I have osteoarthritis in my knees, hips and back. I use a combination of anti-inflammatory medications, arthritis strength acetaminophen, muscle relaxants and pain patches. Once I get the pain flare down, movement helps to stop it from recurring as often. I chair march/dance in a sturdy chair when I can't walk well.

I am guessing that DJD is degenerative Joint Disorder since that is the initials that they use for my knees. Am I correct?? I also use Pain Away back pain patches or a cheaper solution is Salon Pas patches. If my back is out (which it has been lately) I take Percocet and Tizanadine. Tizanadine is a muscle relaxer that is really strong and it puts me to sleep. I can't drive on it, but it is great for getting rest. You might ask your doctor about it.

Hi Pat. I have DDD, but I don't know what DJD is. I do understand back pain though. The Dr. gave me pain patches for when it gets real bad. I go to the pool and exercise in the water. That does help because the water is very easy on your joints, you're weightless. It really does strengthen the back muscles. Believe it or not walking helps me sometimes.

It depends on the cause. My usual muscle pain gets some A535 rub or heat (never both). If that doesn't work, I take muscle relaxant/pain med combo.
Not knowing what DJD is, I'm guessing that it's got a more serious cause, in which case, I'd ask my doctor what is safe and effective.

I use a spray called Stop Pain. You can usually find it at Walmart. It works really well and really numbs the pain.

I find that if I lay on the floor and prop my feet up on the couch, it releases some of the pressure on my back. I take 3 plain aspirin.

Maybe a muscle relaxer.
DH uses ice, then heat and keeps alternating.
Hope it's better soon.
