My name is Latisha and I just joined this team. I try to switch it up from time to time and join new teams. I joined Spark People back in January 2015 and I am determined to reach my weight loss goal. I look forward to meeting new Spark Friends on this team and hopefully be able to encourage some of you along the way!

My Spark Page is really out-spoken. I left Spark People for about 2-3 years in a fury. I was in a team challenge and it was working for me and then some woman wrote in the team that our president (at the time) was born in Kenya and how dangerous it was.

I went ballistic. Partly because she wrote it and partly because she assumed that everyone would agree with her. That is was about as obvious as saying that the sky is blue.

And after a couple of days nobody corrected her; nobody engaged with her. So I said I was leaving the team and I said why.

At this delicate time in history, I am a political animal. I don't expect you to pass some sort of purity test, but I don't want you to spew hate and bigotry.

Hey team! I am Vicki in Brazil. I was a vegetarian for 2 years before I jumped into full vegan eating. What a challenge! I'm the only vegetarian/vegan in any of my circles. Finally found a restaurant here that serves mostly organic vege/vegan; none of my acquaintances want to try it! I don't go out much because I've had a few awful experiences but because I have begun traveling more, I need to figure out how to deal with my food. The benefits far outweigh the difficulties so I am not going to give up!!! My husband is a carnivore and, thankfully, fixes his own meals. I started the McDougall plan Wed. Any of you doing it?

Hi ya'll, I've not been on here much - just have entirely too many teams to deal with. So I'm voting myself off the island, since I've not been much of a player. I spend too much time online trying to check in with all the teams and feeling guilty when I don't. I need to spend that time EXERCISING and taking care of myself, so I can help others!! I haven't even been participating in teams I started - and that's a really sad state of affairs!!
emoticon
We'll likely see each other around on the Spark, and you can always stop by my page and say "Hi!". I'd like to think I could eventually re-join the team (that is, if you'll have me back!!).

So just wanted to let you know (in case anyone notices when the count drops by one!).

Cheers!
Julia

Hi - decided to join this team to get my motivation back. I've stalled badly for a couple of weeks. The list of monthly challenges looks a bit overwhelming, so I'm glad to be starting midstream. I'll at least get my feet wet and be ready to dive in when the next one rolls around.

Hi! I happened upon this SparkTeam just now, and thought to myself, "This sounds fun. This SparkTeam is just what I need right now to stir my Spark. This team will be my gift to myself!"

So here I am... I found SP in May while trying to find a calorie counter program online. I had no idea at that time what a gem I had uncovered!

Almost exactly a year ago, my husband and I both had annual physicals with our doctor. We always schedule them back to back on the same day as support for each other. We also always have our blood work done prior to the physicals so that we can speak directly to our doctor rather than just get a follow-up phone call from his nurse.

Well last December our doctor reported that we both had high blood pressure, I had elevated Cholesterol, and both our Triglycerides were off the charts! Of course we were both overweight, not exercising, and taking our health for granted. The Dr. stated that we could either talk about medication or we could lose 10% of our weight to see the equivalent or better improvement.

We chose that latter. By May we had both surpassed the 10% weight loss, felt great, and wanted to continue on this path to a healthy lifestyle. It was at this point that I wanted to find a program to track calories... I found SparkPeople and the rest is history.

Since joining SparkPeople I have lost another 27 lbs, learned so much about myself, and met so many supportive fellow Sparkers. My original plan was to reach my goal weight by the end of March 2013. I have been floundering a bit the last several weeks. That is where I think this SparkTeam will be of benefit to my goals.

I like a challenge, especially a fun and meaningful challenge. So let's get to it... Let's Spark!

hi
I am one of the left overs from the 100 days of Summer challenge. I did not meet the goal of 20 pounds lost those 100 days I did lose 10 some more than once. i leaned that non scale victories are just as important and rewarding that this team is very caring and supportive. I learned that staying the weight happens to ever one and we just need to stick with it and the the body gets the hint we are serious about getting the weight and deciders to let go of some of those pounds because we are feeding healthy food and not skipping meals I learned to enjoy going to the gym and even 8 weeks with a Personal Trainer for 30 minutes a week.
I learned that i don't need to weigh my self every day or even every week to feel good about my self I have gone 13 days so far plan is to see if i can go 20days before i peek.
I hope everyone has a great time sparking together for the 77 days

Hi, my name is Jacqueline and I have lost 6 lbs so far. Whoo hoo! I'm an actor, singer, and lots of other things. I've been changing my relationship with food which has been helpful. I think that spring and summer tie for my favorite seasons, however, I'm always up for a challenge. I've missed several so far, but I finished the Walk 5K challenge and can't wait to see what else I can do. Yay!

Jane,
I think you have buried a nugget of gold in your message. It is NOT about the number on the scale ( although we use those as indicators) it IS all about getting healthier. As long as you keep your focus on that, the numbers will follow; and the minor fluctuations that you have along the way will mean nothing over the long run.
Keep posting, outreach and contact are really important in this journey... at least, I think they are. :-)

I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life and it's time I get back to a weight I know will be healthier for me. I'm working towards getting down to 185 lbs. I won't be thin but I'll be much healthier than I am now.

I am not sure I should join this team... would like to lose 20 lbs this summer but... have had to keep resetting my goal because I'm not losing! I was supposed to reach it in August... then October... now November...

I'm super active renovating my house, possibly moving, figuring out what I want to do with my life next... normally a competitive athlete but can't figure out how to lose these 20 lbs I gained mostly due to medical issues (that have now resolved!)

I'm trying some new things, so let's hope they work!

I am a 61 year old single woman, grandmother of 2 and I am devoting my time currently to re-discovering ME. I have an over all goal of loosing more than 100 lbs. so this is a journey that requires a fair amount of patience. I have a broad range of interests from art and music to science and Buddhist philosophy. I am passionate about breaking fast food and sugar/salt/fat addictions. I am passionate about discovering who I am in this part of my life. I am a traumatic brain injury survivor, and have re-learned many, many things; and had to adjust to some things that will never be the same again. ( For example, I have no sense of smell.)
I am cultivating a new relationship with food, my self, my successes and those things that others might see as limitations, but that I see as challenges! I welcome contact with all that care to write, as isolation is not a happy place to be. Today I celebrate having lost a smidge over 45 lbs. I am doing the happy butt dance in the car as I drive to work this morning, for sure !!!!! emoticon

I am in school and have not had a lot of control over my food 3/4 of the year. This last semester I noticed that my classmates have responded to stress by either loosing weight until they are bone thin or gaining lots of weight- like 50-60 lbs in 2 years. I have gained 8 lbs, but it's 8 that I can't afford to gain.

Soooo this summer is drop 20 lbs. I have my eating thing doing well and have stopped having cravings. I am destressing by doing hot power yoga... ok and even with adapting positions I am about ready to fall over when I leave, I am doing 30 min of lifting each day except sunday- rotating between upper body, lower body and core... and power walking- which is also killing me. I have lost 3 lbs (even thought I think it's more as I lost 1.25 inches and was at my niece's wedding which means more salt than usual...) That said I am keeping on and going for 20- and looking for support...

I like to make lists for everything, I got an environmental degree in the hopes of not being a desk jockey for the rest of my life, but here I am in an office with no window... I recently moved to a new city and don't know many people here, so I have an abundance of time on my hands to exercise and do crafts (aka pinterest addict!). I have 1 husband, 2 cats and 3 siblings.

Something a little different about me is I like to eat yogurt with a plastic spoon. I realized this one day while I was searching out a plastic spoon at home. I think it's because when I was a home health aid I would get a yogurt snack on the road between clients. Naturally I used a plastic spoon. emoticon

I love the theatre - plays, musicals, etc. I don't go nearly as often as I would like. But I do love a good stage production, from the most professional set ups to basic community theatre in a school gymnasium.

Hi! I'm Ellen. I am finally taking my doctor's advice and exercising in the water. I love using the therapy pool or my hot tub for strength training, and water jogging for cardio. I wish I had started this long ago! I can actually work out for 30 minutes and then go on with my day without pain! As soon as school is out for summer, I am taking over the reins on our diet from my retired husband and will work on tracking nutrition as well. Until then, I am happy that he cooks during the week - so whatever he does is fine! (okay, I have introduced healthier habits by positive reinforcement, writing the grocery list and direct, specific praise.) emoticon

Hi all,
I have already told a little about myself, however I figured this would be a good place to tell about something I learned about myself this past weekend.

I have courage I did not realize I had. I went spelunking, (cave exploring). This is not something I would normally do, however when six little kids are going in, I could not show my fear and turn around. I have become more adventurous.

My husband and I are going to wedding June 16. I am looking forward to that weekend with just him. I know that I am not going to lose 10 pounds. So I am going to start off slow in weight lose goal. emoticon

Hi all: what is not readily apparent on my Spark page? Hmmm.... I KNOW that I look 10 years younger when I am at my goal weight. I'm very educated and under-employed. I hate coloring my hair but hate those few grays more than I hate coloring. Good, upbeat music from the 50's to now makes me feel good and helps motivate me to actually move a little! THANKS for starting this page; I'm sure it will help with summertime eating challenges!

If I eat what I've always eaten, I will weigh what I've always weighed!!!

Oops, I missed the point of this thread...LOL!! Let's see what can I tell you that's not obviously on my page. I'm 37 and I have a daughter that is 21 years old! She's a senior in college, majoring in Communications/broadcast journalism! We beat the statistics!! She made sure she wouldn't be a teenage mom! She saw just how much harder I had to work to get to where I am today!! Although I have 3 children now, Me and my oldest have a bond that can't be described!! I don't know what life would have been like without her!

I am Beth and from Alabama . I am 43 years old and have a total of 60 pounds to lose by May of next year. I am currently down 6 pounds...
I do workouts at home only... no gym for me. I like most everybody have a very stressful life.
I would like to know a little more about everybody and this challenge... when does it officially start?
Are any of you in Alabama.
Thanks for creating this... I think it will be fun to see everybody's progress through the summer.

Good luck to all.... I know we can do it!

I am 42 years old and I am learning to play the piano ! No musicians in our family and I never learned an instrument in school. I have been watching my daughter take piano lessons and have been following along for past 3 months. I am really enjoying learning to read music, write music and playing the piano !

something not on my spark page......

I use to be a cosmetologist, a weird fit for a chick who doesn't like makeup or use hair color. When I was in college I majored in pre-law.

I'm here by the sheer force of da Boss's recruitment. I live in a place that doesn't really have seasons. I'm in Quito, Ecuador. Because I'm an hour's drive from the equator and at 9,400 feet high, it's always spring here. The good news is that means outdoor activities are OK all year round. Well, that's not quite right. There ARE two seasons -- the wet season and the dry season. What you have in the Northern Hemisphere as summer corresponds to the local dry season.

I'm a nomad and have lived in many countries around the world. I speak a few languages well enough to get myself into a LOT of trouble. I'm married and have two teen kids, but only live with one teen and two cats. The DH has a job on another continent and my daughter is away at uni. Yes. We are strange.

I've been fat all my life and am feeling great at having lost a lot of weight. I'm highly motivated to keep going and to learn to KEEP it off by taking it off and maintaining the right way.
