Hi. My name's Aileen. I'm a SAHM in central Maine to two sweet little boys. I was a creative writing major in college (poetry), but that has definitely taken a backseat to my kids and my health these past three years. But I still love to read, and I continue to write whenever my brain settles down long enough! I've been Sparking since October of 2009.
I started my journey here shortly after my first son turned one. I went to my doctor to see if I had some sort of imbalance or thyroid problem that was making me gain weight, and he recommended that I go talk to a dietitian. Because (and I realize this now) I obviously had NO idea what a balanced/healthy diet looked like at that point.
So, October 5th, I went to see her for the first time, and she offhandedly recommended SparkPeople to me. I checked it out a few days later, and I can say very sincerely that life began anew for me that day.
I had never truly believed I could lose the weight I had put on. I used to fantasize about it constantly, but I never really made an effort. But somehow, in those first few hours of browsing Spark, I knew that I could do it.
In 6 months, I lost all the weight I had set out to and more. From 207 pounds to 139! It was crazy in a very good way. And then, to make things even crazier, I got pregnant in April with our second child.
Pregnancy went really well. I didn't eat or exercise perfectly, but that's okay. My second son, Gideon, was born at home in January, and it was awesome! A very different experience from my first.
Because of that, I've been able to get back to exercise and activity much sooner - working on training for a 5k right now. I'm looking forward to getting to know all you mamas and to hear about your kids and the babies that are on the way!
This was such a great idea for a team.
