i know, James, that they use it for diabetic candies, exclusively in some recipes. and in the hershey choc chips its also the only sweet..and trust me they are SWEET. so yeah that makes sense that its the degree...
i do this for a living..and after reading how the maltodextrin spikes blood sugar worse than table sugar, i refuse to use it for my customers. its cheap, thats why its used. i'd rather pay more, and have my customers pay more, than to have them have a problem. Some complain and say they are just going to buy the russell stover or whatever..i tell them why and 98% stay with me and appreciate that i care...

NIGHTSKYSTAR,
Wikipedia on maltodextrin:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltodextrin

says:
"Maltodextrin is easily digestible, being absorbed as rapidly as glucose and might be either moderately sweet or almost flavorless (depending on the degree of polymerisation)."

I thought it was almost flavourless, but I guess it depends ....

James i could be wrong..but isnt maltodextrin sweet? i know a lot of "diabetic" candies are sweetened with it, and i was really excited one day when i found hershey makes a sugar free chocolate chip..and they taste EXACTLY like nestles, and i started to use them in my keto bakery items..and they have maltodextrin.
here is the ingredient list: so i'm thinking that maltodextrin must taste sweet or there would have to be something else?
Ingredients: Maltitol, Chocolate Processed with Alkali*, Cocoa Butter, Contains 2% or Less of: Lecithin (Soy), Vanilla Extract, Milk.
I now make my own chocolate chips for the bakery. time consuming, but i know whats in them and i can control the darkness of the chocolate and the amount of sweet.

MOPARMEMAW,
I don't know about pure Sucralose itself, the sweeter in Splenda. But the powdered version of Splenda (so that it measures like sugar) is bulked with maltodextrin.

As far as I know maltodextrin is a carbohydrate that does not taste sweet, so it is the Sucralose in it that adds the sweetness. However maltodextrin is a carb, and I've done blood sugar tests on myself, adding powdered Splenda to water, drinking it, and measuring my blood sugar (I'm a type-2 diabetic, so I have the test strips and all).

My blood sugar went up just like I was drinking sugar water.

So unless other non-powder forms of Splenda are different, I'd stay away.

James

I have no problem with sweeteners, but just choose to not use them too often. I had splenda, too..and its still there..in the pantry..in the big bag. Because I was told it would spike insulin..but i did not research it.
Many say ANY sweetener will spike insulin..your body just perceives sweet and the spike happens. there are so many different theories out there I think its up to you what you do.

I personally don't use either one... they both mess with my weight loss. These resources should help you make a fully informed decision:

Dr. Jason Fung: "Holy consensus, Batman. With so many 'experts' from Michelle Obama to the USDA to virtually all of the medical professionals (including doctors and dieticians) agreeing that 'Eat Less, Move More' is the way to go, you might think that it is 100% unquestionably true. But here's a queer thought... if we all agree that we know the cure for obesity, and we've spent billions on educations and programs - why are we getting fatter? In other words, why does this 'cure' suck so bad?

Can someone explain to me why Stevia is ok, but not Splenda? I have a lot of Splenda on hand, so would prefer to use it, but if it hinders weight loss, I'll avoid it.
