Yes, I'm definitely gonna look for one with no fillers. I don't like using my carbs (and even protein) on a pill.

I tried to look mine up - it's not even being produced anymore. Too bad because I really liked it. I use it for constipation and eliminating leg cramps.

Brands anyone?

Magnesium citrate has 2 grams of carbs per 2 pills (the recommended dose) and so does osteo bi-flex. Thats 4 carbs before I even eat anything.

Its hard to imagine. I looked at some nutrition labels on the internet. Flintsone multivitamins have less than 1 gram of carbs per tablet. You'd probably need to consume 5 a day, or something like that to get 1 gram of carbs.

On the other hand Flintsone dummies have 3 grams of sugar per gummy.

So it all depends on what you are consuming. If it isn't kiddy type candy sweet things its probably about zero.

I don't. There are carbs in supplements/vitamins?

I'll have to check mine out.

Was wondering if any of you count the carbs that are in your daily vitamins/supplement each day?

Which is why my wine drinking has gone WAAAAY down. I used to love wine. Now I appreciate it on an occasional basis only.

IWANTTOSUCCEED,
yup alcohol is both a poison, and pure calories. Your body can do nothing with it but burn it for energy (movement and heat).

Carbs are about the same. Just that carbs are not a poison. They raise blood sugar (which alcohol doesn't), and that makes insulin kick in, and insulin is a fat storage hormone, so carbs slow weight loss in a different way.

Fat and protein are flexible fuels, they can be burned for energy, or they can be used to build body parts. For example there is a lot of protein in your muscles, and there is a lot of fat in your brain.

But if you are looking for weight loss alcohol and carbs are the most useless fuels.

Thanks James. I think your reply makes up my mind. I want to lose weight so I'll just stay away from the gin, etc.

IWANTTOSUCCEED,
not an alcohol drinker, but gin is sort of Keto friendly, its pretty pure. Certainly not Keto adverse the way beer or a number of wines can be.

Indeed wine might be consumed in small amounts if not too sweet, like a dry dry red.

But alcohol certainly delays weight loss, and in some sense delays Ketosis.

Yes, pure alcohol doesn't mess up ketosis the way carbs do.

Carbs take you out of ketosis, and delay getting back into ketosis, as you store them too. Pure alcohol also stops you from burning fat, but for a shorter period, as you can't store alcohol, you have to burn it immediately.

It is...as is whiskey, rum, vodka..unflavored.
Just be aware your body processes it first as it’s poison.
James explains this one better than I can!!

I really have not much to add, just one question.... Why are you drinking 3 quarts of water a day? Are you thirsty?

I take magnesium for leg cramps and regularity. Seems to work for me. But occasionally I feel a twinge.

I recently heard on Dr. Eric Berg's podcast that Apple Cider Vinegar can help with cramps (and more) too. Might want to try it!!

ok.i looked up leg cramps at night and one of the things was dehydration, but now i'm wondering if you werent flushing the salt out of your system. Keto in itself is like a diuretic, and drinking alot flushes more.
I just dont know...but that does make me wonder!!

Hi! Thanks for your answer. Yes, I was drinking too much water, I think. 3 qts; a day. Yes also to the taking salt and calcium. It was a problem I was unable to figure out, for sure.

Hi Carole..
Did you check with your doctor on this? I would never EVER recommend taking potassium (other than that found in food and in a multivit) without a doctors supervision. They can do bloodwork to recommend...too little or too much is dangerous..and i speak from experience and many, many ICU stays due to potassium levels.

that said...were you drinking plenty of water? dehydration is a big cause of the cramps. Eating plenty of salt? Calcium?

I would definitely speak to your medical professional about it. If your potassium is low they can help with a prescription.

are the cramps totally gone now?

Hoping you can find a resolution to this!!!

Hi folks! I followed keto very faithfully for about 5 months from Jan. 1 on. I lost weight and in many ways I felt so much better. My problem is I had leg cramps every single night that kept me from sleeping well. I tried hard to balance my minerals - I took magnesium, potassium and sole salt every day. I quit the diet because it got so bad and I got discouraged. I just read an article about eating more alkaline foods to counteract the acid produced by a keto diet. If anyone can help with this problem, I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks!!
Carol
