That sounds like a great start! I lost my first 8 pounds here just by cutting out the sugar. It does take an awful lot of time to log. I've cut down the time logging food and exercise by simplifying our menus, entering a few favorite meals into the recipe calculator, using the "group these foods" function, etc. It works because my family will eat things over and over again without complaining. I don't know if that would work for you.

Maybe you should pick what you do first based on what's harder for you? If you enjoy exercise but don't like to eat right, maybe start with logging the food. But if you're eating well already, and have an idea of portion sizes (there's that "Bikini Diet" that sounds obnoxiously horrid but is useful for estimating proper portion sizes), maybe concentrating on the exercising would be the way to go?

I am a homemaker with an amazing husband and 6 incredible kids. Off and on for 12 years I have been pregnant and nursing and now am needing to get in shape and loose some baby weight. But I want to be able to run with my kids, play soccer, swim, and hike. Basically be ready for any impromptu moment with my family. I would love to learn to ride a unicycle and buzz around with my Hubby. It is also hard to find exercise time without feeling guilty when my kids need me.
So far I think that SparkPeople is a great resource but I have a hard time finding the time to enter everything that I need to in order to keep track of everything. I seems quite overwhelming. I would like to know what to do first to get the most of using this site. Mostly I have just cut out refined sugar and flour and I am feeling better already.
