if you like the supplements i dont believe most will hurt you..however..it makes my head hurt when i see someone suggest potassium..NOONE should be taking extra potassium unless overseen by a doctor!!
PLEASE trust me on this..too much can throw you into cardiac problems, just as too little can. what you get in a mulitvit is fine, but to take extra you should really consult with your doc and have regular bloodwork done if you are going to supplement, to be sure you arent overloading on it.
again..trust me. i have to take it..i get bloodwork every 3 months to be sure...and it gets adjusted often. its a dangerous vitamin for a layperson to self prescribe. There may be others, but i personally know about this one. too many ICU trips for me to not speak up..all because of potassium issues...

Carol thats great you never got the flu!! i doubt it was the fasting, but betting the salty bone broth did it. i just would have a few sips of chicken broth or powerade zero and it would go away..i didnt get it till week 3, and i only had a headache and was cranky. i use table salt liberally, and when i do the saltwater twice a day its with the pink salt.

Thanks Alesha / PIPPAMOUSE
I tend to use alot of Bone Broth and have been adding salt when a recipe calls for it so I guess my electrolytes must be okay, as I've felt GREAT since day 1 on Keto. I sort of feel like I've missed out on the whole Keto Flu experience. But I fasted for 2 days before I started so maybe thats it.

So glad I don't need to buy any more supplements to get electrolytes! Taking my fill right now!
Love the Nucific's bio-x4
Sort of feel like I've been taken for a ride with the Dr Gundry products: Vital Reds & PREBIO Thrive
DH found LivFit SuperFood Blend at the grocery store which I kind of like.
Plus Multivitamin/mineral
Plus extra 1000 mg Vitamin C (since I still smoke - I know Bad Carol)

And Since I just ordered a 6 month supply of the Bio X4 they sent me a free bottle of Krill Oil

Gosh - no wonder I'm not getting enough calories! Who could possibly consume all this and 3 full meals too?

i do half a teaspoon of salt am and PM..due to keto's diuretic properties, my doc said i needed to do this. so i do. never questioned it...
and other than for 2 days 3 weeks into keto, i had no flu. and that was just crankiness and headache..and went away the second i used some powerade zero or chicken broth.

Hi HAPPYWANDERER2, Welcome to the group.

@JUSTFURKIDS symptoms of being off with your electrolytes are often the same or similar to those associated with Keto Flu. Not usually nausea or sugar cravings, but the brain fog, weakness, dizziness, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, etc. If you have any of these, add salt. If that doesn't do it, its likely another electrolyte being too low. But, all electrolytes have an ideal amount, and going too high is bad too.

emoticon Hello HAPPYWANDERER2

Welcome back! I don't have any advice for your situation, but seeing your story I do have a couple questions for the group.

What is the best way to increase electrolytes? How do you tell if they're down? I drink at least 90 oz water per day...usually 10 or 20 ounces over that benchmark. (plus coffee) I feel great...but inquiring minds want to know. emoticon

I’m new to Spark people. I have done keto before, for over a year. I am 65 years old and was riding a recumbent bike with a retired bike riding group, and also hiked once a week with a women’s hiking group. I had changed my body over to fat burning and had broken past all my fitness goals. Keto REALLY works!
I had to stop working out though, because I have recently had both a knee operation and immediately followed that with a shoulder operation.
My doctor did not like my Keto and begged my to eat carbs before my surgeries. I should not have listened to him. I am now pre-diabetic and had to be put on Metformin...plus I gained 12 pounds while laying around recuperating!
I am now going back onto Keto!! Here is what I learned from my past experience, and will be working on as I begin my new journey:
#1 More electrolytes!! I had terrible leg cramps before, so bad at night that if I tried to get up, I would end up on my knees, and I also had restless leg syndrome. Magnesium and potassium weren’t helping. I found that if I drank a glass of water the cramps would immediately subside, but I was still extremely dehydrated! I started drinking more water, but then I found out that I was drinking so much, that I was washing the potassium out of my kidneys, which was causing me to actually become even more dehydrated!
I had been too scared of my high blood pressure to take in more salt. The minute that I upped my electrolytes the problem went away. My blood pressure returned to my normal readings, but I still am hoping that it will drop eventually.

#2. I bought a keto breathe analyzer and found that I had trouble staying in Keto, even when under 20 carbs, because I was still taking in too many calories. I was tested and found that I had metabolic syndrome. The Metformin is supposed to help with that. I am only 5’ tall and that, coupled with my age, means that I can not eat as much as the normal person_-even on keto.
My goal now is to up my electrolytes and cut down the amount that I eat, while trying to return to my past fitness level. It will be new territory for me, and I would love it if anyone like me has managed to lose weight, and could tell me what they eat and how much. Thanks !
