they told me i needed one at 50 and i was so horrified of the whole thing i put it off till i was i think 53. my doc said ok..either do it or find another doc..we've worked too long and hard o get you healthy for you to chance this (due to some of the really radical meds i had to take for the lyme, that caused great damage, i was at higher risk)
after it was done i felt like an idiot that i'd worried so about it..lol. wish every test was that easy!!
i wanted to stay awake and watch..the doc said no. he did let me wake up for the last 5 mins, though, so i could see. once he realized i dont get queasy he said next time remind him and i can watch. but i still have 3 more years before i have to do it again!

Yay for you Holly - always nice to get unexpected money!!

I had a colonoscopy when I turned 50. I agree - much ado about nothing. They said I was fine, come back in 10 years. Now it's 10 years later, I expect the same this time.

I've heard the prep is easier on keto/IF. That nasty stuff tastes terrible. That's really my only complaint. Maybe I can have pills this time to clean me out.

Turns out I was exceptionally chatter under anesthesia. Sigh. Talked their ears off. They must be used to it....

KD...if you've never had a colonoscopy...i was unhappy about having one. REALLY unhappy. and nervous and scared. and when it was done i laughed at my silliness. it was nothing. took not long, no pain involved, not even uncomfortable. and noone that told me that beforehand did i believe..but, really, its not bad
and. on friday? i got a check in the mail for $60 from my insurance company..just because i was "proactive and got a mammogram and a colonoscopy" that was a surprise!!

IWANT Chinese food is what I get my husband when I'm not cooking!! He loves it. Me, not so much.

I also get labs done in November. Plus a colonoscopy. Looking forward to that. (not)

MICHIGANLORI: Hello and welcome. Holy crap – that’s some list of “pros”….. Keto has certainly been good to you.........

I have a physical schedule for November and am very curious how my blood tests will come out also. I’ve also been on keto for 4 weeks now. I notice I am missing Chinese food (I'm really surprised I’m still alive not having any in over 4 weeks now - LOL), but it’s not a craving, I just miss it once in awhile.

KDGIRL: yes, there sure is a bit of prep work at home….. I don’t think I’ve ever measured and cooked so much in over 25 years……..

UNIQDRGNFLY ~ I'm using the calculator from the CarbManager app. Every week I've been tweeking my macros to find the sweet spot. When my face started breaking out I reduced my fat and increased my carbs. I'm still trying to find the right combination for me.

I track everything I eat.

Net Carbs: 7% - 20g
Protein: 25% - 73g
Fat: 69% - 90g

Hi Lori, may I ask what your macros are and which calculator you used?

Hi Lori and WELCOME!!! you are doing great!!! just hang in and keep up the good work!! and if you can, read Cholesterol Clarity...it will clear up a lot of the misconceptions on your blood cholesterol readings before you go to the doc.
the rest should all be good!!

Hi Lori - welcome!! You've done great so far - and there are many more changes to come. The acne will probably work itself out over time.

Beer - yes, it's hard to give up something you like so much. Maybe wine once in awhile? Or just go and socialize.

I have found that most places are really willing to work with you. As long as it's not a combo meal (lasagna etc) you can just order your meat and veg. Loaded broccoli instead of potato. Double asparagus instead of rice and asparagus. Etc. Etc. The food is yummy. The prep work at home is more tedious I think, but definitely worth it.

Hi from Lori.

I started Keto 4 weeks ago. After a major life stressor my carb craving increased so I needed a hard reset.

Info:
- I'm tracking daily using CarbManger app.
- It's still hard to get my head around the 'Fat' intake.
- I'm heading for a life-change (it's an age thing)
- I'm doing intermediate fasting.
- I test my ketone levels with strips.
- I take electrolytes and nutritional yeast daily
- Getting a lot of info from Dr. Eric Berg videos.

Here's my status after 4-weeks:

PROS:
1. I've been dealing with insomnia for 3 years. I'm finally sleeping through the night!
2. My severe nighttime muscle cramps are almost gone.
3. My brain fog has improved.
4. Anxiety level has improved.
5. I don't need naps anymore. I have so much more energy.
6. I don't crave crabs anymore. I don't SNACK between meals!

CONS:
1. Acne/cysts has hit me hard. My face felt like on fire for a week. I've never dealt with acne before. Not sure if it's related to hormones or Keto. I have it somewhat under control now but noticed a new inflammation today.
2. I miss visiting my local craft brewery spot.
3. Eating out is a challenge.

BTW: Along with my PROS. I've dropped 10 pounds (just a plus).

I feel so much better that I'm continuing but I really worried about my physical in 4 weeks. Not sure how my blood tests will come out.
