Wonderful and creative. Of course if my wife did what you did ...I would be broke. Lol!!

Our local mall has an actual walking group in the mornings before the stores open up. You might want to see if your local mall does to. Very similar to your current program, just a nice change of venue.

Take a look at the couch to 5k program. You may be surprised just what your body can do.

I was running 8 miles when I weighed 320lbs because of the couch to 5k program. My doctor did not believe me until I made him go for a run with me.

How very motivating! Thank you. I really needed that. My workouts consist of walking around Wal-Mart Super Center. That store is huge, but has some a/c and The aisles are endless so in and out and up and down I go. At this point, walking is about all I can handle. Gotta start somewhere. I'm just doing as much as I can for now. When that gets easier, I'll add more. I think I'm walking about 1-2 miles three or four times a week.

Again, thanks for your motivating comments.

Dawn

Dawn,
What a wonderful and honest intro. Wow! You are a trooper! You have accomplished a lot and dealt with some serious adversity. YOU ROCK!!!

My best advice to to track EVERYTHING you eat, track every step, every glass of water, everything....you the site as much as possible and take a moment each day to read an article or two.

Sounds to me like your body is adapting to the workouts you are doing, so you are notnseeing as strong of results because of that. The human body is an amazingly adaptive mechanism. Sounds cool, but it means we have to keep pushing it's limits if we want to see improvement.

Ex: when I first started with the spark. I could not walk up one flight of stairs without being winded. To walk 5 would be ridiculous, "that is what elevators are for". I joined spark and started rinsing my bike, ALOT.

Six months later the elevators at my work were out! People were literally not going to work because of this. But I decided I was going to try. So I started up the stairs. Up and up and up I went. It was crazy hard, but in a good way. I made it to my floor breathless, sweating, and tired. But I made it!!! By the way...I work on the 17th floor!

Point is, try to push past your comfort zone, you may be surprised at just how strong you are

Hi Dawn!
It took me a bit to find you again. I have got to learn more about this site! How are you doing so far? This is my first real day so it went ok. I have to do something about myself and I really need to stay motivated. Are you looking for an exercise buddy?? How do we do that?? Ideas?

BTW, where are you from? I am in Massachusetts. Hot one here today, but thankfully I have ac. So my walking today was on the tread mill. Guess that is better than nothing!

Let me know what you think! Thanks for responding!

Carol,

That would be great! I know what you mean about needing time to get acclimated. I'm loving everything about this site. Would love a workout buddy. Email me when you get a chance. I'll be looking forward to it. By the way 56 is not old. I'm 47, but I get where you're coming from. I feel old. Ha Ha :-)

Hi Dawn,
I just joined also and would love a buddy! I am old.. 56.. and have a lot to lose myself. Too much stress and an 'empty nest' has really done me in! I have to run now but I will write more later. I am trying to get acclimated to the site and I am a bit lost! Hope I can find you again!
Have a good one and I will check in with you later today.

Good morning fellow sparks.

I joined sparkpeople.com three days ago. There is a lot of information on this site and it's by far one of the best. Never seen so many people trying to get healthy in one place before. First thing that came to mind was "at last, people who get me." That's huge for me because I'm introverted and this year has been a devastating year all the way around, yet here I am trying to ignore that and move forward with life in a positive way and to lose weight too. I have a LOT to lose.

I started the week under my upper range of caloric intake. Yay! The next day I went over but it was only 67 calories. Yesterday, day three, was awful. I went over by just under 300 calories. However, today is a new day and I will persevere. One day at a time I guess, huh?!

Working from home temporarily while I try to find full time work. Am under a lot of stress because since April of 2010 I've been dealing with my father's disabilities and eventual paralysis to this April when my boss retired without warning. Since April 1st I've had seven losses of close friends and family and my 18 yr old dog. It feels like there's no end to these sad feelings. It's just been a weird couple of years.

I could use a weight loss buddy. I'm chatty. I can't seem to make myself exercise, though I do like exercising once I get started. I'm huge and I have Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis so I really do need to exercise regularly. I lost 27 lbs over the winter and am thrilled to be below 300 lbs, but can't seem to really budge much below that. I would really like to be under 250 by Christmas. I think that's possible, but I want to do it in a healthy way. I would love a buddy that's encouraging and in my weight range or that has been there!

Well, I tend to ramble so I'll reign myself in till y'all get to know me. Thanks for your time. Nice meeting you!

Dawn
