Hi everyone! I'm Jennifer :) I will be 36 in 2 days, and I am just getting started on this journey. I joined on 7/18, and I have already lost 8 pounds by tracking my food and using the other tools here. It is so wonderful to see that so many people are joining this site and trying to make improvements or maintaining results.

I am looking to make friends and be supportive however I can. Yay!

Welcome to the team!! I also turned 40 this year in May and I will say that even though I'm the most fit I've probably EVER been (even though I was an athlete in my teens, I never had to WORK at being fit...so I consider this my fittest! LOL) I'm finding that my body is cooperating less and less with me! :-)

So I'm working on whipping it into shape...We can do this!!!

Hi everyone! I'm slow to introduce, still finding my way around this big and useful set of sites.

I'm Kate, turning 40 next week, and ready to get back to my best health ever. I lost 35 lbs a few years back and kept most of it off for ~5yrs, but a 1.5 year leg/back injury (sciatica related to scar tissue) really set me back, and I gained over 10lbs.

But I'm back on track now, and grateful to be well and here to get more healthy!

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful. -Buddha

Hello class! I have been busy with my stepson's county fair projects since I signed up at SP and hadn't even checked in. I'm a 36 year old Iowa girl with about 80 pounds to lose. I lost over 50 on weightwatchers a few years ago, but let an ACL injury slow me down then used that as an excuse to be way to sedentary! I'm ready to take control again and get healthy, but I can't decide what "plan" I want to us. Last time I tried to go back to WW, I was totally burned out and couldn't bring myself to spend money on something I wasn't committed to. So I'm starting here and I'm already pretty excited about the tools and support on SP!

Hi, everyone! My name is Abbey and I am a southerner relocated to New Jersey. I am the typical newlywed who has slowly steadily let my weight creep up since getting married. Now two years later I am determined to not just lose weight, but change my sedentary lifestyle. My honey is going to help me out by running with me daily, and I am using SparkPeople to stay accountable and motivated. I look forward to getting to know you all!

There were several things that hindered me from taking care of myself first. I was one of my dad's caregivers and he recently passed away April 15th. I really didn't know what to do anymore. I work night shift at a police dept dispatching and went to school in the mornings at UHD. The gym not so much... but I'm back! I used to be fit back in 2009 and now I'm taking my life back. A sergeant from work had told me about SparkPeople and decided to try it out. I have PCOS, so it's hard to lose weight and I'm gaining more energy from using Spark by Advocare. I've lost 3% body fat!

Hey peeps
My name is Lisa, I'm a 21 year old university student from Sudbury Canada, and I'll admit, this is not my first time on spark people. I have had great success with this site losing 15 pounds in less than 3 months. Unfortunately I gained 4 pounds since but I'm back on that horse and I'm determined to lose another 10 pounds. The thing about my journey is that it started because I wanted to lose weight, but I quickly started to realize that I became a much happier person, more social, friendly, ambitious and well... just very well rounded. This had nothing to do with how I looked, but had everything to do with how I felt about myself. I know that sounds clich and when I started this journey, I always thought people who said that were just silly, but it's gods honest truth. I'm doing this not to lose weight (although it's a bonus) I'm doing this to feel confident in my abilities. I'm looking forward to becoming confident again.

Hello everyone. Wow, over 10,000 people who started SP this week?! That is amazing. All those people wanting to be healthier, more fit, thinner, whatever... I am here for my health and quality of life. I was on the right track last year and it felt A.Ma.Zing! I want that back. My oldest daughter is on here and she is going to be my coach/motivator/support team. LOL She definitely inspires me. I have a long, long way to go and I plan to enjoy every step.

My name is Tatjana and I am trying to get in shape and I am trying to get in Shape (the magazine). Basically I want to work out and get myself in shape to get more modeling gigs. I have no interest whatsoever in becoming an anorexic runway model, but I would love to do some more fitness, swimsuit and lingerie modeling. I have had some local experience but to get to the next level, I know I need to tone up a bit more. I have noticed that I often lack the motivation to do something. In college I had classes and was in dance groups and constantly active. Now I am doing stuff, but mostly I am just working on my computer and applying to auditions. I want to actually go out there and get gigs and I know for that I need to get off my butt and do something. I hope to find the support that I need on Sparkpeople and I am grateful for any advise or motivational (virtual) kick in the behind that I can get!

Hi everyone! My name is Violet, and I'm in my twenties. I got married a little less than a year ago, and have gained some weight since (after never actually reaching my goal weight for the wedding). I have a bad habit of giving up after losing just a little bit of weight, but this time I'm determined to reach my final goal, no matter how long it takes. :D I'm so excited to succeed with all of you lovely folks!

Hi Everybody!

I'm Ellen and have used Spark before. Last year I thought I'd totally kicked weight issues with the Eat to Live program form Dr. Fuhrman but it's so restrictive that I've gradually gained back the weight I lost. So now I'm trying for a more realisticapproach using The Beck Diet Solution. Here's to success for all!!

Hi everyone-My name is Diane and I just joined SP and I am learning my way around. I am 50 and I live in southwest Michigan, where it is Hot Hot Hot right now. I am very excited about the things I have seen so far on this site and I look forward to applying them to my life and seeing the changes that will come as a result.
I have a bunch of health issues (ie arthritis, diabetes, hypothyroidism, depression) and I am hoping that as I work through this program the limitations I have from these conditions will become fewer, or maybe even be gone altogether.
I look forward to getting to know you all and maybe make some lasting friendships.

Hi everyone, can't wait for our one year reunion someday :). I love the diversity of this group as well, nothing is stronger than a diverse force of people.

My name is Ann, I'm 58, and started SP on Sunday the 15th for the first time. I've been using the 8 week challenge diabetics team pages, prediabetic, and want to be successful at keeping myself that way. I live in Northern Michigan, currently on vacation, so quite chatty this week. When I'm working it's much harder to check in here or with myself, so trying to start some good habits this week.

First observation this week for me ... I love Spark Points! It's a quicky little achievement, and I'm hooked on the benefits. I made level 3 this morning emoticon

I am the Magic in my life.

Hi everyone, I'm Cindy. I've been on and off again a lot. I got hurt in April 2012 and torn my ACL in my left knee and have gone over the weight I said I'd never get to. Now that I am mobile again and able to walk, I am ready to get back on the horse and do this again!

My life was totally turned upside down when I got hurt, but now the clouds are starting to show some sunshine and it's time to take my life back in so many ways, this is one of them. I am officially starting Monday but I am going to start limiting myself this weekend to get myself ready for the real thing!

Hello,
Newbie to SP...I would love to loose 30-40 lbs by Christmas and will be logging her daily (fingers crossed) for support.
I'm married and have a great husband who is supportive of me, but I would like the support of people who are also trying to get fit.
I work a full time job and a part time job, so working out and eating right kind of fell by the wayside.
I've read everyone's intros and am excited to get going!

I'm shooting to loose 5 lbs by the 2nd of August...(trying to start small and realistic)

Rewards:

5 lbs - earrings
10 lbs - workout shoes
15 lbs - facial
20 lbs - dress clothes for work
25 lbs - jeans
30 lbs - swimming suit
35 lbs - purse
40 lbs - weekend trip

Hi,

I'm Rashele;I'm 31 years old and live in Sacramento, CA. I love reading and traveling and just got married to my wonderful hubby in June (it's still weird calling him that). I'm new to SparkPeople (just started the account yesterday) and am already very excited about the support and motivation that people offer here. Everyone is so positive! It seems like a great environment and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better.

HI Kelly!

Really impressed with your 5K! I started going to the gym about a month ago and downloaded the Coach to 5K app on my iphone and decided to try it on the treadmill...just Week 1, Day 1...and bam....could only make through the 2nd minute of running. I'm going to keep working on getting a little stronger with my walking and maybe attempt again.

But that's great! (And yes...I think you can still blame it on the pregnancy :-))

HI Everyone!

Spark newbie! Need to lose 50 lbs of baby weight. (Ok....I can still count it as babyweight if they are 13 right? (Oh and that's 13 YEARS not months.) It was twins.....so that should count for something...right? And a total of 4 kids all together..... See why I have a problem? ;-)

Look forward to joining this special class and reaching all of our goals, no matter how long it takes :-)

Not yet but working towards it -- Skinni Ginni :-)

Hi everybody!

I'm Elena,

I'm excited to be on sparkpeople again! I really like how diverse it is in this group, people from all over the place, in all different kinds of situations, it's kind of tripping me out actually.

I did sparkpeople a little while ago, but I stopped, not because it wasn't effective, I think it was, but I got weirdly shy and embarrassed about it and I've been thinking about why.

I have always had really horrible food issues and body image issues and even though I am at a healthy weight now, it is something that still plagues me, because I was very overweight all through middle school and into high school.

I feel even worse because I know that I look fine, everyone tells me I look fine, and I even exercise for a living (sort of) so I know, objectively, that I'm very healthy when it comes to my weight.

But I cannot seem to uncouple my self-worth from my body weight, I cannot seem to shake this desire to be thin. So I feel guilty about using a site like this to achieve a goal that I am deeply ambivalent about. I also feel bad because I believe that fat acceptance is super important! I'll never forget how betrayed I felt when I lost weight and the world radically changed for me. How dare things get so much easier all of a sudden! Didn't everyone know that I was still the exact same person? I read f.a. blogs all the time and I truly feel that the world would be a much better place if women weren't acculturated to believe that being thin is synonymous with being a better person. Because it SO does not! Being an awesome person who thinks and cares and questions and acts is synonymous with being a better person. So I guess I'm trying to "be healthy" and "live a healthy lifestyle" but I also need help remembering that living a "healthy lifestyle" does not have anything to do with a number on a scale. That being said I STILL wanna change the way I look (GAH! This culture has done such funny things to my mushy little brain!)

So, I dunno, I'm gonna try to use the more social aspects of it this time, but I probably wont log calories, unless I freak out one day and overeat, in which case I will probably obsessively log calories for like, two days.

Wow, this was a really long rant. I should not have had coffee so late at night. Self notes to self.

Anyway. I'm 29, I live in Brooklyn, I got married last month, and I work and teach at a performance art space / aerial circus training facility. I also make costumes. And write. Sporadically.

Hi everyone!
I am new to the group and would like to introduce myself. My name is Autumn I am looking to lose about 20 lbs. I just delivered a healthy 10lb 11oz little boy which I carried for another couple. I have lost most of my weight in about 3 weeks but I would like to lose more as well as tone up my body. I am looking forward to my new gym membership as well as trying out some new recipes.

Hello Everyone.
I am Kelly and new to SP. Have tried every diet, owned every piece of gym equipment, and have been on the weight gain/loss roller coaster for the past 10 years. Would love to blame it on pregnancy but my children are now 8 and 12.
This past weekend I completed a 5K mud run and half way through I felt I was going to fall over and die. Really looking for my motivation back and feeling good about myself.

Hey Everyone!

I've got the same story - I gained weight in graduate school - lost weight - then got sick and gained it all back again! I'm now at my highest weight ever. I know what I need to do to loose weight. I know I would feel better if I did - and not just by having a better body image - but by being more energetic and 'zingy.' It's a matter of getting into fit habits and making them a part of my lifestyle.

My husband and I are big on gardening and the 'hobbit life'- we are also looking to start a family sometime next year. So - big motivation there! Just need some support - and looking to provide it as well.

Hi everyone! My name is Sharon and I am coming back to SparkPeople after being gone for about 2 years. I'm looking forward to checking in with all of you as Class Team Members. If we make small goals to use as steps to reach our ultimate goal, we will all make it to the top of our mountain and be successful. I need to lose 40 lbs but I need to do it in the right manner. So, I will first say that I want to lose at least 5 lbs during the next 3 weeks (hey, I can hope for more but I'll still be very happy to reach the goal of "at least" 5!!!) Think positive!! And as I say everyday - Failure is NOT an option!

My jaw about dropped at my last check up. I knew I had gained weight again, the rolls and how poorly my clothes fit clued me in there, but I had no idea how much! I was appalled! I am at my highest weight ever. So, some fitness bug bit me Sunday night and I said I'm starting again, and this time for good. I know what to eat, but still seem to struggle with how much. I also struggle with making exercise a priority.

I love walking and strength training, sadly the heat has prevented me from going out and some recent life changes forced me to cancel my gym membership. I know I can lose change and do it in a smart way, I just have to do it. Thankfully, I have support from my friends as well, one of whom is likely in this group, but I haven't seen him yet.

My goals are to return to my super happy weight of 150 (happy weight is 170), get my 30" waist back, and find myself shopping for a size 8. Along the way, I'm going to save some money up and then take a celebratory trip to Europe.

And I know that every one of us can do it!

Okay, my turn. I had my annual check up yesterday and was shocked to see how much weight I've gained in the last year (17 pounds in one year!). I've done SP a couple of times before with success, so I know I can do it this time too. I've never really been one to post on the message boards or get involved in the community but this time I really want to.

I'm 30 years old and have been married for one year (hence the weight gain!). I used to work in the fitness industry as a trainer for Curves, so I should be in better shape than I am. This past year I hurt my back and I haven't been exercising as much as I should but it's starting to feel a bit better so I figured I should serious about dropping all of this extra weight.

Nice to 'meet' everyone -- I look forward to getting to know people on the boards, etc.

I have to tell all of you that I wasn't new to losing weight either...I think many of us could attest to the fact of many started and failed attempts at losing, fad diets, exercise fads, etc. But I can also say that SparkPeople is DIFFERENT! I finally feel like I'm not anywhere near being "on a diet". I am LIVING a healthy life! There's no fad diet that does that...This is all about losing weight and getting healthy in a SMART way.

So continue to explore and have fun!

Hi, I'm MIchelle

I'm not new to sparkpeople, but am here to start from scratch. I had my weight under control and well on my way to my goal, but accidents happen. One broken foot and torn lateral ligament in the knee later and I am back in need of motivation and support.

I have to take things slow, but hopefully soon I will be back to my Yoga teacher training and a comfortable weight.

Good Luck Everyone!

I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.

Hello Everyone!

I've known about spark people for years but never took it seriously. I know I need to lose weight for multiple reasons but I've decided the most important is for myself! I live in Chicago with my husband and dog! I look forward to this journey with everyone!!

My name is Brenna and I am looking forward to getting started this week! My doctor and I think we have the weight gain I have been experiencing figured out. Insulin Resistance, not diabetic, but sugars are high after fasting test. Plus I have some other issues going on that are probably a factor. So I am using this site for tracking my food and fitness, so far, (day two) so good!

Hi-
I'm new to spark and look forward to all the neat tips and tools that will help to motivate us on our journey to better health! I entered my walk into the fitness tracker tonight and was able to map out my route, very neat!

I'm married, the mother of two grown children, and have struggled with weight since my teen years. I have lost weight in the past, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot, but continue to fight the fight!

Look forward to connecting with others!

I think that this alot to juggle and keep track of but with your everyone's help it will be achieved. I see that everyone else on here also has alot going on in their lives and believe that we are all capable of reaching our goals.

Good luck, we can do it!!

I totally understand the challenge of a full work week with dieting. When on the go it is easy to lose track of what you have eaten throughout the day and keep up the fitness. Hopefully we will be able to use the groups to keep us motivated.

Welcome to all of you so far! I love the new class groups because it is such a diverse group of people and the sole thing bringing us all together is the fact that you signed up during a specific time period! But what this means for all of you is that you are in a group of folks that know EXACTLY where you are at right now at the beginning of your journey, or for those of you returning, at the start of a brand new branch on your journey. :-)

As I was reading through all the welcomes and intros I realized that there are so many tips for those getting started - I think we should start a thread (if the wonderful Cee, that has done so much to get this team up and running for ya'll, hasn't done it already!) to share tips and tricks for navigating this healthy journey.

But to get started - my #1 is to get connected with others - so really happy to see you all already getting active and posting!! Don't forget that Cee and I are here to help you with whatever you need - please feel free to add me as a SparkFriend and private message or post to the boards any questions you have. Believe me, NOTHING is off-limits or too silly to ask - we are all in this together!

I'm Paula, 50+, empty nester, mom of 2, workaholic. I've watched my weight creep ever upward. Woke up one day and the scale was well above the 200 mark. I want to get it back below that!

I'm Jen, a 32 year old living in Southern California. I have lost weight successfully in the past, but this time I have a LOT more weight to lose. I'm getting over an illness right now so I am spending my first week focused only on diet changes and will have to wait a week or two before I incorporate exercise, but need to start getting on the right track.

Hi all!
I'm Elisabeth a 21 year old Environmental Science student entering my last year of University. I'm terrible at exercising consistently and am hoping for someone to force me to do it regularly! I stepped on the scale the other day and had a bit of a scare, seems that going home for a month of my mother's feeding added even more notches to my belt. Hoping to drop those pounds along with many many more.
Best of luck!

Hi!

I'm Amy, a 26 yr old general manager at a fast food restaurant. I'm hoping that being here will help keep me committed and motivated instead of just letting myself not care about doing things that will help me for the first time in my life not be overweight.

Nice to meet all of you!

Hi! I'm Lisa, a twenty year old college student and self professed nerd. I like history, psychology, science, and random trivia. I'm a wanna be runner, and a bit of a spaz. I say this because I went to reset my stats today, and deleted my account instead. Whoops! I'm using this opportinutiy to mentally reset. I'm currently injured, so for the next two weeks it'll be light exercise for me, but otherwise I'm ready to do this :)

Hi team!
I'm Snake. I'm an ex-sparker, back again, and I know things will be different this time!
I'm 22, I work 60+ hour weeks, which is definitely the biggest difficulty with losing weight.
Anyway, I really hope to get to know more about all of you and have an incredible, supportive team!

(。ω`)ノ Love, Snake.
This time will be different!!

Hi everyone! A co-worker has been raving about SparkPeople for ages, so I finally decided to come and check it out. I was in Weight Watchers until a few months ago; I didn't do the program faithfully, so stopped making progress (and regained everything) after losing about 40 pounds. My biggest challenge will be getting started again (took step one by joining here!) and sticking with it long term. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

Hey there team! I'm Kristen and am one of your co-leaders so I figured I should let you know a little about me. I'm a mom of four and Nana of two and have been working on this healthy journey for the past 3 years. It's been a long journey and I'm still not at goal, but I figure that I will eventually get there! I'm just enjoying the scenery along the way...LOL

My favorite fitness activities are running, hiking and even though I wouldn't pick it as a favorite, I love how it makes me feel so good - strength training. I have run multiple 5k's, 3 10ks, and 2 Half Marathons. I suppose a full marathon is on my fitness bucket list, but it's a scary prospect still!

My non-fitness activities are reading, spending time with the family and friends, and watching movies.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you as you begin your journey at Spark! Please let me know if there's anything I can assist you with...and Best Wishes on a successful start on your road to whatever you want!
