Hi Everyone,
I have been on SP for a while and have just played around with it, but now it is time to get serious! I have joined a spring 5% challenge team an am loving the accountability :) I have a supportive husband behind me and that helps so much! I have now joined sparkcoach and am loving the motivation that I am finding there too :)

I had my 51st birthday, have been married for 32 years and have 2 wonderful children - 16 & 18. I am originally from New Zealand and am in the middle of getting my US citizenship. I am a pediatric intensive care nurse as well as have been a neonatal intensive care nurse! I travel away from home for work as they do not have my area of nursing where I now live! That brings its own challenges!

Hi,

I'm Marilyn and I have been Yo Yo dieting for years. I am now 67 and have decided that this time will I am going to change my bad habits into good habits. I am here because I am determined to improve my health. For the past two weeks I have been staying within my ranges and exercising regularly. I already lost 4 pounds and am thrilled about that. I am feeling better already and I know that I am going to stay on the plan from now on.

Thanks SP

Marilyn

I agree - lets change that name to something more positive. Glad you're back and this time is your time. Make it work for you. I have tons of stress so I get what you are saying. Some days I can be my own worst enemy. The one thing I've done is never gave up and although the road is slow I'm ahead of where I was a few years ago. I eat better and I exercise although far from perfect on the days I totally mess up I don't give up. I start in again and push forward. I wish you success and many blessings along the way. If you stick to it no matter how many slips up you'll have a great journey and learn a lot about yourself. It's worth the ride. emoticon

Welcome Grumpee! First off, we need to change the "Grumpee" to "Smiley" or "Happy"!!! Glad to have a returning Spark People person back on board. Don't be afraid to vent here to release that stress level and bring it down to a much safer level for you. emoticon

Good Morning, I am Grumpee...especially this morning. Been here, done this before. Really got into it then hit a bump which knocked me off the road. Tried to get back on the road several times but that didn't work. So here I am now into week three and feeling like I cruising to success this time around.

Stress is my biggest enemy. And right now I am at my maximum stress level. The suspense is building. How will I deal with it? Will food become my weapon of choice? Check out my Spark Page to see if I am able to overcome the forces of evil or will I succumb to their barrage of ads begging me to indulge?

Welcome Clara. No, you aren't alone with the many health issues (See my report below). We all have different reasons for weight gain. You are in the right place. Here we have or are going through the same things; however, maybe not all the same health issues, but we have all gained weight. If not, we wouldn't be here. You will find a lot of help here as well as a listening ear and lots of encouragement!! I went through the same thing with my family - - "You just need will-power"; "If Nancy can do it, you can too", "Just cut your calories way back". I heard them all.

Be sure to check into the section of Articles and Videos. Look up everything you can find on the health issues you have. There are a lot of articles on diet, recipies, videos on exercises etc etc. Check out the Community section as well and read down over the different teams/chats that you find and then read over some of the blogs that are posted in each of them.

Take baby steps in your nutrition and exercise. Don't do it all at once and definitely don't look at how many pounds you have to go to get to your weight goal but instead, set a small goal of 5% - 10% of your total weight loss. When you start to get discouraged beause of how many more pounds you have to lose but look back at how many pounds you've already lost, how much looser your clothes are fitting, or how much better you are feeling overall. The scale isn't the only way of checking your progress.

There is a book that was just released not quite 2 weeks ago called The Spark Solution. I would advise you to purchase that book. It will be very beneficial for you to help you get a good start with your journey - - notice I didn't say "diet" as this is NOT a diet but a life-changing way of living and working towards a much healthier way of life all the way around.

Take time to have fun and enjoy your Spark journey.

Hi, my name is Clara. I just joined Spark People yesterday. I have more health issues than I can count and my weight is sky rocketing! I'm grateful to have found SP, because I have felt totally alone in my struggles as my doctors, family and friends would much rather believe that I'm just plain lazy, than believe that my health issues are contributing to my weight. Frustrated and discouraged just don't seem to be the right words! emoticon

Hi Sparkers! I'm almost 66, live in Weslaco, TX (7 miles from MX) and I've been with Spark People for 1 year now (May 19, 2012). I bought the Spark Solution book and am on my free trial and then my free 90 days for buying the Spark Solution Book.

I have struggled with my weight since the birth of my 1st son in 1966. I come from a very abusive marriage of 10 years and a second abusive marriage of 5 years. My third marriage of 14 years is wonderful.

I have had many, many multiple health issues: fibromyalgia, 3 total knee replacements (both knees), an almost total reconstructive surgery of both feet and ankles due to extreme flat feet and torn ligaments, a torn rotator cuff surgery in Dec 2012 which I am still struggling with as well as many intestinal surgeries and many hernia repairs to go along with that. Needless to say, my exercising right now is limited pretty much to walking. I walk 2 miles a day (1 mile twice a day).

I have lost 25# since joining Spark People but need to lose approximately 36# more. My FBS have improved and have been able to get off my medication for that but do have to watch carefully for hypoglycemia which has been my main problem. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels are now well within the normal limits which I am trully greatful about.

Because of all my medical problems/surgeries my motivation tends to wane often and thus increased weight loss and/or quitting diets. This is the longest I have stuck with one diet/life-changing way of life.

I did receive my two DVDs today which came with the purchase of the Spark Solution.

Judy

I thought I already introduced myself here but don't see it. Maybe it was on Spark Coach?
Oh well. I am Lee from FL. Have met goal (I thought until I found out I am 5'5.5" and not 5'6.5" as I had thought. So a pound changes my BMI but also I need to lose more since I had an Acute MI in March. Not my first time with heart problems. the double bypass I had 3 years ago shredded (artery replacements) so had stents this time.

At any rate both of these things happened while I was losing weight on SP. I really do believe I wouldn't be here if I hadn't taken SP seriously. Just bought the book to give me more motivation and I WILL use it. I took too long to lose 30 lbs and hope This boost will help me lose 10 more quickly. Good luck to all of us. Now to answer Chris.
I don't care if the fitness tracker is skewed a bit. It didn't record my work on the Nu Step so up to me to figure out why. The results are what count!!

What REALLY irritates me is why NOT ONLY are you people refusing to change back the fitness tracker , you also ignore the MAJORITY of users who HATE the new one. Its clumsy and useless.

I am 57 and have multiple health issues. I have asthma since early childhood, which means taking prednisone off/on all my life...this drug is truly oxymoronic!!! For every one thing it does good...the terrible side effects are too numerous to count (TNTC). I have joint replacements along with a hx. of other surgeries. I also have a poor functioning thyroid and thyroiditis and have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. emoticon
To top all this off, I am allergic to ALL nuts and peas as well as gluten....this makes getting protein and carbs a whole new adventure!!

I've never weighed this much when I delivered my children and I am very frustrated with my health, lack of energy and appearance. I do NOT even want my wonderful husband of almost 38 yrs. to see me without clothes.

I truly want a healthier me who has energy to play with my grandchildren and my dog along with a more positive outlook.

I am determined to succeed!!!

I need to lose 30 pounds. I am 39 and I have an active job as a Massage Therapist... I need to be in better shape so that I will not hurt when I come home from work. I need to improve my eating habits and stay motivated in the evenings. I hope that spark coach will give me the extra push I need to stay motivated when the pizza comes out.

Hi I joined SP 2 years ago but have had several setbacks with an ailing husband. Now he is in heaven and I am trying to focus on myself for a change instead of everything else. Doing baby steps again but will keep on trying.

Every day, you have a choice, from the moment you wake up: to make this day a good day or something else. You can choose your attitude. You can change your life! What will you choose today?

Hello, Im Tammy and this is my 2nd go at losing weight with sp. I was doing well a couple years ago and do to some setbacks I just gave up.. no I'm ready to try again and am trying the sparkcoach program. I really like it so far but as a single struggling parent of 3 I can't really afford it, even the 8.99 start up fee is a huge stretch for me right now. Once my trial runs out can I still come here for support??

Hi! I'm Joann from Minnesota. I joined SparkPeople in July of 2008 at the suggestion of my doctor to try to lose weight to control my blood sugar. I've used SparkPeople off and on over the past 4 1/2 years but not very consistently - which is what you need to do to lose weight! I just bought The Spark Solution and joined SparkCoach today so I'm going to try harder this time and hopefully have some good results when I go back to see my doctor in August. I'm thinking it will also be easier to play with my grandkids when I go to visit them for a week in August if I have less weight on my body. Good luck to everybody on this team!

Welcome, Welcome Welcome.

Depression can be so heavy. I used to live with it everyday. I have a genetic neurochemical imbalance that runs in my family. It wasn't until I found the right doctor who prescribed the right combination of medicines that I felt better. I haven't been depressed in 10 years! It feels wonderful! But loosing a husband is hard and depression is normal for this type of loss. Have you considered going to counseling and seeing a psychiatrist for some temporary medicines for depression. Let me say, depression or not exercise is a great reliever of life's stresses. It truly is. I practice Tai Chi. It is an ancient art form of martial art, but it also has many health benefits. From the observer, it looks like your not exercising at all, but believe me, when I do Tai Chi I have a drenching sweat! It is great strength and balance training. If you ever get a chance take a free introductory class one day and you will see it's not as simple as it looks. I also practice Chi Gong. It is a breathing and meditation, stretching ancient Chinese practice. It involves breathing very deeply, stretching and focused meditation. It's very relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. When I come home from doing Chi Gong and Tai Chi I don't want to lay in bed, I want to clean house or take a long walk. It leaves me energized! Many exercises and activities leave you with this feeling. It can break the depression. It can change your life. I advocate and recommend taking a class with others, make new friends and stay active to help with your depression. I promise you, you don't have to wallow in depression. It's not mandatory that you suffer with your feeling of loss. You can learn to enjoy life again! I am testimony to it!

I hope you feel better very soon. Please message me any time. I would be happy to correspond with you. Just because you are depressed doesn't mean you can't enjoy new friendships. I can be here for you. I welcome you.

Have a great day! And remember. You are a child of God. He wants you to be HAPPY!

How is everyone doing? My name is Cathy. I'm a Mom to a 4 and a 5 year olds. I'm a Midwest girl and I love to eat just about every kind of food for about every kind of reason. believe me it shows. Can't really call it pregnancy weight anymore. That is why I started Spark Coach and have been on it awhile now. I need a guide; a step by step plan to help me make this new lifestyle I want to stick for good. The nice thing is everything you need to do is in one spot. I can do it quick and get the motivation I need for the day. I still have a long ways to go. But I am now all right with that.

My name is Lenora, I am 58 years young. Sept 28, 2012 my husband left me. Even though we are working in our marriage the pain I feel daily is overwhelming. Trying to stay motivated is extremely difficult. There a many days that I just want to sit on the couch and not move. However, most of the time I pick myself up, change into my gym clothes and head out, either to the gym, the track or walking my dog. Depression is my daily companion that I would love to loose. I also have a strong faith in God. emoticon

Hi. I am here because I HAVE to lose some weight for health reasons and to be a better role model for my family. I have two sons, both are very active in sports and the oldest is beginning the process of looking at colleges. I don't want my children to be embarrassed to say that I am their Mom, but to say Hey, there's my Mom. I have tried many things in the past and some have worked for a while and then I would fall off the band wagon. I know from past experience that I can do this, I just need some help staying motivated. I know that I am the only one that can make all these changes in my life but sometimes just having someone that understands the struggle is very helpful. Also, I saw a friend yesterday that has lost 110 pounds be it on another program that I have used in the past but I thought to myself, wow, that's a whole person. She looks GREAT. I know in my heart that if she can do it, I CAN DO IT!!

Hi my name is Tina and I am a SAHM in NE Ohio. I've been struggling with my weight for about 15 years now and it has really been hard to gain any ground since being diagnosed with bipolar spectrum disorder 5 years ago due to frequent med changes. I am using SC through the free 3 month trial that came with ordering the Spark Solution book. I'm looking forward to getting healthy habits back in place and getting active again. I know that this time is different. I'm ready....

Hi! I'm trying the Spark Coach free trial right now. Let's see how I do for the trial period, then I'll consider continuing on. Seems really reasonably priced compared to gym memberships (I try to workout at home/run/etc) and WW.

Hi, my name is Carol, I live in eastern Pennsylvania. I've been struggling with my weight my whole life. I don't know what it is like to be of normal weight. I have many health issues, diabetes, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, degenerative disc disease, and arthritis. I know that my overall health will improve greatly if I can shed this weight.

I'm hoping that with the support of SP, SC, and all of the Spark family I will be successful this time in losing some of this weight. My first goal is to lose 10% of my weight, then another 10% until I get down to my overall goal of 150.

I'm glad I'm here....Together we can do this!

Hi,

I'm a returning SparkCoach member. I joined a couple months ago, but I wasn't ready. Now that I'm back I'm doing the program well and happy with it. It takes a little motivation and discipline which I need more of. I'm a 63 year young woman with a sever back problem and Rheumatoid AutoImmune Disease. I belong to RAD group and love it. It's informational and very supportive. Since I've been on medicine for RAD my back has been much better. Inflammation and joint swelling and pain is my problem, but it doesn't keep me from being active. I practice Tai Chi, walk a mile a day and am a swim instructor with children. If it weren't for being the water, I wouldn't be able to heal and function. There's something about being in water that is so very theraputic. I love teaching the Learn to Swim Program to the children. I love playing in the water every day! Lol. I live in sunny SE Florida where the weather is really nice. I'm glad I moved here many years ago. I never thought about living here when I was older, but it sure does help having nice weather when it comes to the water, walking and exercising. Not that you can't do it in the cold areas, It's just that I think it's more desirable. I hope to be here a long time at SparkPeople. I think this place is awesome! The more involved I get in the program the more I find new things that I like. This place is well put together, I must say. My goal is to loose the 50 pounds I gained while having bad back pain and develop lifelong healthy eating and activity habits. Without health I think you have nothing but survival. It's not much just to survive. I want to LIVE! My only regret it that I didn't do, what I'm doing now, when I was in my twenties. It's never to late though. I keep getting healthier and healthier. That's all I can ask for.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hello everyone,

I've been with SP since July 2011. I lost almost 80 lbs and have regained about 30 of it back. I have 39-44 lbs to reach my goal weight. I am here because I have decided not to give up on myself and my dreams/goals. I have done several 5k's and two half-marathons. I really want to do a full marathon.

I am excited about being here and I am really thankful for SP.

Hi ! I'm Star. I joined this program so I could continue to move forward on my journey to health. I was working hard but I was "spinning my wheels" and getting very very tired and miserable. This program has been a breath of fresh air. Now I see where I am going. I work just as hard but now I am not "spinning my wheels" And I am not miserable!

Hi, I just joined sparkcoach today. Salymander, it seems like we are living parallel lives. I need to lose 33 pounds and increase my fitness. I always do better in a group, rather than trying to go it alone. I look forward to supporting my fellow travelers on this journey and to receive support and accountability.

I am turning 51 in a few weeks. I am about 80 pounds overweight and determined to get it off. My energy level is low, my blood pressure too high, and my self esteem low. I want to get to a weight where I don't dread outdoor activities or having someone take my picture. I am determined to do this and really change my life to eat healthier and MOVE...my job is sedentary so I need to get some action into it on my own. Love Jillian Michael work out videos so using those to kick off my efforts. Using the Spark Solution Meal Plan for two weeks to help break some bad habits I have formed. I WILL DO IT! emoticon
