i started oct 29...forced myself to eat breakfast. i would have 2 eggs scrambled in butter and sprinkled with grated cheddar, and 3 slices of bacon. then for lunch i had either sausage balls, or summer sausage and cheese. supper is always some kind of fatty meat and a spinach/cucumber/celery/sheese salad with oil and vinegar. Doing that i lost 55 pounds in 3 months...then i went off at Christmas for 3 days...and stalled. bigtime.
one suggestion. DONT CHEAT. ever. dont go over 30 carbs a day (eating all the above i'm under 15 most days.)
OH..i usually add in a fudge fat bomb or a keto cupcake as i'm a sweet lover...and own a bakery and it keeps me on track.
All that said..i just spent a week at disney, and was HORRID. i figured i'd gained 30 pounds..and i only gained 4..most of which is gone already.
i stopped eating breakfast when i stalled, and i think i need to add it back in. I dont count calories, i just keep track of carbs and fat. I eat when iim hungry and if i'm not i dont....and its worked for me. My son and daughter in law both lost 70 their first 10 months doing what i described...they are both stalled now, too..but both very close to goal. i have another 50 to go..and i'm 59 for the age thing.

Chris (MOM-OF-SIX),

What you are eating sounds great. In my opinion, don't worry about breakfast, if you aren't hungry or weak, why eat?

James

Thank you all for responding. It sounds like I have to be patient. I've watched a couple of videos from dietdoctor.com on keto dieting. I know I've had days where I took in too many carbs with Easter and a couple of road trips that took me off track.

My usual day goes like this:
Breakfast is coffee with cream and coconut oil, I don't usually eat.
Lunch is chicken salad (chicken and mayo) or salmon salad (salmon and mayo)
Possible snack: macadamia nuts or coconut milk with Stevia and a dash of cream
Dinner is usually meat and veggies (asparagus, green beans, Brussel sprouts, or spinach salad with cucumber, tomato, and red bell peppers + ranch)
If I don't take in enough fat with dinner, I find I need another snack of macadamia nuts or coconut milk.

I try not to eat between 8pm and 12nn. I also do add butter to my meat and veggies at dinner, and have an avocado sometimes too. Having trouble keeping ripe ones in my house, either over or under ripe.

Thank you James! Glad you cleared that up...that you're not a woman emoticon
That is helpful and I like the simplicity of your meals. Do you try to add a lot of fat like MCT, coconut butter, ghee, lard? Fat adds a lot of calories, but helps with ketones & satiation...so, I'm just not sure. I did get some Artisan coconut butter...OMG does that taste yummy! Do you track your macros? Do you or have you done intermittent fasting? Should you only do IF if your already adapted? Who are you favorite mentors of Keto?

Thanks!
Jules

Welcome Chris,
I'm not a woman, but I'll give you a little idea of what I typically eat.

Breakfast is often eggs, any style, perhaps a two egg omelette, with some cheese and bell pepper bits in it. Usually a cup or two of coffee with a dash of cream. These days I've gravitated back to pancakes made with protein powder as a "flour" base. If I'm in a hurry it may be a cheese stick or two, each with a slice of deli meat around it.

Lunch varies. Today it was fast food at the mall. Cooked green beans with blackened chicken.

Supper is often a salad with loads of healthy vegetables, some meat cut up, and a low carb dressing, like store bought ranch dressing.

Right now my evening snack is shrimp fried in garlic butter, and I'm drinking some herbal tea with it.

If you've done low carb for years, then you won't be getting that big weight drop from the loss of glycogen. Keto is just like low carb, but lower. So if low carb is in the 70 to 90 gram a day range, Keto is in the 20 to 30, tops 40, kind of range. There is no miracle to loosing weight with either low carb or Keto. Both styles lead to more even blood sugar, and less insulin locked up body fat.

Hi Chris,
I'm in a similar boat as you. I am 53, hypothyroid, and also did hCG (4 rounds) in the past. Currently, I am 40 lbs down using Medifast and I just had to get more fats in my body. So after much research, listening to Mark Hyman, MD in functional medicine and 3/4 way through Keto Clarity, I am also 2 weeks into my Keto journey without much loss. I am assuming since it takes around a month to become Keto adapted that this is why. I also really don't want to have to track macros as it just feeds into my food focus and OCDness of being perfect. But, I also realize that I may need to do this as well, I'm floundering somewhat in trying to figure out if I am going about this right. All input is welcomed!

Hi Chris,
I have thyroid problems, along with PCOs with metabolic resistance. It can get discouraging when you have weight to lose.

I've been doing Keto for about a year and have lost about 70 pounds. Stalled right now, but I don't see me ever going back to eating "normal" since I feel so much better. More energy, less or no joint pain etc.

Basically, I stay low on carbs (below 30) and get the majority of my fats from coconut oil/milk. I start the day with a bullet coffee made with canned coconut milk/butter and then small meals after that of mostly protein and fat. I shoot for 70% of my calories from fat. I don't make that very often, so that may be why I have stalled now. I am attempting to tweak things right now.

Tell us what you are doing right now.

Hello; I'm a 48 year-old mother of six kids and was hoping for some feedback from women in my age group who have successfully done keto dieting. I've done low carb for years, with a couple of years of HCG dieting in there. I lost quite a bit of weight with the HCG, only to gain a lot of it back. I've read Keto Clarity, but am having trouble finding my sweet spot and haven't lost any weight yet. Only been at it a couple of weeks. I'm hypothyroid, which also makes it difficult to lose weight.

If any one can give me examples of what you eat/drink in a day, I would greatly appreciate it.

Chris
