Holly (NIGHTSKYSTAR), to add to what you wrote about not feeling so exhausted eating Keto ...

Its not like I'm jittery with loads of energy, but I have enough. When I help people with yard work, or moving, or things like that, I'm never sore the next day. I suspect it is lactic acid buildup that really impacts people the next day, but in eating Keto you are burning fats, not carbs, so no lactic acid.

I'm not a runner, but I bet one even recovers more quickly after a run too. So many good reasons to not fuel your body on essentially sugar.

welcome!! i echo both James and KD...

I feel so much better on keto. I was working at a horse show yesterday, and my booth helper, who lost about 100 with gastric sleeve surgery, was asking me how i could ever stay keto. I told her..i feel so much better. if i never lose another ounce that alone keeps me on it.

I'm clearer mentally. used to be at the end of a long, hot, dusty horse show day i was exhausted and down for days. Last night i came home, took care of my dog. Did all the financial and other paperwork for the show, took a swim, and THOUGHT about mowing the lawn (it was too dark by then or i would have)

someone yesterday called me the energizer bunny. I have an impossible schedule. i used to drag through it...praying for night and bed. Not so with keto!!

You are going to love how you feel!

Oh no! I said the one reason was those nasty 10 lbs. Just not my main reason and yes they are leaving. Down 4 now and will weigh in on Weds. I have just spent the last 2 years trying to get rid of them on low Cal and they were not budging. They are now :)

THanks for your encouragement James!

Welcome to Keto LDHZY - I suspect you are so close to your end goal your weight loss will be much slower than the typical newbie.

It is a great way of eating!!

Welcome.

I think that eating Keto is a healthy way to eat, and weight loss may be a side effect, but is not the primary goal of eating Keto.

That said, it is curious that you've lost nothing eating Keto (you last 10 pounds), because typically one looses about 5 pounds of glycogen (carbs and water) at the start of eating Keto. Not body fat, but weight loss nevertheless. So that is strange.

I will vouch for the mental clarity. I had real memory problems before eating Keto, and they've improved since then. I think that alzheimers diseases is a problem of getting carbs into the brain to get it to function.
type-1 diabetes: no insulin produced in the pancreas
type-2 diabetes: cells don't react to the insulin
type-3 diabetes: insulin resistance in the brain

I'm suspecting that I myself have type-3 diabetes, and eating Keto, and fueling my brain with mainly Ketones has saved me from that problem.

I find it expected that your LDL and HDL have improved too. Cholesterol problems are usually cause by an internal issue, a side effect of eating too many carbs:

I am also a runner. I run/walk 3-4 times a week and do cross training another two days. My favorite run is a 10K. I am currently training for my 5th Half Marathon which I will run in Sept. Second one for the year. I have only been running for 4 years.

Switching from carbs to fat as your primary fuel does take a good number of weeks to switch to and be efficient at, so running in the first 2 or 3 weeks is indeed harder. All calories are not the same. Though I'm not a runner I have to expect that it will get easier week to week. For long distance running I'm going to guess that in another few weeks you'll do just as well as before, if not better.

I am now four weeks into Keto. I have 10 lbs that are just refusing to leave. That I hope will be an added bonus. My main purpose of changing the way I have eaten is my health and mental wellness. There is a major history of both Cardiac and Dementia in my family. I do have a minor Cardiac condition that has greatly improved with my activity and weight loss over the past 4 years.

I am also a runner. I run/walk 3-4 times a week and do cross training another two days. My favorite run is a 10K. I am currently training for my 5th Half Marathon which I will run in Sept. Second one for the year. I have only been running for 4 years.

Now the experiment part. I have read about the effects of Keto on mental clarity and some of the work on Alzheimer's. Would love to find a way to decrease my chances. I also want to prove weather this is a correct path with the cardiac cancers.

Last week just 3 weeks into Keto I had blood work done and compared it to blood work I had done last November when I was on a high carb diet. My the LDL, HDL, and Trig have all improved. My ratio has always been good but now it is even better.

First two weeks into Keto were somewhat hard as far as my running. I felt weak and drained. Since then my energy has improved and yesterday I was 4 seconds off from a new 5K PR.

I am interested in always learning more :)
