Hi! I'm Cathy. I'm back to SparkPeople to lose 40 pounds ... I'm down 16 of them! Woohoo!!! I started my journey in 2001 at 300 pounds. I'm so happy that now, when I do gain, I stop myself at 40 pounds. I'm working on stopping myself before I gain that much. I'm a work in progress!

So very glad to be here!

Hi! My name is Dena and I'm from Long Island, NY. I'm hoping this is my year to finally shed the last of my pregnancy weight ( from 3.5 years ago!) and be in the best shape I can...I've been on spark for awhile but things always seem to get in the way of my diet and fitness goals..

Hi just joined this team recently. I have been with spark People for almost four years ( this coming Feb.) I seem to keep losing and gaining the small 6 pounds over and over.. My Endrocrinolagist told me she would be happy if I could lose at least 5 pounds a year and keep losing, not regaining. Well, I see her in three weeks and I gained 1 pound since six months ago--but am hoping to lose more than five by this summer when my year is up. I have to get on a losing track here soon.

Hi! I am Kim. Currently over 360 lbs and needing to take my weight seriously. I have been on and off the wagon with little success to show for the baby steps I have taken during the years. I have never found that formula that worked for me. I have a lot of emotional baggage that holds me back and I keep trying to break free. I am getting better, just haven't gotten "there" yet. Never have had a lot of support in my life. Always overcoming obstacles. I just keep going whatever life throws at me.

I am always glad to be there for people. Give an encouraging word. Have heard great things about the people here and hope to gain the inspiration and support I desperately need.

Hi Jan and Ooni....I'm new here too and feel right at home! I hope you do as well and make use of the great tools available here. SP is a blessing...

I am So sorry for the losses both of you have had, and yes those things do put a halt to progress, often. I had gotten up to 3 miles a day, walking... and Meniere's hit on the left side, with hearing loss (more) extreme dizziness and loss of balance. I'm still sitting on the back burner after that...and had gained up to 242#.

Beni! Thanks for you kind note and I agree~ we will have a great 2013...and we ARE beautiful...right where we are!

I wish you all a blessed journey, healing, strength for each task and encouragement to emoticon even when you hit a wall!

Hi all and Hope you had a merry christmas :)
I've been with SP on and off for a couple of years but havent really got stuck deep in. I lost 2 stone with Slimming World 3 years ago, then had a bad fall at work which has resulted in being edically retired it also meant i went from walking 7 miles +5 days a week plus 3 hours gym to almost zero, i also, lost my mum and my dog and took up heavy duty pain killers..the result..the two stone came back emoticon
So as 2013 is just around the corner I have decided its time to stop dallying and get stuck in to getting my weight down for good ! I'm also aiming to quit smoking..yes i know two big things..but both need to go and will go and the eercise and eating well will aid the quit.
I live in a town called Gosport in Hampshire uk..i want to loose 30 -4olb and would love a buddy to journey along with.

Hello all and Merry Christmas. i have decided to give mysself a great and wonderful gift. The gift of life. I would like to live instead of being a spectator. I had lost 50 lbs a few years ago with SP but my mother passed away and I gave up on myself and life. That's been 3 1/2 years ago. I realize that eveyrone deals with grief in their own way, but I am tired of dealing with weight loss issues, too!! I am going to watch what I eat-at least practsice portion control for today, drink my water and try and get at least 10 mins of exercise in. I am looking for inspiration and accountability. I would be eternally grateful for anyone that could provide me with part of that!!

I'm Brenda...been on SP for several years but haven't gotten down to the nitty gritty of the "work" needed for my recovery. I am ready and willing to do that...now.

I turned 60 last week, have had diabetes (uncontrolled) for six years and am now in trouble. I am hoping (praying) I can reverse some damage, get these numbers down and make positive changes to carry me thru the rest of my days.. My Triglcerides were 1008 in March of this year...FBS over 200 for the past two months.

I am encouraged by some posts I've seen already and the great example Indygirl is to so many! I'm glad to be here, and so glad all of YOU are as well! emoticon

Hi all!! Another newbie here!! New to this team but not spark :) Always have success on spark but tend to have a wave of loss of motivation, then get discouraged and give up. I think the problem is I have not connected enough on here! So here I am and I hope that I will be able to encourage you as we face this journey together! My husband and I have lived all over, but spent the last 13 years in TX and are now in Bakersfield, CA! The Moving Blues have contributed to my latest weight gain, I had a good support/work out group back in TX and am now feeling pretty lonely. Some days are better than others :) Since being back Sparking again I have lost 5 lbs. Have about 40 left to go.
One thing I have to share... I was starting to feel "blah", then I got on the spark message boards and voila! Motivation! I jumped on my elliptical and got the rest of my calories burned for the week! And just in the nick of time too! emoticon

CHERIE, you are an inspiration with all your progress. It's not nothing to sneeze at either. You have come a long way. YES IndyGirl is very inspiring, if she is still doing it and progressing, YOU CAN TOO! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I tell myself that daily.

Hi--I'm Cherie. I've been on SparkPeople since last April and have been inspired by Indygirl's progress since then. I also have mobility problems and was ready to go into a motorized chair in March. Then I had an epiphany and decided that I was not going to give up and do that. I knew if I went into a chair, I'd lose what ability to walk that I did have. At that time I could only walk about 10 feet with my cane and needed my husband's help even to do that. Since then, I've continued to lose weight, but more important, I've begun physical therapy and now can walk 230 feet without my cane. 530 feet without having to stop to sit and rest! My therapist is very happy with my progress and so am I. I'm able to drive again, after more than a year of not being able to. So for Christmas, my husband is buying me a new car. There are only a few that I can get in and out of easily, so it's not easy to go car shopping. But WHAT A PROBLEM TO HAVE!!! Bit by bit, I'm regaining my independence. And I owe it to the inspiration I find on SP, and in no small part to Indygirl herself. I kept thinking "if she can do it from where she started, then so can I." Thanks for being such a great inspiration. It keeps me going. I just didn't realize until this week that there was an Indygirl TEAM. But I've been on her team in my mind for months.

Hi Fancyfree15,

some of the things that I do to help me is that I have done some of the callenges that are on the site I liked the stress busters challenge and the other one that I joined was the 10 minute exercise challenge. Some things that I do to try to keep myself motivated is I read some of the motivational articles that are on the site. One of the things that I did that was very helpful for me is I joined the 100 Day weight loss challenge by Linda Spangle she has worked with people that struggle with weight and has a great program to look at issues that may be hindering your weight loss you would google her name and go to the weight loss joy web sight and there is a journal that you print out and every day there is an exercise that you work on there is the book 100 day weight loss book that you read every day and that goes along with the exercises and there is a very helpful book that you can go along with the challenge that is a support book called Life is Hard Food is Easy has been so helpful for me because I do alot of emotional stress eating and these books really help you recognise these issues and help you to find tools to work threw them I highly recommend this to anybody who struggles. Stay connected to your teams and make friends on SP. I have found that the encouragement that I have received from people on this sight have gotten me where I am now.

Something has to change... but I'm not sure what. I've been with Sparkpeople for years - on and off. I keep coming back. But I have gained - 55 lbs. over the past 17 yrs. A lot of it was the stress of working full-time as a police officer while working part-time as a paramedic. Eating on the run, sleeping in snatches, driving back and forth 45 miles between the town where I worked and the farm where my husband and sons live, while still doing all the housework, cooking (I worked night shift) and making it to all my sons school events. My husband devoted HIS life to working on the farm, which didn't include housework, yardwork, or raising kids. So the frustrations of marriage didn't help either. All my family live over 1,000 miles away.
Fast forward to now- high cholesterol, high fasting-glucose levels, weigh in at 205 lbs. on my 5'7" frame, limping due to the knee injury that put an end to both careers and which surgery couldn't fix. Now no health insurance. Chronic foot pain for the past month which I treat with Ibuprofen and ice.
Ok, there are a lot of great things in my life, too! A new part-time job that I love and that allows me to travel and meet new people, more time with my (now 4) horses for training and riding - my passion. Time to help on the farm - which I've always loved far more than housework!
But the weight just doesn't come off. I eat too much. I'm often tired. Exercise programs seem like wasted time that I could use to get some real work done. And there is always plenty fo that! On top of all that, I have always had ADD and I just don't know where to start. I did join Sparkcoach and I like their on-line program but when I've written for help, the feedback I've gotten has been so vague that it's almost irrelevant.
Please, someone, point me in the right direction and give me a kick in the butt to get me started! Without change, my doctor told me last year that I WILL develop diabetes in the next 10 years. I don't want that!

I am a returning SP. Last January I started WW and did very well...lost 40 pounds. Then in the fall I thought I could do it by myself and managed to gain back 20 pounds. So now I am back at SparkPeople. I am discouraged and feeling overwhelmed. Will I ever be able to just live my life without worries of being overweight? When I lost the 40 pounds, I still had another 40 to go so I am back to needing to lose 60 pounds. I look forward to getting to know all of you. I need your inspiration and hope to offer some of my own. I am so glad that I found this group. Nancy

New to this team. Have been with Sparkpeople since June 2012. I have been looking for a group that I could relate to, and now I think I have found it.
Name is Bronwyn, and I am from South Africa. Boredom is my worst enemy, because then I just want to eat and eat.
I need to find the oomph and passion to loose the unwanted weight and get healthy again.

New to this team but not SP. I joined SP May 2011 and lost 40 pounds I started at 253 down to 213 as of one year ago. I had to turn off my internet due to money issues. When I rejoined SP this April I choose to make a whole new profile. Since May I have gained 17 pounds. I've been, "lost", stressed and aggravated most of the last year. My father passed away last December. Since that time I have been going back and forth between my mom's house to help her out, my sister's-helping with the kids, and my own home. My new rule is always have a suit case packed. I am disabled with MS. I joined this team to find my passion again.

Hi Chrissy,
Sounds like the doctors are keeping an eye on everything, that's good. I know where I live it's not sunny and bright so they said its common for D levels to drop quickly, maybe the same for you?
Well, get over you pneumonia and get healthy! It's the holidays!! Feel better soon!

Hi Beni and thank you. yes I too was on 50000 weekly for 3 months. my original blood test had my levels below 10. my levels went up with the treatment but as soon as they dropped me to 2000 daily my numbers dropped again in 3 weeks. so now I am on 10000 daily until I get over the pneumonia fully and then I think they will try me at 5000 daily. well see, lol. glad to hear you are doing better with your treatment.

Hi Chrissy, well welcome back! You've made a good choice to take care of yourself. I know what you mean about many of your issues, so many of us have them too. I had terrible low vitamin D, my doctor put me on 50,000 units. Yes! 50,000. It brought it up to where I now take 2,000 a day and am doing better. Getting weight off will certainly help all of us with joint, arthritis, accident issues, etc. that's for sure. (In 1976 I went through the windshield of a VW from a drunk driver) It's a good time to take care of ourselves and get healthier!
I'm sorry for your loss of your nephew, how devastating.
I look forward to this journey with you, getting to know you and to be healthier and stronger people!
Again, welcome!
Beni

Hi all. I m actually a returning newbie. have been on and off sp for a few years now. I am 41 years old and work with special needs and geriatrics. I suffer from many auto immune related issues and progressive arthritis and degenerative disk. I previously lost 70-80 lbs about 4 years back. but its been a bad year and I gained about 15-20 lbs back. during the summer I had 2 minor car accidents that severely aggravated my already present spinal damage and putting me out of the gym and pool. shortly after I got bronchitis which even with antibiotic treatment turned into double pneumonia which I am still battling. I have a bad vit d deficiency which im sure affects this even more. then 2 weeks ago one of my nephews was shot and murdered while being robbed. needless to say my time home in nj for that was not full of anything healthy. hoping that now that i am home again i can get healthy and back on track. really looking forward to getting back to pool and gym if i can get my lungs cleared up soon.

Hello all !

My name's Alison and I live in WA state, born and raised here. I have dropped 217 lbs so far over a period of years. It's gone very slowly because until I joined Sparkpeople I didn't know how to do this healthfully and my tools were limited.

Now I'm doing much better and I'm happy to say I'm back on track after being gone for almost a year. I'm never being absent again.

Hugs to all that want or need them !
Alison

Hi,
I'm Sandra from Indianapolis. I tried Spark People a couple years ago, but could only commit for a month or so. This time around, everything is "clicking" and with God's grace, changes ARE happening for the better. :) My goal is to improve my health most of all, and that includes weight loss, lowering my cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and being a more active person.

I loved mixed-media art, especially collage. I also scrapbook (traditionally and digitally). I do freelance graphic art from time to time as well. Art is my form of prayer, relaxation, and therapy. I sometimes do art for others to encourage them spiritually or with problems they may be going through.

I hope to start attending the Indy rallies. Beth is a major inspiration...even back in 2010 when I was tracking her journey. Warm hugs and prayers for complete healing and recovery.
