LIQUID_SUNSHINE,
the others said it better than I can. I have one question and one statement.

My question is, how do you decide what to eat, or not eat for this "way of eating"?

Secondly, this way of eating isn't all misery and denial, at least for me, I found a whole host of foods that tasted so much better after 3 months of Keto.

Liquid_Sunshine welcome!!
i have been on every diet known to man....and nothing worked. until this. i dont get it, i dont know why i could eat next to nothing before and not lose..but i do know i have a son i only get to see once a year because hes far away...and when i saw he and his fiancee this past october EACH had lost 70 pounds in 8 months. i was floored..i asked what they were doing and they told me. and, being a former nurse, and studying nutrition for years to try to lose, i said NO WAY thats horrible blah blah..and they smiled and said yeah but it works..and i woke up october 29th and said fine..i'm going to start today..no prep, no nothing lol i just had bacon, eggs, butter, and called my kid and said help. and they walked me through it, gave me sites to read, etc..and here i am 3.5 months in and 45 pounds lighter and i havent looked back.
it DOES work..it IS easy..and i wish i had known about it 40 years ago..i've been fat my entire life searching for an answer and it was butter..haha!!!

You will find support here. Have you looked at resources online? Like Jimmy Moore, Joseph Fung and others.

The scale is definitely not our friend even at a 1x weekly weigh in. Taking Measurements are good. On Keto you really don't count calories , you count carb grams, protein grams and fat grams (I also include counting Fiber too. on my tracker

Check out my signature - it tells you what MACROS I do. and there is a web link for the calculator I use. Every one is different - based on age, sex and exercise level.

KETO WOE (way of eating) ...is a lifestyle change. I'm back because I got away from eating this way and regained the 63 lbs I lost. It can be done and maintained.

Check out Stephanie who has been doing KETO for 9 years and she's 50 this year

I found her and other people because they were in the "KETO CLARITY" book. I found that it gave me some more understanding how KETO works etc.

On all of the other diets that I have tried and been on I have only lost Inches no pounds, I also have a lot of muscle in my legs. So A friend told me about the Keto Diet and how she lost 170 lbs and kept it off for 12 years so I'm willing to try.

SHINYBROWNCOAT,

there are folks who run in Ketosis:
www.runketo.com

That said, I'd wait about a week into eating Keto, then get on your treadmill at home. If you feel fine, well that is good. If you don't at least you are already at home and can just quit and rest, you don't have to walk or run back home.

I think you'll find the first few days not so energetic. Take some extra salt, it is a transition time and electrolytes get unbalanced for a while. Especially if you get headaches. It isn't a bad diet, it is just a shock to a carb oriented body.

After about 2 to 3 weeks do your regular exercises, or whatever you want to do.

If your main goal is weight loss, and that is why you are thinking of exercising, to burn calories, well weight loss is mostly due to cutting calories, and that is just much easier eating Keto.

In my opinion exercise is for fitness, or to feel good. I feel better after a morning swim.

WELCOME!!
And thanks again to James, I asked about headaches on the other thread for questions & answers, but I think James just answered my question. Maybe I'm not getting enough sodium. That is a good possibility. I will try adding some more for a few days & see if that helps.

Have a great day everyone.

James, thank you very much for such a detailed response. I am still learning and researching about the diet. I live a pretty sedentary life style as a full time student and full time front desk receptionist at a hotel. I feel very energetic the past few days, which I was hoping was due to the change in foods that I was eating. I hate to exercise to be honest, so I am fine with taking it easy over the next few weeks. Do you think it would be ok to run if I feel I have the energy? I usually only go for 30 minutes on my elliptical at home.

Thank you for your help!

Welcome SHINYBROWNCOAT.

All the best on your Keto journey!

On the team wall you posted you were switching to Keto, and you were planning to go for a run later today.

That is not a good idea. When the body is cut off from carbs, probably its major fuel source, and that is confirmed by your listing of fudge, pasta and potatoes, it is not a switch to burning fat and protein from one meal to the next. Your body chemistry doesn't switch that quickly.

The reason is that it was an advantage to add body fat in the summertime (high carb time), then make it through the winter (low carb time), and the seasons don't change overnight.

I got very light headed just going for a 15 minute walk on my third day of low carb. I wasn't sure I was going to make the 15 minute walk back. Focus on changing your food choices, of being prepared (having Keto friendly snacks with you all the time), and on taking some extra salt to avoid the headaches that come with breaking a carb addiction.

Exercise can come back into your life after about 2 weeks of eating Keto, and then take it lightly, as at 2 week your are OK for regular life, but on the edge for exercise, depending the the intensity.

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to Keto, but not new to Spark People. I learned about keto from a friend and I am hoping that this will help me get down a few sizes. I've put on quite a few pounds, especially after the Christmas fudge. I am a little Irish/Italian girl, so all my meals usually had to have a pasta or a potato side with it. Trying to keep to the macro counts and such, and this app is really making it easy to keep track of all of my levels. I'm excited to go on this weight loss journey.
