yeah as i said i dont have any of the keto line on the website yet. its all been word of mouth. the stuff is SO expensive it doesnt pay to do much of it...a small bag of almond flour is $11...to make the chocolate chips is horribly expensive, most people dont want to pay what i need to get to just stay afloat.

I do but nothing on it is keto, as of yet. the most popular thing is the chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream, but i do vanilla also, and chocolate chip cookies, and chocolates. those are the things that ship well.

Website is www.adirondackdelectables.com

and i'm on facebook at Adirondack Delectables

One of the ketovangelist coaches, Elaina Wang, can vouch for me..LOL. she started this whole thing asking me if i could!

Angela i already have a Keto line..i ship all over the country and just shipped out to Hawaii...and today got orders for keto chocolates and keto chocolate chip cookies..i make my own sugar free chips, too...
people order like 2 cupcakes..always makes me laugh when the shipping is more than the item, but they are seriously good, and people want to keep the sweeteners down, so they order just 2 for a birthday or special occasion.

Janet - You've given me some great ideas for this years holiday festivities. You must have the most amazing willpower. I'm not sure I'd be able to resist if I was in a bakery. That's awesome for you!

I'm curious if you've or will try some keto bakery options to eat and to sell? I'd be interested to see just how many people would opt for the lower carb options.

James - I agree with you. I think that a lot of what the Dr.'s push are more drugs than attempting to fix the problem. That to me is so much worse. I've heard my friend say, "Oh well I'll just take an extra pill later" when they opt for dessert.

I have more knowledge of their disease than they do. I'm constantly asking, "What are your numbers?". None of the times I've ask have they even known. One of them wasn't even sure what a "carb" was. Both those two literally found out they were diabetic by being rushed to the emergency room because their BS was so high.

So many people don't want to change their lifestyle because they're comfortable even though their solution is much cheaper in the long run. I'm on a quest now to try to find a Doctor that believes in the ketogenic diet and not have their first instinct to be drugs.

Angela,
the Canadian diabetes association is aware of counting grams of carbs:
www.diabetes.ca/diabetes-and-you/hea
lt
hy-living-resources/diet-nutrition/cR>arbohydrate-counting

and judging from that page one "carbohydrate choice" is 15 grams of carbs.

Though they don't say what the amount of carbohydrates to aim for, they clearly recognize this as an issue. That page says things like:
"Make healthy food choices"
and
"Focus on carbohydrate", "Set carbohydrate goals"

If one carbohydrate choice is 15 grams, 260 grams would be about 17 choices, like about 6 choices per meal. So really, that is hardly a choice, 6 per meal would be no restriction at all. So I don't think the Canadian Diabetes association would be that high. Lets say it was 8 choices per day, that would be 120 grams of carbs. That is the high end of low carb, and really not a restriction at all. But the Diabetes association seems to want to push the idea of using drugs, in combination with lower carbs. In my opinion they just don't go low enough in the carbs.

Angela i had about a week. i own a bakery and am around carbs 24/7. when i set my mind to something i do it 100%, so cheating wasnt an option. but i planned for when i would go off..which was going to be 3 weeks in, for Thanksgiving. ;lol Thanksgiving came and i had a blast figuring out a meal i could have with no feeling like i was missing something.
i bought a frozen cauliflower casserole the label proclaimed "you will never want mashed potatos again!! low carb and delicious..taste just like mashed potatos only BETTER!!

i took one bite and had to leave the table. they were HORRIBLE. My mother, who thinks hospital and airplane food is wonderful, liked them. noone else would touch them..except my stepdad who took a bite at my mothers urging and got a sour look on his face and said NO. lol

but i made myself a 2 tablespoon serving of cranberries sweetened with swerve. the turkey was fine how it was. i made gravy from drippings, heavy cream and cream cheese, and everyone else wanted mine not the usual. i made carbquik cheese biscuits, which again everyone wanted. i made myself some broccoli with cheese melted on it...and the only things i really missed were the potatos, stuffing, and pie..and i made sure to eat enough of everything else i didnt miss them.
not one person was weird about it..thank goodness. i was lucky. now most of them are doing at least partial keto..due to my success. which is pretty cool!

Thank you everyone for all the welcoming.

During the time after the storm I lived with my brothers family for a while with my 4 year old niece who is addicted to tomato soup and chicken nuggets and lastly, ice cream. I was trying about 85% to eat keto but they did not have any keto approved foods.

Then when I was asked what I wanted to holiday dinner I was almost stoned for saying just meat and veggies... I got "the look". But they are more than willing to compliment me when they see I'm healthier. Which is fine with me :-)

I had a friend of mine and his sister both diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I was amazing at the diet their doctors put them on. They were told to eat something like 250 carbs or lower. They never saw their numbers lower that much so I tried to talk to them both about keto but again. You just can't do it if they don't want to hear it.

I wish people understood that the cravings DO go away for carbs. After just a couple weeks keto'ers stop thinking about food like they did on a SAD diet. Not to mention all the other health benefits.

It's nice to have a friendly SparkTeam here to come talk to :-) Thanks again.

Congratulations to all who're Keto'n on, busting plateaus and losing steadily...slow and steady is indeed the way to go!

Hi Angela,
Welcome to Team Keto! So very sorry you had such a hard time with Hurricane Harvey. I used to do post hurricane work with K9 Search & Rescue and I saw some horrible horrible horrible things. So glad you made it out and can start over. Stuff is replaceable and your great attitude will make all the difference on the road moving forward. We're here for you!

I too live with a non-KETO follower of SAD (my Carb-hungry husband) but he's coming around to the low carb WOE...not that I'm attempting to convert him. He eats the KETO food I cook and is amazed its "diet food" and still consumes all the carby stuff too. But he's so good about telling me how well KETO is working for me, how great I look etc. He made one of our favs for lunch today...QUESADILLAs...used the low carb tortilla I just found at Walmart (4 g netcarb) for mine and his standard big flour tortilla for his (37 netcarbs) "WOW he said I've just eaten 9 times the carbs yous had! I didn't say a word, just smiled and thanked him for the yummy KETO Quesadilla.

So tired...got Broccolli, Green and Red Cabbages, Spinach and Romaine seedlings planted in the garden today and fencing put around two beds, as the Kitchen Wolves were entirely too interested in dancing all over my handiwork.

Welcome Angela.

It's interesting how we have similar experiences. When j was new to Keto I tried converting relatives. Like talking to a wall, just like you wrote.

Wow! So glad you made it through Harvey alive!

LOL I am currently living with someone not on Keto. He's my teen son and wanted my mashed potatoes yesterday. By mine I mean, how I make them. It gets easier though. I wasn't even tempted to taste test it. I eyeballed it and told him what I thought it needed, had him taste it and he agreed with my assessment. =)

Your past weight loss is great encouragement for me to continue. Thank you for sharing your story.

Hello everyone. My name is Angela and I'm not actually new to Keto or to Spark. I hadn't used Spark in a long time though and decided it is better when I'm here. :-)

My journey with the keto diet started years ago. It was the first time that I was ever able to lose weight. I'd lost 60 lbs. Unfortunately, life happened and things went off track. But it was during my hardest time ever that I found the keto diet again.

Last year I was introduced to Harvey, as in Hurricane Harvey. It took all my belongings and my home. I lost 95% of what I owned, was living with family in a different city. I had no idea if I still had a job at the place I've worked for almost 20 years. Everything seemed to be a mess.

When people say "My life turned up-side-down" you never really know what that means until you experience things yourself, which I never thought I would. Turns out, I can actually look at things on the bright side.

Instead of eating my feelings of loss, depression and 'what am I going to do now', I decided to go back to a keto diet. It was the only thing that I COULD control six months ago. It helped. I didn't think of food all the time. I had more energy. I was in control of something.

So now, I'm in a new place, with new things trying to get some of the pieces back in my life and I've learned a few things about being on the keto diet.

1. I give a shout out to anyone that is living in a household with people who aren't on this lifestyle.

2. I am always well aware why keto is good if I fall off the way. (Oh the stomach pain).

3. Trying to convince anyone who's not on keto how great this is is sometimes like talking to a wall. And that's ok.

4. Always, Always take measurements. They can usually be much kinder than a scale :-)

5. Coffee, cheese and anything with the words "full-fat" are actually our friends.

So that's me in a nutshell right now. There's a few moments where I might miss some of those things that I lost but it made me realize that things are just stuff. I have my life and I'm doing the best I can with it.
