Good morning!
So last January (2011), after seeing a picture of myself at Christmas, I decided I needed to change my life. I decided that on my 30th birthday (February 2012), I would be healthy once again. I weighed 265 on January 10th 2011. I started walking. Within a few weeks, my sister convinced me to do a half marathon in April with her. Then I had done one in 2007; trained some, but not like I should. So I gave it my all. I was walking almost every day using a Hal Higdon training plan. I received a BodyFit Media for my birhtday which gave me the extra motivation I needed. Being able to see the calories burned was huge! Soon I began to feel better, eat healthier and just make better choices. I was able to do the half marathon and I wasn't even sore! I kept it up all year and only missed working out less than 10 days last year. I've lost 90 pounds since then!!!!! I feel better, I look better, I can wear normal size clothes again. When I was heavier, I didn't even realize what I was missing out on. I was totally convinced I could do everything a healthier, fitter person could do. Boy was I wrong! Now, however, the sky is the limit. I'm surprising myself everyday. I'm still working to lose another 35 pounds, and I'm 100% confident I will reach my goal and continue to be fit for life.

Hello, I am from Colorado, and I am a (fairly newly wed 3 years) married -- 42 y/o with 2 kids, an 11-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old son. I am feeling horrible about my weight. -- its like all the sudden it is catching up to me -- I went forever as a young person 5'9 and only 135; now suddently I am 235. I know that 135 is impossible for me at my age, and after having 2 children, but I would realistically like to loose around 80 pounds. and more than that I want to feel healthy and exercise!!

So, I am beginning anew. Trying to find some motivation to exercise and get healthy. My struggles seem to be against finding the time to exercise and the desire to eat more than I should because I love the taste of food.

Any encouragement would be a wonderful thing -- feel free. could use all the help I can get. Thank you in Advance!!! Becky

Hello my name is Jolene. I live in Mn but for the next 2 mths I will be in Fl. I have one son who has been in the Marines since 2009. I have a wonderful man in my life maybe marriage someday but have to wait and see. I have been on here since 2009 and love the web site. It is perfect for me but just can't seem to keep on track. I will be turning 50 this year and hoping with that in mind and joining the gym will jump start my exercise program again. Working out with others in my situation is a great motivator at least the best one I have come up with so far. Friday will be one week and already I feel better in more ways than one. My eating habits is healthier than ever but just need to learn to keep my portions in control. All a person can do is their very best and that I am trying to do. emoticon

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

It's the journey. We can do this.

Hi everyone. I hate to say this, but by Dr.'s orders I must bow out of this challenge group. I had a bunch of stitches put in my face and any strenuous activity might cause them to pop. So no workingout for me for the next 3 weeks. I did enjoy following along with the routines, but I'll be out of comision for the rest of the challenge.
Stay strong and keep with it.. unless yer doc says otherwise. LOL

Hello All,
I joined the challenge to help hold myself accountable and to have structure and a plan for weight loss. My 25th anniversity is this July and my goal is to be back at or near my wedding weight by then. emoticon

This is not my first attempt and I maintain a pretty decent diet, but I'm sure if I cut calories and make excercise a part of my daily routine I will drop the pounds this time.

I just had gallbladder surgery last week and am not going to be able to work out at a high level yet, but I plan to do what I can.

Good luck everyone!

I'm Zulma from Philadelphia.& I've started today with the 8-Minute Athletic Intervals Workout video. I even took the time after I did it to watch it again so I could write down the exercises. This way if I'm in a hurry on any day I can, at the very least, get good cardio benefit.

I'm on my way to Target to buy the 28-day bootcamp video (as soon as I figure out where I put that coupon).

I'm really looking forward to this challenge. I need it.

emoticon Ok, starting over at Week 1.
Again.
For real this time.
No, don't make that face at me. REALLY!

I even started today.

I'm concurrently doing "Jump Start in January" and "Healthy Cooking."

For week one I'm supposed to,
1. Set my Goals, do a 10min workout vid per day, do 5 cardio sessions per week, and track those workouts.
Also,
B. Plan meals for the week, Makeover my kitchen, and set goals.

Here are my goals:
To actually accomplish aforementioned Week 1s.
Seems small, but considering I don't usually make it out of Week Ones (I get 'busy' or 'miss a day, two days, a few days' and give up.) Doesn't sound like such a silly goal, now does it.

I'm starting my cardio sessions at ten minutes (unless I'm running, and then I'm going by mileage.) My over all PT goal is to KEEP DOING IT. I've purchased tickets into a couple runs coming up SOON and need to be ready for them. I'm excited to run them.

I made plans for this weeks meals, last week. And should have the week after that scheduled out too. My problem is that I'm HUNGRY. Like today, I bought my max of calories, and eaten them, and I feel ravenous. My diet isn't a problem, when I workout, but I haven't been. The diet that works great for a couple weeks suddenly ends up feeling like not enough. Bah.

I don't have junk food to throw away, really. We have some spinach dip left over, and a couple beers/wines. Some mix for brownies, but I won't make it any time soon. Besides, I know that our fave foods are okay in moderation and in small portions. I did throw away the rest of the Christmas candy that got thrust at us. I didn't even like them that much but I'd eat 4-5 of them a day!

TODAY, I did the 9 minute "Seated Upper Body" video. I know, seated... but I work 16 hours today and can't really get all sweaty. It was pretty ab-shoulder-tweaking anyway. Bonus points for using Lysol cans as 1lb dumbbells. At least I did something. Last week I walked 14k steps, but the turning (booth is L shaped) tweaked my knee and even today walking that turn was slightly painful.

This time, I'll stick with it. :)

Hello, I'm Debbie from New Mexico. I actually joined the team last week but neglected to introduce myself to the fellow members. I have been a member of Spark People since around this time in 2009. I had success in losing weight but gained it back. No excuses, just did. I have through out the time continued to read the articles, motivational blogs, and accumulate Spark Points. I'm looking forward and not back...and intend to use all the great information I have accumulated to keep to the goal.
My best wishes to all who have joined. emoticon Today is a new day!

Hi all,

I decided to restart the challenge to ensure I will be accountable for the duration. I want to EARN this trophy! I was down and out with a head cold for week one, and just spent a week in Mexico, albeit a very active week, but no strength training. Since my goal for joining the challenge is to jumpstart myself into a strength training routine, I'm going back to day one of week one today!

Good luck to all who are entering week 3!

Hello, My name is Tricia. I'm 30 years old. I started using this site to lose weight back in September (I think), and it did help to me to add exercise to healthy eating, and I did enjoy the results. However, after Halloween hit, it was a downward spiral, and I haven't really had much luck getting back on track. Well, its the new year and we are past all of the holiday eating, stress and overall slump. I'm finding that my self-esteem has taken a nose dive and my energy and motivation are in the dumps. I just hit a real low and it's time to get back on track. I needed more than a gradual start because I knew that wasn't enough right now to keep on track, so I'm hoping this "Jump Start" with the help of a community to go along with me might be what I need. I'm starting out at 195 right now (but my scale isn't that great and can be a little inconsistant at times, so its something like that anyway), and I'm hoping to lose about 60ish. So here goes!

Hello all, I'm jumping in on this challenge a little late, but better late than never! I'm a teacher from the suburbs of Chicago. I have been doing Weight Watchers - lost 15, gained 5. Now I'm in for the last 15. My actual goal is to get healthier. I do cardio 2-3 times a week at Ballys/LAFitness, yoga & pilates once a week each in a continuting ed class. I need the social support/pressure to get the weight lifting (strength training) into my routine. My best time to work out is early in the morning before school. I credit my exercise and diet changes for being able to get my cholesterol meds decreased last year. emoticon

my name is valarie, i have been using SP for along time now, and i joined this challenge, because back in october i was scheduled to have lap band surgery, but due to reasons i wont go into now, i backed out of it, and here i am
i guess i got too comfortable thinking, ok, i have been preparing for the surgery with diet for so long, i can take a little break.
and so i did, and i gained, and i gained more with the holidays.
and i am up about 8 lbs.....
so now, not only do i need to lose that extra weight, i need to get back into a regular routine of exercise and eating healthy.
i was looking for a jumpstart and this fell into my lap.

My name is Victoria, I've never tried anything like this before. (I.e. Losing weight, group discussions about it) So i hope it works. I've reached my all time high of 188.8 pounds and it just adds to my depression. I know that it's sort of my fault since i'm a binge eater. I Started gaining weight really quickly since last summer. Long story short my dad hit a middle-aged crisis and left us for a while, it gave me depression to not have him around and even though he's back now my weight hasn't gone back. I Want to lose all the weight I've gained since then and more to reach my ultimate goal of 120 lbs right now my goal for Prom time is 135 and i really hope i can get there.

Well, not sure what to say in a self introduction.... So...
Hey everyone! My name is Alyssa. I am 18... I am 296 lbs currently (that is my start weight). My ultimate goal weight is 120 lbs. I hope to lose about 110 lbs this year out of the 176 I have to lose. I know it's a huge number, but it's not impossible. It's actually pretty reasonable if you look at it as 2-3 lbs a week... Umm... I guess that's it... Other stats are in my signature.

Hi, everyone! My name is Anja, and I've been doing my best to start this year out right. I never really believed that sharing your goals with other people was a key element to success, but through a series of events since the beginning of the month I'm quickly learning that's not true. Sharing my goals with my loving and supportive boyfriend has given me the confidence to see this thing through, and knowing that he's there to encourage me without judgement has motivated me to stick through when things get tough and not to let anything get me down (for long, anyway). There are so many things that we want to do together this year, and if I want to take a five mile hike into the American River Canyon this summer, I better start getting fit before we decide to go.

Looking forward to all the amazing adventures I'm going to have for the rest of my life, and the first steps start here. Good luck to everyone!

HI EVERYONE, my name is Robin. I am new to Sparkpeople. I am a former Weight Watchers leader & receptionist. I'm married to my wonderful husband of 22 years, who is active duty National Guard. I have 3 children and am awaiting the exciting birth of my 1st granddaughter in May. Her name is Skyler. Long story short....never had weight issue until I had children in 1991 & 1993. Joined Weight Watchers & lost 60 lbs. on in '98. Life started getting in the way after including very, very stressful events such as moving twice to 2 different states, death of my Mother, and deployment to Iraq of my husband. I ate my way through the stress. I ballooned to an all time high weight this past summer of 234. I was devastated. Now I have some very serious health issues I have been diagnosed with; my health has been declining since Jan. 2009. I spent this past Christmas & New Year, (10 days), in a hospital in N.C. after traveling there from Arkansas for Christmas. I was very ill with pneumonia which I've had 5 times in 1 1/2 years. I was diagnosed with some other things including asthma and restrictive air disease (RAD) on top of other illnesses/diagnosis I already had. Now after being in the hospital for 10 days and being put on a low carb/low fat/diabetic diet there I have lost 20 lbs. since Dec. Losing it sick is the hard way but I am losing. Excited about being part of the group. Thanks for letting me ramble. :)

Hello everyone! My name is Danielle. I have never participated in a group challenge or any challenge really. I can never find anyone that wants to lose weight (and is serious enough to do something about it) with me and hold each other accountable. I am hoping, with all of the great things I see and hear about SP, that this time will be different! I look forward to "working out" with all of you! If anyone needs an accountability buddy, let me know!! I have been overweight since graduating high school and continue to put on weight. I was up to 230 but over the last few months have dropped about 10 pounds. My goal is to be 140 by the end of the year. I want this year to be the year to end my self-consciousness and self-loathing!! I want to feel good about myself again!
Best of luck to you all!!

Hi, sorry for the late introduction. My name is Karen and I've been on SparkPeople since last March 2011, and I LOVE it! I still can't believe all that they offer and it's all free!! I'm so corny being one of their biggest fans! I tell anyone about SP that will listen :) I've lost 10 1/2 inches off my body, and a few pounds since beginning, and I'm really starting to feel more energetic and encouraged.
I joined the January Jumpstart Challenge because I feel that challenges work GREAT, providing teamwork and motivation toward goals. I look forward to being on your team!

Hi I joined this challenge because the holidays and life got in the way of me being able to work out. So I am hoping this will get the booty in gear again!

Hello everyone. Name is Matthew. I have been with Sparkpeople for over two years and have made great strides in losing weight and keeping the weight off. I have rarely been active on forums, but decided with the New Year to be more active and make some great friends with common goals. Looking forward to starting the year right with this challenge and kicking some butt!

Hola! I'm Nellie, but a lot of people call me cooks or cookie. A friend of mine referred me to this challenge, and I'm hoping I can leep up. I haven't excercised in forever, and I have at least 35lbs to deal with this year. I've already lost 45 last year, so there has been progress. Problem has been, the lack of time and opportunity to excercise. The stuff I see here is quick, and helps me keep the movement going.

Thanks all, and good luck. :)

Hi all! My name is Georgianne and I live in Arkansas. I have been going to Weight Watchers for a year now and have lost about 30 lbs. Recently my husband and I enrolled in a local gym. We have been going together on Sundays and I am trying 3 times a week. I have made it three times so far so I feel pretty good about myself.

Hi I am Teri. I took some time away from Sparks after I did my first 5K at the beginning of June. Really reget it because I gained weight back. I was down to 143 but hanging in bwt 145-150. I went back up to 179 but since I started back on the 3th and join this challenge I have already lost 4 pounds.

New to this challenge. My name is Kathy, I need to lose around 45 lbs. to get healthier. Thought I'd try to do this simply because it was offered. Good luck to all of us who are making the commitment.
