i started with 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon..but i cooked them in the bacon fat in the pan plus a knob of butter for flavor and extra fat. sometimes i'd slice some sharp cheese on, too.

Like KD says..do NOT be hungry...eat more of the keto foods if you are!

If you decide to fast, which is not necessary for keto, I would wait until you are several months in and have your "sea ;egs" under you. Fasting doesnt work for all..it caused huge problems for me. It works great for others. but I would suggest getting the feel for keto before you do anything like that, then decide.

Hi Gammy - I would add as far as the amount of food goes, eat something normal sized, like James suggested, but if you find yourself hungry, especially in the first few weeks, eat more. You should NOT be hungry on keto. If two eggs doesn't cut it, eat 3 plus more bacon. Try and wait until you are hungry until you eat again if possible so you can start to recognize your hunger/satiety signals, and then when you eat, don't stuff yourself. Also though, don't leave the dinner table unsatisfied.

DietDoctor.com is a free resource with many keto recipes. Everyone has things they like. And you can usually google "keto _______________" (whatever food you like) and find a way to make what you like in a keto fashion.

Help is here if you need it! And Happy Thanksgiving!

I also do the intermittent fasting but because of my health condition I sleep a lot longer than most people so that helps. I often sleep 12 - 15 hours or longer. So that's a nice long fast already and then I skip breakfast too.

Hi there -
I'm finding the intermittent fasting thing seems to be helping me as much as keto... I'm not as consistent as I'd like to be. But I try to get it all eaten and then not eat several hours before bed and not eat immediately after waking up. Some days it's a 12 hour spread, sometimes it might be more like 16 hours in IF, with all my food is eaten within 8 hours It varies from day to day and other interruptions and pushback and whatever else going on... but when it happens, it seems to go well.

SONFLOWERGAMMY,
don't worry about starting a new topic to introduce yourself.

As DONNAJEAN pointed out, you don't need supplements, and Ketone products, just real food. The only thing needed is the right kind of real, grocery store food.

For example one can buy products with ketones. Bt the point is that the ketones should come from within, from burning fat, either your own, or fat you eat.

To answer your question on quantity of cheese and peppers in your omelette, just a normal amount. Like maybe a 2 egg omelette with 1/3 of a green pepper, and cheese the size of a little more than you thumb size. Nothing crazy, just what easily fits in the omelette.

DONNAJEAN,
that is a great post, and very motivational. I'm glad you are finding that you are eating things you like and don't feel like you are missing out. Yes thanksgiving is coming up in the US (long over for Canada). You are totally right. There are plenty of Keto friendly things for thanksgiving. One really just needs to pick and choose. The turkey is fine of course, as are many of the veggie possibilities. It is a matter of not eating mashed potatoes, sweet desserts and some of the higher carb veggies. If one looks at my 6% list one can find a whole host of veggies that fit the bill. I admire your commitment. Yes, if you eat everything possible, because it is thanksgiving, then one can find reasons at other times too. Like Christmas, or an office party, or a birthday, etc. Each time one eats off plan, to any significant degree, it impacts weight loss that day, and probably for 2 more.

Thanks for sharing that info because I've been reading lots online trying to sell supplements for stuff if you're on Keto. I was wondering if that was true :o)

Hi there, you have had a really rough road haven't you? You definitely could use a break. I have a lot of health problems too. I also don't have my gall bladder.... or appendix. I have no more disposable parts so I need to take care of myself. I have only been on this diet about 2+ weeks and I'm down 9 lbs. I do use the tracker and track my calories, carbs, fat, and protein. That just helps me know I'm doing things right and not second guess myself if I don't lose. I've never been able to stick to a diet before but with this I can eat food I actually like so I don't feel like I'm missing out. Thanksgiving is coming up and my son actually asked me if I planned to stick to my diet during the holidays or just take a break during that time like I have before. I told him I'm not going to stop and he said, "Because you're actually losing weight this time, right?" Yes, he's right. I'm at 9 lbs lost and I want to get to 10 or more and not gain it all back in one day because it was a holiday. This diet is the only one that has giving me hope that I can get there and I can do it without hurting myself trying to exercise. I have chronic pain and fatigue.

Good luck to you. I know this can help you. Just beware of people trying to sell you things you don't need. You don't need to buy any special products for this diet. It's all gimmicks and you don't need them for this diet.

First, I appologize. I didn't want to create a new topic just reply to the introduce yourself thread!
Second, thanks for the suggestions and support!
Third, how much bacon, cheese and bell pepper with the 2 egg omelet do you suggest?

I agree with Holly.

For now bacon and eggs for breakfast. Maybe an omelette with cheese, or some bell pepper cut up in if too.

No juices, like Apple of orange, or any sweet juices. Tea with nothing in it, or maybe a little cream. Same for coffee.

Meats as Holly suggested. Salads. Don't worry about fats like fatty salad dressing. Fat is not the problem. It is carbs, sugar being the worst, but other carbohydrates are not much better.

We are here for you!

Hi Gammy!!

Betting keto will be your answer!! I lost 132 when NOTHING else worked. nothing. i am not hungry. no cravings. you just have to make it through the first week or two and that all should subside. I dont have ANY desire to cheat..and i'm a professional pastry chef!! I work around carbs all day every day..and never so much as want to taste.

please ask anything you want. feel free to friend me and message me whenever you would like..i'm happy to help!!

Glad to have you with us.looking forward to getting to know you!!
OH..and i started keto at 57. i have no gallbladder either..and i had the falling out hair..one of the great things about keto is..no calorie counting..and little to no hunger!!

easy menu

bacon and eggs cooked in butter for breakfast..use the bacon fat to cook, too..add cheese if you want.

Lunch..whatever meat..pepperoni, beef log, any leftovers just be sure they are no or very low carb. add cheese..i roll up sliced meat in cheese and have that..or melt mozzarella and pepperoni!! Hard boiled eggs are great, too, just be sure to add butter or other keto fat!

supper: whatever fatty meat you have. i add a small salad with cheese, oil and vinegar. or some sauteed zucchini or broccoli or cauliflower.

all that fills me up for the day!!

Sought help in early 80's through O.A. with short term success.
Eventually gave up.
Tried O.A. again in the early 90's and found FAA which has a sugar, flour and wheat free food plan that was weighed and measured, reported to a sponsor and very low fat-reaching only 1 tbs. if fat daily. Lost 100 lbs in about 10 months and my gallbladder plus a lot of hair!. Started slipping and sliding on the food plan eventually and began eating fast foods and sugars again. Gained back all the weight plus some.
Tried many times to go back on that food plan making it a few days or a week or two. On and on until I just quit trying to do much of anything.
Found sparkpeople and began trying to lose weight again. I've been up and down since joining but mainly up ( have gained another 60 lbs over the years) by losing 10-20 pounds then gaining it plus a few extra!
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2009.
I find myself 200+ pounds overweight at the age of 56. Sick and exhausted and unable to stick to a plan. I'm now disabled and homebound. Embarrassed and depressed over getting in this shape. I'm currently on several medications for afib and other conditions. Have had rounds of steroids many times in the past.
I'm desperate to find something I can stick to and that won't leave me feeling hungry all the time.
So, here I am. Praying that this type of plan can work for me.
Reading all i can on Keto but really want to get started ASAP on a very easy to follow menu. Any suggestions?
