So, here's my story: I am vegetarian but my daughter is not. She has had an amazing weight loss and health benefit from going Keto recently and meanwhile, I've been exercising faithfully and staying on my own diet (no wheat, no sugar) and taking off like 1 or 1.5 #s per week. She is not all that young, fifty something.

She lives on our property and pays her "rent" by cooking and cleaning for us. Win/win. My DH is a carnivore and sweet eater, skinny and healthy and active at 80 years. Go figure. So it has been her job to prepare meals for him while I deal with my own dietary needs. That has been a huge load off of my mind!

I've started to do keto vegetarian style by using plant based protein powder in almond milk, eggs, vegan meats and cheeses, etc. Today, she baked fudgy, chewy brownies! And I was just up from a long nap and hungry! Oh. So. Tempting!!

I guzzled water which helped a little but in the end I ate a chicken thigh and a chicken breast, both fried. Finally, I could resist the chocolate. Close call!!

So, I'm still working on my own style of keto program but I want to make sure that, with all the fat I'm taking in, I don't get too many carbs. I'll probably eat eggs and avocados until I'm sick of them. (heavy sigh)

Oh. I meant to say "Hello". So, hello everyone. emoticon

Every day in every way I'm getting better and better.

JAZZYGF,
I can relate. I had brain surgery about 9 years ago, and I came out of that with an altered personality. For a while I lost all sorts of inhibitions. I said things to friends that absolutely floored my wife. I was very blunt.

I came out as "James 2.0", a new me. Part of the new me is some form of anxiety that wasn't there before. I'm always looking for ways to be discontent about things, and I fight that all the time.

Be prepared for a kickback when carbs run out at about the end of day 2, or perhaps day 3. Feeling weak, dizzy, or a headache. Take extra fluids, just water, and some extra salt. Actually a lot of extra salt. I dissolved about a tablespoon of salt in a glass of warm water, drank it quickly. This is the fastest cure for a headache in the transition time. A few weeks into Keto and chances are your electrolytes have rebalanced and the headaches are gone.

This diet is about making food choices. You can have a look at the post with the 6% food list if you want a simple list of what to eat and what not to eat.

Welcome!

It is my view that eating Keto is healthy, and great for controlling, or helping control type-2 diabetes to a great degree. Even if you don't fully embrace Keto, you will see how to eat healthier.

I view the excessive carbs in North American food as being a big issue. Sugar is carbs refined to an extreme degree. White crystals ... 100% carbs. The more refined something is to get to its carbs, the harder it is on blood sugar. Wheat also similar. Refined to a white powder.

Keto is extreme in how low carb it is, it is focused, if you have a higher carb budget for a day it can help lower particular meals. However I think you will find you feel better, and loose weight, and have more even energy across the day very much lower carbs.

If you saw my recent breakfast post on the general chat discussion, you will see I had waffles with syrup and strawberries for breakfast, and it had 7 grams of carbs. The North American adult average is 330 grams a day. Keto is about 20 for women. So virtually zero in comparison.

But even if you go low carb, around 70 grams a day it will make a huge difference, and 7 for breakfast leaves a lot then for the rest of such a day.

If you are taking any diabetes meds to lower you blood sugar, then measure blood sugar and take care. If you don't eat as many carbs you don't need as much medication. I went from maximum dosage of pills possible to zero in three days. I found that my blood sugar was under control with no medication, ... I just forgot to take my pills and was very surprised.
