I usually work my 3 12's back to back. I have a 2 day a week cardio plan and a 2 day strength plan. I do my free weights at home, I walk at work for my lunch time. I am really lucky to have a boss that is great, and a small family like facility where it isn't busy in the middle of the night. I am also finding the side benefit of having a boost of energy to get through the rest of the shift. I usually only walk at work about once a week, then on one of my days off I am doing yard work or cleaning or something quite energetic like that. It is working so far, the weight isn't coming off fast, but it is going somewhere.

It all depends on the type of night I have in the er. I go to the gym for the most part.

First 5 mile race 10/10/10
Time: 1 hr and 6 mins

Second 5 mile race 3/13/11

I'm the same way about not likely making it if I don't go right after work, so what I usually do is pep myself up all night, think about how good that shower is gonna feel, and how that bed is gonna feel after a really good workout. I remind myself that I sleep longer if I workout 1st and I dont have to feel guilty all day and constantly say to myself, ok I'm gonna go at 5...ok maybe 6, maybe 7 lol. Bringing my workout clothes along in the car at night also helps, because if I go home to change, I'm not leavin lol.

Sometimes I just have enough energy to get 30mins of cardio in, but I feel that's better than nothing. If it was a really tough night I consider that my workout lol and just go straight home.

Whwn I get off after a 12 hr shift, all I want to do is go home, take a shower, eat breakfast and go to bed. I can't even imagine going to exercise after being up all night. I invested in a couple of pretty good exercise equipment and get it done before I go to work.

Congratulations for even thinking of going to the Gym after a night shift. I just want to sleep. I hope you continue to remember that once your there how it is all good, so really maybe this is working for you more than you realize. Each time you do go to the gym smile, congratulate yourself and say I'm great not everybody can do this, but I can. All the best.

I have all good intentions of go to the gym after I have worked all night, because I know if I dont go then, I will not go later. It is sometimes so hard to motivate myself to get out of my car and go. Once Im there, I am good. Anyone else have this problem?
