Thanks for your concern, James. I eat greek yogurt every day. I'm also limited by food allergies and a disease called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Plus other medical things (I'm a genetic cess pool). My trainer suggested keto, my GP suggested paleo, and some of the keto recipes are great, but after all my research I think paleo really fits my health needs better.

GOODFELINE,
let me say that I do have certain internal philosophical leanings towards Paleo. Our ancestors ate that way, and so, in my opinion, we've been weeded out genetically to do well on that sort of diet.

But me personally, my body is sort of ruined, I'm a type-2 diabetic, probably too much sugar (and similar) for too long at a younger age, so I just can't go there.

But for weight loss consider this idea. All carbs raise blood sugar. High blood sugar is not good, so insulin comes into lower blood sugar, and does so by storing that blood sugar away into cells, and into fat cells as well. So if you want to loose weight eating carbs is going to make it more difficult as one is in storage mode due to the presence of the insulin. So lots of people are interested in Keto to loose weight.

There are other health reasons to be interested in eating Keto too. It was originally a way to manage epilepsy for example, and it may be that excess carbs contribute to the aging process. OK, enough philosophy.... What about you?

You goals are:
- loose weight
- get enough protein
- avoid many meat products

Its a combination. As I've written before, since I want to avoid carbs, I view foods by what fraction or percentage of their weight is carbs and protein. Lets look at what you posted:
- quinoa (20% carbs) (4% protein)
- Higher protein veggies
- Beans (20% carbs) (9% protein)
- Dairy, lets go with greek yogurt (3% carbs) (7% protein)
- Nuts and seeds, say peanuts (20% carbs) (24% protein)

You are definitely on the right track with that list for protein. Its just too high in carbs for a Keto team, with the exception of the greek yogurt (were you aware of that style of yogurt?)

- tuna (0% carbs) (25% protein)
- salmon (0% carbs) (20% protein)

Ah, thats keto!

Have you seen the protein powder recipes in this group? Make something bread-like or cake-like and get your protein without the carbs. Also pancakes from vanilla protein powder.

Lentils, legumes, whole proteins like quinoa. Higher protein veggies. Beans. Dairy. Nuts and seeds. I handle some fish okay so sometimes I have tuna or salmon. I have a protein shake every morning. Vegetarian meat substitutes. It all adds up.

Welcome.
You got me curious. If you don't handle animal proteins very well and quantity wise it is easier to eat protein from meat than from plants, how do you get high protein? What do you eat?

Yeah, keto is moderate protein, but I want to mix it with paleo and do kind of a modified diet. See how that goes. I am not sure how well I could do keto since I can't handle animal proteins very well, which is partly why I am mixing in the paleo, but they seem compatible and not too far off from how I am eating now. Hopefully it's enough of a change to help me cross my finish line :)

Hello all. I am 31 and in Nebraska. I've been on a high protein diet (nutritionist monitored) for a little over a year and have lost nearly 140lbs, but a GP suggested I take a look at Paleo to help with some of my MCAS symptoms. I noticed on the community feed that a lot of keto meals are perfect for my high protein diet, too. I ordered the Paleo Diet and some cookbooks to get me started, but I want to modify and kind of blend Paleo and keto to see how that works out. I am interested in learning more about it and getting recipes for it to hopefully hit my goal weight before my birthday this year.
