticon

I have two dogs, have a job with a long commute and am on the phones all day so am a bit worried about getting enough water in.

Can't wait to chat with y'all.

hi Java, Am trying to get back on the team -- I was here last summer and was unable to do the whole 22 days. I was able to hold the weight I did lose but have gained back a few pounds. I am still in Chicago and surviving the winter of discontent. I
Have been working and am on Day 9 with much better success following everything than I was the last time
