Thanks for answering. I’ve had many surgeries this year and I get tired a lot.

How do I add or edit the ticker on my Message Board posts?
Some members like to share their progress with the SparkPeople Community. One way to do this is to add a ticker to your Message Board posts.

To add a ticker to your Message Board post:
Click on "Start" in the top left corner of the screen.
You'll now see your Start page.
Roll your mouse over the "Edit Goals & Preferences" link in the upper left corner of the page.
Click on "Account/Email Preferences" in the drop-down menu.
You'll now see three tabs (Account, Email and Community).
Click on the "Community" tab, which is the third tab to the right.
Click on "Signature & Ticker," which is the sixth button down.
You'll now see "My Ticker" page.
Check the box that says "Yes! Show my ticker on the Message Boards and my SparkPage."
Select the ticker option you would like.
Once you select your ticker, a new section may open up below your ticker option. If a new section opens up, you will need to enter more information, such as a date, start weight & goal weight, type of event, what you gave up, etc. (Dates should be entered as m/d/yyyy. Ex: 1/1/2011)
Click on "Chose a ticker icon."
Click on the icon you would like to show on your ticker.
Click on "Choose a ticker background."
Click on the background you would like to show on your ticker.
Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

To edit your ticker:
Click on "Start" in the top left corner of the screen.
You'll now see your Start page.
Roll your mouse over the "Edit Goals & Preferences" link in the upper left corner of the page.
Click on "Account/Email Preferences" in the drop-down menu.
You'll now see three tabs (Account, Email and Community).
Click on the Community tab, which is the third tab to the right.
Click on "Signature & Ticker," which is the sixth button down.
You'll now see "My Ticker" page.
Make any necessary changes.
Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

Indygirl or NewSparkDebbie, How do you get that weight loss line across the bottom of the messages to show your progress? I see a lot of people have them.

If you go to your start page in the upper right corner click on points, go daily community opportunities and under the community section of daily opportunities you will see second from last spot says use bonus spin. Click on that and it should take you to a page with red flags for your team. You can earn 5 spins for your different teams. Click on flags of teams you want team bonus points for

Intros do get mixed up. The place for them is in the intros section. Some people choose other places.

I hope this is not a dumb question. I am new to the team and put my intro up, but after I did, I noticed that some intros were in one place (as replies within the intro post) and others were separate topics in the intro section. I added mine as a topic and am hoping I did it in the right place. If not, please let me know and I can move it.

I would use that 7th day to mix it up. Go have fun with exercise. Take a class in yoga to relieve pain and stress. Try Tai Chi for pain and stress. I know you have neck problems. Maybe a stretching or band routine for resistance.

:::What are your thoughts on taking a 'rest day' if you have put time and quality into
exercise all week? . Or would you not back off and maybe opt for 10 minutes on that
day to do something emoticon

I have a question about one of the team goals....Track your food and water 1 Time per day. When I go to "Other Goals" to mark it completed, it says "how much". What is that asking for? How much water? food? or how many times a day did I track?

Yes, I love aromatics and use a diffuser in the kitchen which I usually use citrus scents, wild orange, lemon, lemongrass and others. For evening I have three or four that are nice for relaxation. then use lavender to the soles of feet when I go to bed.

I always have such great aspirations of getting up and getting my exercise done with enthusiasm, however, it seems my biggest hurdle or obstacle is lack of sleep and sometimes sleep deprivation!

( Have been retired just over one year and went through menopause long ago)... I know many women say their sleep changed after menopause.
I do take one mild prescribed sleep aid... Any suggestions emoticon ...m emoticon ...tired too much!

Some "baby step" goals...

1. Track food, water and exercise consistently for X days.
2. Eat at least one fruit/vegetable serving for X days.
3. Create a "motivation" board on Pinterest. It sounds cheesy, but browsing your motivation board for a few minutes every day really does help!
4. Find a seated workout video on SparkPeople to try. I like the seated core, seated cardio, and seated arm work-out from Coach Nicole.
5. Blog daily, even if it's just three or four lines, about your day. Try to be positive.
6. If you can't be positive about yourself, find someone else's blog and be positive and supportive of them. The more you tell other people "you can do it!," the more you will believe it of yourself.
7. Get outside! Sit outside, in the sunlight for five minutes a day, doing nothing. Just absorb that vitamin D. It will make a huge difference for your depression!

That's all I can come up with now. I'll need this post for myself in a couple weeks when my motivation runs out... But hey, it's all part of the journey. Hang in there!

Getting motivated is one of my weak areas. No matter what my good intentions may be, I always seem to fall short. So I made a decision to start with the obvious.....
I use a handicap cart at the store and decided that I would walk in the store with a grocery basket instead of just automatically getting in one when I get there. If I get to hurting too much then I wheel myself to the front and get one. Most of the time I am almost finished and just go ahead and get to the check out and leave. Its little steps at first. Tackle one thing and then move on to another.....

JPPERSELL,

Are you actually losing 5 and 3 pounds? Those are some great losses!

I keep my motivation up by averaging my weight loss. The body does not work on a weight loss clock because it can retain water and all sorts of different things that aren't even calorie related. Unless you ate an extra 3600 calories, you did't really gain a fat pound.

Get a calendar and write your loss for each week on it. After 3 months, average it out. You get a much more accurate picture of pounds per week.

Staying motivated for me is maybe more simple than for everyone else. I used to weigh 460 and be bedridden in my room 24/7. I hated my life. I thought I was just waiting to die in my room. Now, I have somewhat of a life again and I am ever so grateful for every single ounce I lose.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.

JPPERSELL .....

For me this question really hits home. I was on SP for 5 years before I started losing weight. I would watch others loose and loose and I was sitting in the same place. Not gaining or losing. I would get so angry and down on myself, so very depressed about the whole situation. Then I switched tactics and tried another eating program and I just took off.

As per your question, I always loose a larger number on week one and then slow down on the following week or not loose anything at all. Something to do with the bodies adjustment to your new plan. I do know my weight WILL change from week to week, especially at first.
Be patient and use that time to educate yourself on your body and how it works. Much like you just did with this question. I have a personal journal that I use to post my foods, my weights, my measurements, amounts, times of day that I eat, what I eat, how much I eat......Then at the bottom of each page I make a circle and put my weight for the next day. That way I see what the calories and carb counts do to my weight. I did this for 6 weeks and found the foods that didn't cause weight gain and which ones did, how many calories I need to consume to get the weight moving. I had to learn MY OWN body and what it needed to help myself.

I hope this helps a little and I know Beth will be able to add another view other than my own......

My question for you all is how do you keep motivated when your weight fluctuates so much and it takes alot of time to lose? This is my problem. I can eat the same thing for a week and one week I will lose five pounds and the next three. I can't take it but I am not giving up.

Did you update your goal in SoarkPeople? It resets your calories etc. Every time you lose that much weight, every 10 pounds or so, you need to update your goal to reset your ranges.

Went and read Indygirl's story again for renewed inspiration!

I have lost 25lbs over the past 15 months, but my weight loss has been stalled for a couple of months now. I've been diligently tracking, and staying within range, but haven't been losing anything lately. Needless to say, it's frustrating.

Do you have any special recommendations, tricks, or steps you took to help yourself lose when you hit a plateau? I need to figure out something because I'm feeling that, "Why do all this work and not lose" level of frustration.

Thanks!

Yes NewSparkDebbie, the doctor told me all about the things needed to be done to help ease reflux and I'm using omeprazole, it's helped alot but nights were still worst couldn't stop coughing. Had to go to A & E to be sure nothing serious, they took history did ECG and chest x-ray, which were thankfully clear. Diagnosed bronchial asthma, it has flared up due to some infection so will take time to settle.
Last night had been better sleep wise as using an inhaler to help. So hopefully it will be better soon as I haven't exercised because of it.

Thank you NEWSPARKDEBBIE

Its possibly due to my diet change regarding GERD, and also I have been having ginger tea regularly to boost my immune system and help my acid reflux.

I dunno but I have a sore throat for the past 2.5 months and a slight increase in acid reflux or eating anything sour worsens it. My doc says as I am losing weight my immunity is low at the moment. Has anyone of you gone through something like this.

But i do love the sudden change in the scales, it brightened up my day despite the bad sore throat and GERD and also being clueless about how to rearrange my meals and snacks.

Mummy,
I will ask INDYGIRL to respond but it sounds to me like your metabolism has woken up and is making up for lost time. I would say that whatever plan you have been following is the winning plan for you. Are you eating rounded meals and within your calorie range?
I wouldn't worry myself sick about it, it just sounds like your body is moving for you......

When my daughter started having issues she was placed on a gluten free diet and yes, the weight came off quickly at first and then stabilized......

Hi everyone

I hope all of you are doing great. I am little worried, I seem to be losing weight quickly all of a sudden. like yesterday my weight was 93 kgs and now today it says 92.3 kgs. Its driving me mad, I tried my weight in a dozen different areas of my house and time of the day. Last week in the begginning weight was 94.7 kg in mid week 93.5 then on sunday 93 and now today it says 92.3kg......either something is seriously wrong with me or my scales need to be changed or I AM actually losing this much with the changes I made last week due to my GERD/Acid Reflux problem.
I dunno i am driving myself crazy. Please If you know something or anybody does let me know.

Thank you BOTH greatly for sharing with all of us! So much wonderful things to learn and practice!

Besides food, water and exercise, is there any other thing(s) you would suggest to a newbie?
