i think i started on spark in 2008 so 10 years. and up till keto zilch on the loss..lol. but i had fun!!

my coach had me drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of pink salt stirred in twice a day, then said to liberally salt all my food with table salt for the iodine that pink salt doesnt provide.
i had to gag it down for days..then one day i didnt mind it at all..and havent since. i just do it..like i take a shower. its part of my routine.

i to have been on spark for a loooong time. deleted my account at one point and came back last year. props to you and your huge loss!!! that's fantastic! yeah, hitting bumps in the road sucks but glad you are better and able to start working on yourself again. great job!!
as for as supplements i agree with james. electrolyte replenishment is very important and will help you avoid that "keto flu". i drink calm raspberry/lemon flavored every couple days, eat pickles and olives and if i can stomach it i'll down a salt water lemon drink.i hear there are a ton of great keto products online for this sort of thing but haven't tried any of them out yet.
just hang in there and the kinks will work themselves out. i'm only about seriously 3 wks in as my first couple wks were all off. took me a min to "get it", lol.

p.s. google search keto gatorade recipes...u just might find one that you'd love. and that way you know you are def getting what you need into your body

Wanda WOW on the weight loss!! i know a gain must be difficult...but i'm so excited you did so well!!!
i use powerade zero when i need the electrolytes. i just take a sip here and there..i dont use a bottle a week.
diet soda..most say no. I have one here and there. if you can get Zevia, that is sweetened with stevia not splenda, so more accepted. i might suggest canada dry flavored carbonated seltzer. there is no sweetener, but it almost tastes sweet!

Since the body loses electrolytes, is it ok to drink unsweetened Gatorade? What about diet soda? (just because I like it lol)

Welcome,

I've been on Sperk People for quite a few years, but I think less than 8, so I can't say that I've seen too many changes. Some, yes, but not too many.

If you eat from the vegetables in the 6% or less list (see that post in the team-room) then it get very hard to eat more than about 25 grams of carbs a day. That is the most critical thing. Then got get about 50 to 60 grams of protein, that is a pretty normal amount of meat. Not a huge steak, but a normal sized one. An 8 ounce steak will have about 60 grams of protein.

I took some supplements when starting Keto, mostly some sort of salt, to avoid the shock of cutting carbs. Your body looses retained fluids, and the electrolytes and fluids need to find a new balance. That all resolves itself after about 2 weeks, though some people do continue to take supplements, I don't, and I've had no problems at all.

But probably well worth some supplements for the first 2 weeks, just to avoid headaches and other issues. The thing is, in nature carbohydrates don't disappear from one day to the next, they disappear with the seasons, ... slowly. But going Keto from one day to the next is like going to Hawaii in winter ... you should take some sustain lotion with, until you get a tan.

James

I had weight loss surgery 8 years ago and lost 165 pounds. After breaking my hip in a fall, then 1 year later had both knees replaced, I've put on about 25 pounds in the past 4 years. I want to get this off, so I'm going to try Keto. I was active on Spark 8 years ago, but it appears that things have changed somewhat, so I'm trying to figure it all out. I'm confused about keeping the protein grams low enough and posted a question about that already. Any and all support will be greatly appreciated! I also see supplements that some are taking and wonder if this is necessary.
