It seems like a common theme that we all forgot to introduce ourselves… So I'm Beth and I'm here because of my family history. I have it all in my immediate family, from premature death (ypunger than 50) to morbid obesity, diabetes, MS, heart diseas, arthritis, depression/anxiety disorders, all the way to poor eyesight and premature balding. And that's my immediate family. Almost all of these things can be controlled or at least postponed with a healthy lifestyle.

I am doing my best to learn as much as I can about nutrition and fitness so I can have a long, happy, healthy life.

I'm currently trying to get down to my ideal weight of 125 from 182 and I've lost 8 # so far. I've always been a bit bigger, but I've never been close to what runs in my family, thank god. I'd just like to nip this problem before it BECOMES a problem. ☺️

Hi Everyone

I didn't introduce myself earlier. My husband and I are self employed, we have 3 businesses that keep us really busy. We are raising our 11 year old grandson, he has been with us pretty much since birth. He's a great kid but its a challenge, doing all over again. We live in Southern California so I can enjoy great weather most of the year emoticon .

I joined Sparkspeople because I wanted to lose weight, but as I've been reading and watching videos I've changed my goal to just being healthy. I want to run again, I haven't ran in at least 10 years and I miss it.

Keep in touch

Wow! I didn't realize I never introduced myself to the team! We are 9 weeks in(?) and I've interacted with many of you. I hope everyone is still motivated as we get further into our journey. I've tried a few fad diets in the past and early this year I tried WW as well. Most of the plans worked for short-term results but I'm finding that I like the approach SP takes for longer-term benefits. I have always eaten healthily aside from my sweet tooth, but I have never binged or over-indulged. I just need a little taste of chocolate once per day and I'm good! I love SP so far. 9 lbs gone and counting!

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to get my weight down so I can get off my blood pressure medicine and feel better.
My favorite exercise is walking. I love to be outdoors whenever I can.
I am hoping to get down in the 120's by next spring.
I was down to 120 about 6 years ago and felt great. I had some health issues and my weight went up to 148.
I am finally in the right frame of mind to lose the weight.
I've cleaned out my cabinets of junk food and have healthier choices.

Hello! I am finding out all the things SparkPeople has to offer. I hope to gain some accountability using this site. I originally checked out the site for the food tracker, but have found many other items that I think will assist me in my weight loss. I really like the articles, they are very realistic and straight forward. I look forward to learning more about it and it's members.

Hi Everyone,

I'm just figuring out how to check my sparkmail and how to use things on the site. I joined this site because I need some moral support for my weight loss and healthy new way of living. I have a habit of doing good for a while, then I have a lymes flare up, and I feel like I step back 20 feet and have to start all over again. So, I'm here now hoping to get re-motivated to be active more often after sitting at work all day and to find little ways to keep me going to lose 20lbs.

I thank everyone in advance for your support :0)

I am a single mom to a wonderful 5 year old little boy as well as a paralegal. I have about 50 pounds to get off my body that have creeped on over the last decade!

Hello! My name is Allie, and I am a wife and mom of a 2 year old and a 6 month old. I joined Spark because I have about 80 pounds to lose, 25 of those pounds are from leftover baby weight. I am ready to be a healthier, more energetic mommy for my two girls, and have started eating a lot healthier and working out.

Hello all! My name is Jasmine, I'm 29 and live in Chicago. I am so excited to be here with everyone! I'm ready to lose weight and retrieve my health. Hello everyone! My name is Samantha, and I am 32. I just recently moved to Baton Rouge from Wisconsin! I have joined Spark because I am tired of being the fat girl. I want to loose weight and gain my confidence back and my self esteem. I am an emotional eater and with the stress of moving I have gained more weight. I have over 100lbs to loose and I am excited to be apart of this group.

Hi....can you believe that there is over 5,000 of us that have joined just this week? I am really impressed by all the tools SparkPeople give us. I love the menus and shopping lists. Yesterday I went to the store and bought what I need to be successful this week, and it was easy. I also appreciate that substitutions are just a click away...like this morning when my bananas were too green to eat, I found I could sub strawberries. It was so simple.

I have been severely overweight for years. I was diagnosed with diabetes last week. My doctor has been talking stomach surgery with me, and I was ready when I received my diabetes test results. Realistically I don't want to live the rest of my life on that restricted of a food intake, so this is my chance to finally get serious. My age, 65 years, makes losing weight more challenging. If I make progress in the next 6 weeks, I will use SparkPeople instead of surgery.

I am counting on us all doing this together. YEAH Class of October 7-13!!

Hi Everyone.
My name is Jeanette. I am 34 years old and after looking at the pictures from this summer I was horrified to see how much weight I have gained. I have 100 pounds I hope to loose and hope to find ways of cooking healthy meals the whole family loves. My weight became out of control because I binge eat and am an emotional eater. I eat when bored, depressed, lonely, happy, sad, heck I eat alot! I don't like who I have become. My kids no longer ask me to get up and dance or play with them. My body feels the effects also. I want to learn the right ways of being healthy and at the same time teach my kids about being healthy.

Welcome, everyone!

Again, it's so nice to see new people and to hear your stories. Some of you are struggling. I've been doing this for a while now and I still struggle. But know that you can do this. All it takes is determination and the will to never give up. Mistakes happen, but when you wake up each morning you're starting a brand new day free of mistakes. I always strive to make today better than yesterday.

My name is Alicia, I'm 32 years old.

Rather like Bob, I'm fighting with the tail endish of a fitness journey.

I gained a fair amount of weight a few years ago, because I came down with a thyroid condition. Since then I've lost about ten pounds, gotten into respectable shape (if by "shape" you mean my ability to hoist heavy objects and run without getting winded, and not "how appealing I am in a bikini"), and my health markers have all improved. I'm happy with all of that. But I am also frustrated with the fact that my results have been stalled out by the fact that my eating is all over the place.

I'm not very good at tracking what I eat in my head. It's true what they say: you can't work out of a bad diet. My diet wasn't terribly bad but it was undisciplined and scatter-shot and that doesn't work very well when you're trying to lose fifteen to twenty pounds. I'd toyed with SparkPeople before years ago and it was helpful in getting me started; I knew the calorie tracker would track my protein, which I keep up at the higher end, and I knew having support would probably keep me more on track than promising myself "Tomorrow I will start being more disciplined!" while I ate something I knew wasn't fantastic for me.

I'm really, really good at being disciplined through 75 percent of my day and then drinking three margaritas at a Mexican restaurant while I eat my deep cheese fried whatever for dinner. You know, I think that's really fine once in a while, but my once in a while is "very, very often" and I won't change that on my own. Not unless there is something somewhere I have to be accountable to.

Hey Katie!

I definitely am one of those "eat your feelings" type of gals too lol. I have some distant family doing the Spark Lifestyle and they love it so I thought I'd check it out.

I used to have a gym membership and was a member of Weight Watchers and lost 30lbs! I gained 20 of the 30 back and I'm just having a hard time getting motivated especially with the cold weather coming!

I'm hoping to learn how to eat nutritious, filling meals so I stop snacking at night while trying to figure out some type of exercise that keeps me wanting to come back to it. I've never been a runner per say, but one of my goals this year is to do a 5K!

Feel free to check in with me anytime! Are you in Canada or the US?

Katt, 25

Hey SNOWMAID. I'm trying to break the habit of skipping meals too. I would usually go to work all day on a cup of coffee and a cup of yogurt. Then I would splurge for dinner. I also love my drinks. Margaritas are my favorite, but I would also drink a lot of beer. I'm really trying to break my eating and drinking patterns, and I've been really good the last few days. I've been making myself eat a light breakfast, and I bring a small lunch to work along with a couple healthy snacks. I also have a snack when I get home from work so that I don't feel starved before dinner. I also haven't had a drink the last couple days either. Just drinking my 8 glasses of water. The only bad thing I haven't accomplished is that I've beej meaning to join the gym all week, but I feel so burnt out by the time I get home. I have been riding my bike to and from work though. That's a rountrip total of 5 miles, 40 minutes a day. I hope I keep up with the good work.Good luck!

Hi, just joined. My husband joined earlier in the week, inspired by his brother's 25-pound weight loss with Spark. I need to lose 12-15 pounds and need all the help I can get. My downfall is skipping meals, eating too much when I do eat, snacking. I eat fast food rarely, avoid sodas but I do so love my margaritas and nachos. I have had success in the past with high protein type diets. Was going to give Paleo a go this winter. Spark -- well, I'm game!

Good Morning everyone,

My name is Bob. I'm fifty years old. I used to have a 55 inch waist. I'm not sure how much I weighed. Now I have a 45 inch waist. I have about fifty pounds to go to reach my goal weight. I started sparkpeople because I need support and encouragement to finish this journey. One thing for sure. I'm not giving up until I reach my goal.

Hi everyone. My name is Katie and I'm 29 years old. I came upon sparkpeople by accident, but decided to join because I hate what I see when I look in the mirror...I figured I don't have anything to lose (except the extra pounds, I hope), so why not. I am a member of a gym and I was going a few times a week and was having great success losing weight for a while. But my progress came to a screeching halt about 6 months ago when I quit smoking. My weight has gradually increased since then, and I now weigh more than I did when I first joined the gym. My biggest problem is staying motivated. I find myself getting more depressed with each pound I pack on which makes it harder to get back to that "I can do it" frame of mind. I guess you could say that I tend to eat my feelings and that is one of my biggest problems. I hope I can find some inspiration from the community here to get myself back on the right track.

Hey BECCAJ1010, I know what you mean. I LOVE food, and I'm not much of a gym/working out type person. And like you, all the weight I gain seems to go right to my belly, the rest of me is fine. Right now I'm basically just trying to cut back on my portions, and I started riding my bike to and from work everyday (about a 20 minute ride each way, so 40 minutes a day). I'm going to go join a gym after work today and see how that goes. I chose one that doesn't have a yearly contract, you just pay month to month (so if I don't stay with it I won't have to keep paying). Good luck on all of your endeavors!

Hey All,
My name is Mya and I am 25 years old. I have been trying to lose weight for awhile now. I am currently at 329 and am at my heaviest. I have recently been asked to be in a friends wedding and when I got my dress it had to be taken out as much as it could be and it still didn't fit. So this is the perfect time for me to start back on the wagon and lose all the weight I can before December 1st. I know its going to be hard but with a lot of encouragement I will do it. I look forward to hopefully being an encouragement to all of you as well as being encouraged. God will direct our paths.

My name is Tanna. I am 57 years old (I noticed that most of you are a lot younger!) I am married to the love of my life. I have 6 children and 8 grandchildren. I currently stay at home to watch my 1 year old grand-daughter. I have been overweight for years and I am ready to change that and get healthy and set a good example for my grandchildren. I am active in my church and want to lose 50 pounds so that I can serve my Heavenly Father more fully.

I am new...am not much of a fan of exercise and love chocolate, bread and butter, and have a tummy which led someone to ask me the other day if I was pregnant. I have not been pregnant for 3 years. I am not very overweight but tummy does stick out- there is no denying it. I would love a comrade in arms in trying to lose 5-10 pounds by xmas and most important get the tummy not to go out so markedly. Still trying to figure out how the site works as far as finding buddies...will be interest in all of your stories and efforts. So far my thing has been lots of salads and long walks with stroller listening to books on ipod. Not enormous success but on the road...

Hello!

I'm JJ and I am currently a science student in University and I am looking to make some changes in my life. I have decided to move out on my own in months to come and I want to lose weight and get healthy. I have been on sparkpeople before but unfortunately fell off the bandwagon which is usually what tends to happen. I joined to overcome these issues of giving up when I don't see results fast. I am hoping this time I am able to stick to my goals and become healthy for myself.

Lets do it!
-JJ

Hello everybody, my name is Sarah. I'm 28 years old and just got engaged. We don't know whether we are going to get married next year or the year after (leaning towards 2014). I've been a Spark member before and lost 15 pounds a couple years ago (and amazingly kept off the weight I lost), but then I lost motivation and quit for a while. I'm signing back up today to complete what I set out to do. I have 15 more pounds to lose before I could get back to the weight I was at before.

Good Afternoon all

I am a 35 y/o mother of two wonderful boys ages 17 and 13. They both have momma going here there and everywhere.

This is my second go around with Spark and I love it! I lost control in June and i am back and full force!! During my first go around I lost 22 pounds with Spark. So I know it works with dedication. I use the trackers for everything! And will continue to do so.

My 17 y/o is in mma 3 days a week and it dawned on me I sit in the car in the parking lot well it is in a gym so why not join. So i did. I have joined several classes and am loving them!!

On nights i dont go to the gym I do wii fit or walk.

I am from Pennsylvania. And it is starting to get cold here :( So I will take the gym anyday.

best of luck to all of you!!

Happy Sparking!!

One day at a time...

I am thankful everyday for the support system that I have.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Hello everyone, my name is Tom and I'm 33 with a 14 year old son. I'm currently at my heaviest weight and I'm sick and tired of being overweight and an embarrassment to myself and my girlfriend.
I've used all the excuses I could in the past for being fat I'm too busy, I'm tired, my knee hurts(ACL replaced), my back hurts(fractured vertebrae), I got too much work to do ect ect ect I could go on for days here. It's time I manned up and took the blame and took control of my future.

My Personal Goals:
Be able to fit in all the adult rides at Hershey park by the summer of 2013
Run the Zombie 5k in Oct 2013
Start going to karate again

I currently have 149lbs to lose.

I'm becoming healthier for my son, my fiance and most importantly for myself.

I am a 28yo mother of 1 and a wife. Since 2003 I have not been able to lose any weight. When I had my daughter I was down to 190 which was better than I had ever weighed after 2003. Now I am back up and I can not stand it. Excited to get back into shape and down to a good size. Hoping that this helps me along my journey to health and it will give me some motivation to keep going!

Hi everyone! my name is Sadia 27 years. I recently got engaged and have my engagement party coming up in December for which i want to lose 10 pounds. Its really hard for me because I am not used to watching what i eat or working out to lose weight.. my metabolism kept up with me really well until i turned 25.

My biggest problem: i love desserts, like i literally have to eat something sweet after every meal!! I am trying to stop that emoticon

My solution (hopefully): Insanity although i dont follow the 60 day plan..i work out every other day.

Joined sparkspeople to keep me motivated by seeing other peoples progress..I'm all about teamwork :D

Good luck guys!

Hello, I am a 49 year mother of three grown daughters and three grandchildren! I was thin until my third child, then about a decade ago I lost 60 lbs through mountain biking. I don't race anymore and rarely seem to have time to bike and the weight just crept back on and then some. I am hoping to find a way to rid myself of the weight once and for all and not just through massive amounts of exercise, but a more moderate program coupled with eating smaller portions and consuming less junk food.

The music echoes in the emptiness. It reminds us where we came from and where were bound.

Hi everyone! My name is Megan. I am 25 years old, and am trying (again) to get healthy and lose weight. I have tried several times before, and have had some success, and then get busy and give up. But I am going to make my health more of a priority, and I hope SparkPeople can help me do that!

I am joining today because I want to be healthier and around for a long time for my daughter. I don't have a lot of motivation when it comes to eating right and exercising, but found this site and think it might work. I can't go back to where I was when I was younger, but I can start a new beginning from today.

Just introduce yourself to the team! Why did you choose now to get your health right? What are some of your favorite workouts? What is going to be a struggle for you? What are you hoping to get out of SparkPeople? What is your strengths? Tell us anything about yourself. These were just some examples of things you may want to talk about.
